CRITICAL REFLECTION
RATIONALE
The issue on the basis of which research is conducted is increasing employee turnover in the
recent past specially in Hospitality Industry. Reason for conducting research is that Shangri-La
Hotel is also facing the same problem in the hotel (Kumar, 2019). This research will help the
hotel in understanding the factor which is prompting the same. The reason for conducting the
research now is that there is a good trend of changes in the Hotel and it is very necessary for
every organization in industry to keep employee at their side.
SIGNIFICANCE
The biggest significance behind conducting the research is that it has helped the scholar in
understanding how the research is conducted and also can use the knowledge in conducting
different research. This research will help Shangri-La Hotel in overcoming the issue faced by the
organization and also this research will help the competitor in getting some sort of the basis on

hospitality industry and retail industry are the two industry which has seen that the number of
employee leaving organization are increasing at rapid rate. The reason behind the same is the
level of satisfaction employee is enjoying in the organization (Flick, 2015). This report will help
Shangri-La Hotel in understanding importance of employee retention in the organization and
also will help the company in understanding the factor which increase employee turnover in the
organization and also will provide with the best way through employee retention and motivation
can be improved in the organization.

As per the view point of Aruna, and Anitha, (2015 )employee are the key element in the success
of the hotel as employee are the one who used to carry out all the operation of the business. It is
very important for all the hotel to retain employee in the hotel as it provides variety of the
benefit. …Anitha, (2016) highlights that employee retention help the company in saving the cost
of the company. As hotel require to invest a huge amount of money at the time of recruiting new
employee and giving training to the employee in the hotel. Time is the another thing which is
saved by the hotel due to employee as recruiting new employee always require a time. Anitha,
(2016) is having the opinion that employee retention help the hotel in implementing the policy in
better way in the Hotel as the employee who are their with the organization for longer period of
time always build the bonding with the organization and are ready to adopt the change.

Employee turnover is the situation when employee of the organization used to leave the

comfortable to work and hence if the working environment of the organization is not that good

as incentive and extra wages for extraordinary work perform by employee. Kossivi, and
Kalgora, (2016) highlights that training and development on regular time interval also help the
Hotel in retaining the employee in the organization. As training used help the organization in
passing on the message to the employee that they care about the organization. Training also help
the employee in developing the skill set.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research type: In the field of the research qualitative and quantitative are two type of the
research type which is used by the researcher to carry out the research. Scholar will be using
Qualitative research type in this research as it will be difficult to carry out the outcome of the
research in the Quantitative way.
Research Philosophy: Their are two type of research philosophy which is used by the researcher
that is Interpretivism and Positivism. Scholar will be taking the help of Interpretivism philosophy
in this research as this philosophy used to support well for the type of research selected by the
researcher. Also it will help the scholar in understanding the Human interest also.
Research Approach: Researcher are having the two option of Research approach namely
Inductive and deductive. Scholar will be taking help of Inductive approach to find out the factor
which drives employee retention and motivation in the organization. As this approach is well
suited for the type of the research type selected by the organization.
Data Collection: Their are two type of data collection tool which can be used by the scholar
namely secondary and primary tool. Secondary data will be collected by the help of reviewing
the different books and journal related to the research topic. Primary data will be collected with

Shangri-La Hotel.
Sampling: Sampling is the method in which number of respondent are selected by the
organization for conducting the survey on the respondent. 20 manager of Shangri-La Hotel will
be selected as a sampling for the Hotel.
Data Analysis: Scholar will be taking the help of thematic tool to analyse the data which has
been collected with the help of the primary and secondary tool. Scholar will be presenting the
data in the form of different graph and pie.
LIMITATION AND RECOMMENDATION
The biggest limitation for the research was that the time period which was allotted to complete
the research was not enough but with the help of my colleague and team member scholar was
able to complete the same on time. Another limitation was that their were limited source to
gather the information for the purpose of conducting the research but with the help of analysing
skill scholar was able to get the best information available in the market.
After going through research it has been recommend that Hotel should motivate the employee by
giving good working environment and rewards to the employee so that they are not tempt to
leave the organization.
