The current research assignment is based on the topic of the impact of sexual unfairness on
performance of employees in Sainsbury for which a primary along with secondary form of
research is undertaken. The aim of current research project is to get better understanding about
the sexual biasness at workplace along with evaluation of concept of cultural diversity. For
conducting primary investigation adoption of qualitative form of research is made along with
other appropriate methodology where data is gathered through the use of a qualitative
questionnaire. Further, the secondary research is based on online articles and journals that form a
part literature review to develop better understanding about current research topic and its
objectives. Finally proper interpretation of data along with research findings and

Cultural diversity is vital concept which requires enough focus and concentration of
management of organisation over it. Every company and its workforce are attached to its
surroundings and backgrounds they are not existing in a vacuum they are present in their
respective socio-culture and cultures (Al-Jenaibi, 2017). For the company to be relevant and
matching with its surroundings and competitive environment which is aggressively increasing it
has to hire employees or workforces who represents the demographics of the particular area. The
current research project is developed on Sainsbury a British second largest supermarket store
which was founded in 1865 by John James Sainsbury and headquartered in London, UK. In the
research the impacts of gender discrimination on employee performances is studies along with
identifying the overall impact on the organisational performances as well.
1.2) Research aim and objectives
Research aim
The main aim behind conducting current research is work is, “To determine impact of the
gender discrimination on employee’s performance.” A study on Sainsbury, 835 high Rd. North
Finchley, N129ER, London, United Kingdom.

evaluation and analysis of the benefits, challenges and impacts of cultural diversity along with
suggesting ways to promote it in the workplace. Benefiting the research findings and
contributing towards knowledge and skills to improve performances and productivity by
promoting cultural diversity in the organisational culture.

individuals belonging to different ages, races, genders, sexual orientation, religions, ethnicities,
socio-economic status, nationalities and many other. Diversity in workplace is beneficial and
effective as people form separate regions, comes with different backgrounds and experiences
rendering unique and new perspectives. These new and creative perspectives allows the
workplace to think differently for problems contributing in innovative results and solutions to
them (Alexandra Beauregard and et. al., 2018).
Cultural diversity brings strengths to the workplace for which it is essential that it is
valued in corporate philosophy. Celebrating diversity at workplace is a long and hectic task
which requires commitment of people towards it, workers or employees has to be open-minded
and non-judgemental for truly understanding and gaining knowledge about diversity and its
impact on the organisation and on the environment in company.
Cultural diversity is beneficial for company and overall performance as when it works
properly and practised appropriately it enhances the productivity of workplace and which results

in higher profits and earning. According to several study conducted it has been identified that
employees who feel more comfortable and accepted in workplace who are included in it properly
take 75% less sick days than others who felt that they do not belong in it.
Cultural diversity is a concept which is most focused and evaluated today by all the
human resource professionals and other managerial and directorial members of company.
Practising cultural diversity bring benefits for the businesses as discussed above, fresh talents is
introduced with great enthusiasm brings better changes and development in the functions,

strategic of the firm which will add value to it over its competitors and rivals. The success of the
organisation depends upon its labour-force and personnels as they are the one who carry out all
the operations and face the practical situations on behalf of the organisation. There are several
factors related to workforce diversity which impacts the performance and effectiveness of
employees in Sainsbury (Noon, 2018).
Cultural diversity includes various elements which can influence the performance of staff
and their abilities. The first benefit or influence of diversified workforce is unique ways of
working on the operations and tasks assigned to team. Every individual is different and
employees learn form one another by their experiences and their competencies. A healthy
competition is developed between teams and subordinates which pushes them to work with their
utmost potentials and push their boundaries to out perform themselves.
The effective working condition, positive work surroundings and healthy relationships of
employees and interrelationships of teams allow them to produce the best results for the

Employers are well aware about the importance, benefits and need of their company to
have culturally diversified workforce still they do not take any firm steps for doing so and
promoting it in the organisation (Syed, 2020). The problems which are faced by Sainsbury due to
it is conflicting working styles amongst teams and other members. People have different styles of
work and their attitude differs towards work that are reflecting upon their cultures, values and
compounding differences. These approaches can harm the business and productivity if not
properly recognized and accounted by the employer.

serve numerous clients and consumers through retail stores and online orders and deliveries.

First ways is to educate the leaders and senior management about the importance and
needs of diversity in company. Their has to be a balance in the workforce it should not be

matter in relations with the cultural biasses and discrimination.
 Research design- It refers to the formate and structure adopted by the researcher for
conducting the research in the most effective and efficient manner. There are three types
of research design, descriptive, exploratory and explanatory. For this research project
descriptive design is used in relevance to primary research and tools (Kulkarni, Boehm
and Basu, 2016). The descriptive approach will enable the investigator to conduct in
depth and thorough research assisting in making conclusion on the study by considering
every similar and related aspects of business.
 Data collection- The data collection methods are used for gathering ample amount of
data form the internal and external sources which are most relevant to the study topic and
which needs to be evaluated by the researcher for making appropriate findings and
analysis. Basically, there are two main sources from where data could be collected and
obtain by a researcher which comprises of primary and secondary sources. Use of both
primary and secondary sources are made for current research as secondary leads to
support fir findings with the help of past facts and literature where as primary leads to a
first hand and authentic form of data.
 Research instruments and tools- This segment is referring to data collection methods as
they plays a vital role in the whole research study. Their are specifically two ways of data
collection primary and secondary. One already exist in the market and another is
extracted by the investigator. For primary data collection open-ended questionnaires are
used and for secondary online articles, books, newspapers and other tools are used.

Theme 1: Concept of sexual Biasness at workplace of an organisation
Interpretation
With respect to the opinion of maximum number of respondents that concept of gender
discrimination is mainly associated with the biasness prevailed at workplace which denies
equal privilege and opportunity for individuals on the basis of their gender. It has been
interpreted that circumstance and situation in which people are treated in a different way
because of their gender and face issues like sexual harassment, disparate treatments and other
forms of biasness and favouritism is associated with the concept of sexual Biasness at place of
work.
Theme 2: The possible negative consequences associated with concept of sexual Biasness at
place of work of a company
Interpretation
During current investigation, it has been interpreted that 15 participants from a total of 30 had
favoured that enhancement in cases of sexual harassment and other miss treatment is the
biggest negative consequence associated with concept of sexual Biasness at place of work of a
company while 10 other were also favoured that enhancement in stress level and depression
among females is also a negative consequence of gender discrimination. Apart from all these,
it has been also observed that 5 participants were having a feeling that reduction in morale and
confidence level of employees is also associated with concept of sexual Biasness at place of
work of a company.

Interpretation
It has been analysed that major section of respondents has supported that the existence of
sexual Biasness at place of work have vital impact on employee’s performance in Sainsbury as
it lead to many issues and challenges as workplace that affect and hamper the performance of
employees at Sainsbury. It has been observed that existence of sexual Biasness at place of

work leads to a negative impact on performance of employees of Sainsbury as it reduce their
motivation level and lead to a feeling of stress and dissatisfaction which hampers and
negatively impact their performance.

Maximum number of participants of current investigation were having an implication that the
concept of cultural diversity at place where work of an organisation is associated with the
presence of employees and workforce who belongs to different culture along with varied
background at the workplace. Thus, it could be interpreted that the impression of cultural
diversity is mainly associated with leading a flexible and fair recruitment process to employees
individuals from diversified culture to build and lead cultural diversity at place of work.
Theme 5: Reasons that has made it essential and vital for Sainsbury to have effective
management of cultural diversity at its workplace

It has been interpreted that there are various reasons that had made accomplishment and
adoption of cultural diversity more vital and essential for Sainsbury as 10 participants were
having a view point that a diverse workforces lead to better expansion opportunity through
enhancing the scope for target customers where as other 11 were in favour of enhanced skills
and competencies level of workforces as it consists of employees from diversified background.
Apart From this, the left out 9 participants were having a thinking that cultural diversity act as
vital tool to lead better motivation and satisfaction level in employees through ensuring equal
job opportunity for all individuals.

Major portion of participants were having a view point that a optimistic and positive impact is
created and associated by cultural diversity on performance of employees in Sainsbury as it is a
concept that ensures better motivation and satisfaction level in employees through leading

also lead to improvement in overall skills and competencies of employees through leading their

that cultural barriers and communication issues are the biggest challenges which are faced by

communicate and coordinate with the employees who belongs to different cultural and
background. Further, challenges and issues are also faced by Sainsbury in estimating and
fulfilling the complex needs and expectation of culturally diversified workforce.

It could have been interpreted from current research project that a lot of ways are there that

leading and adopting a unbiased HR practises and recruitment process is an effective way to
lade better management of cultural diversity. Besides this, some respondents were also having
a view point that implication and adoption of effective communication channel along with
regular cultural diversity are also the effective ways to overcome the issues and challenges
associated with the management of cultural diversity.

managers and leaders of Sainsbury in leading a discrimination free environment along with
ensuring better management of cultural diversity at its workplace as managers and leaders
plays a vital role in directing and guiding the employees for better procurement of cultural
diversity along with motivating workforces and employees for leading reduction in
discrimination at workplace. Thus, it can be interpreted that managers and leaders of Sainsbury
plays a vital role in managing cultural diversity and reducing discrimination through leading
effective direction and motivation for its employees.

An evaluation can be made from the findings of current investigation that 12 participants were
supported that leading education in employees about gender discrimination is a vital step that
could be adopted by Sainsbury for removing gender discrimination issues from its workplace
where as 8 participants were also favoured review of salaries and leading standardize pay for
both male and female employees to lead reduction in issues of gender discrimination. Beside
this, the remaining 10 employees had also favoured clear and transparent polices and strategies
by the means of participative management for removing gender discrimination issues from the
workplace of Sainsbury.

6.1) Conclusion
On the basis of current investigation a conclusion can be made that the concept of gender
discrimination is associated with biasness prevailed at workplace that lead to many negative
consequences like enhanced chances of sexual harassment, creation of environment of stress and
depression at workplace that lead to a reduction in the morale and confidence level of employees.

employees as it ensures a more fair job opportunity for all employees. Beside this, a conclusion
can also be made that cultural diversity boost the morale and satisfaction level of and create a
positive and healthy workplaces environment where all employees are treated equally
irrespective of their background or culture. But issues like cultural and communication barriers
are also associated with Creation of cultural diversity at workplace. At last, a conclusion can be
drawn that adopting a fair and unbiased HR practises and recruitment process is an effective way
to lead better management of cultural diversity. Further, it has been also summarised that,
adoption of participative management and effective communication along with standardised pay
are effective way for an organisation to overcome the issues of gender discrimination at its
workplace.
6.2) Recommendation
It has been reflected from the findings current project that gender discrimination is a big
issues for an organisation that has negative impact on the performance of its employees. Thus,
following recommendation are made for Sainsbury to overcome the issues of Gender
discrimination and biasness from its workplace:
 Leading effective education in employees about the concept of gender discrimination is
an effective way along with standardisation of pay to overcome the issues of Gender
discrimination and biasness from workplace of Sainsbury. Effective education lead to
better awareness in employees abut concept of gender discrimination and its negative
consequence which motivates employees to have reduction in such biasness. Implication
of review of salaries and leading standardize pay for both male and female ensures higher
level of equality and fairness at workplace of for Sainsbury to overcome the issues of
Gender discrimination and biasness.
 Adoption of participative management style is also recommended for Sainsbury as it
ensures more transparent decision making and clarity in policies to have reduction in the
chances of gender discrimination. Furthers, participative management also ensures more
effective communication and bonding at workplace that is vital to lead a positive and

Chapter 7: Reflection & Recommendation of alternative research
methodology
My experience from the research study and investigation conducted is amazing, activities
performed for driving to appropriate conclusion rendered me better understanding about cultural
diversity aspect. I gained knowledge about the importance, needs, benefits and challenges of
cultural diversity and how gender discrimination can be removed. Moreover, from the research I
developed understanding about the ways, methods and measures for ensuring diversification in
workforce. Moving further, with the research and investigation I also developed better
knowledge and idea about several research options and ways available for conducting potential
study and developing efficient outcomes. For this research study I have used Qualitative research
method for gathering positive results with appropriate theoretical models and tools presenting
accurate facts about the topic. Moreover, in addition with qualitative research I have also used
Primary and Secondary data collection process as well. Both the sources were helpful for me
enabling me to collect enough information is required. For primary source is made use of open
ended questionnaire which was developed with the support of secondary research that was
conducted through online sources, third party review and others. The primary data collection
method that is the questionnaire supported me in my study and gathering knowledge about the
cultural diversity in the company and workplace along with thorough information about the
gender discrimination practices. All these research tool and frameworks as well as in depth
analysis enabled me to achieve the goals and objectives of the assignment which were pre-
determined by me in the very beginning of the investigation. The alternative research method
which I will also be using in future for conducting study in quantitative. This research approach
is easy to present and enable to perform a more detailed and deep study in little time.
