Political Science Research Project: Current Events Analysis and Review

This research project analyzes five current events from various media sources, including a political cartoon on Brexit, two newspaper stories (one on Canadian homicides and another on a nurse's ethical issues), a magazine article about gun control in Canada, and an Amazon press release. Each item is analyzed to identify the main issues, key stakeholders, and the unfolding of events. The project also identifies relevant political science concepts and key terms, providing a brief analysis of each article using these concepts. The student examines the impact of these events on society, the perspectives presented, and potential biases. The project provides a comprehensive overview of current affairs, linking them to course material and demonstrating an understanding of the events' significance.

Main issue: In the political cartoon, the cartoonist has indicated about the issues of “Brexit”
in United Kingdom ("Editorial Cartoons on Brexit", 2019). The issues of the problem have
been prolonging in the country.
The Government of UK is involved in the problem. The event unfolded due to the conflict
between UK and the European Union.
The event took place because of the difference in the opinions among the leaders of the
Government of UK and the leaders of the European Union.
The public of the country is still not supportive for the Government. This is also resulting in
number of protests around the country which is a big concern.

Concepts or key terms: The key term that has been used in this cartoon is Brexit. This forms
the concept of political issues that are prevalent in the terms of the conflicts regarding the
decision from the Government of UK.
In the cartoon, the cartoonist has not biased any kind of information.
The perspectives of the cartoonist have been on creating humour based on the issues of Brexit
that has been prevalent in the country.
The cartoonist has drawn the image of a flight and indicated that the Government of UK is
ready to exit from the European Union as soon as possible.
The only missing thing in the cartoon is the expression of the people of the UK on the
decision. The article only presented an idea on the scenario.

Main issue: In the 9th article of the newspaper, author has raised the concern about the
increasing number of homicides in Canada.
The Government of Canada and the accused of homicides are involved in this article.
In the recent years, there has been case of 90 homicides in Toronto which is a shocking
numbers compared to previous years ("CTV National News: Top 10 news stories of 2018",
2019).
The events took place due to increase of hatred among the people and lack of proper law of
gun control.
These incidents have brought in fear among the people of Canada since the last few years.
Key concepts: In this article, the author has briefly mentioned the problems of homicide that
have been prevalent in the country.
There has been no bias in the article and the author has aptly provided the fact with recent
data. In this article, the perspective of the author is based on the growing problems for the
Government to tackle these issues. The perspectives of the local people on this incident are
missing. This article only provides an opinion on the growing issue.

Analysis: In this newspaper article, the author has cited the recent incident when one of the
nurses of Moncton allegedly misused the labour-inducing drug on two women. She was
immediately suspended after the completion of investigation on her mistake ("Moncton nurse
accused of misuse of labour-inducing drug sees licence suspended | CBC News", 2019). The
nurse and the healthcare organization are the main people involved in this article.
This event unfolded when the nurse used the labour inducing drugs on the two women.
This event occurred due to lack of ethical sense of the accused nurse.
This incident raised the questions about the ethical conducts of the nurses.
Key concepts: Author of this newspaper article has made use of the concepts of ethical issues
in the nursing department of the healthcare organizations of Canada. Along with this, the
consequences of the unethical behaviour have been also provided through this newspaper
article. Author of this article has justified by providing the perspectives of the stakeholders
associated with this news on this incident.
Bias has not been done through this article and the article justified its usefulness by showing
the process by which the investigation has been conducted.
Every details have been provided in this article.
Through this article, the author has shown the problems in ethics of nursing in Canada and
the incident showed the legal issues that the nurses go through due to the misuse of the
license.
The author has just provided an opinion on the issue.

Analysis: In this article, the author has indicated the recent incident of terrorists attack in
New Zealand and how the Government of the country has acted on gun control law
immediately after the incident. The Government of New Zealand and Canada are the main
bodies which are involved.

Author has also indicated that the gun control law has been strict in Canada for a long period
of time and due to this, the recent practice of the law by New Zealand is not going to make
any impact on the law of the country (Gurney, 2019).
The incidents took place due to the safety concerns that occurred in New Zealand due to the
terrorist attack.
The incidents made the people of Canada aware about the importance of having proper gun
law.
Key concept: The main concept that has been used by the author in this article is about the
gun control law. This is in a vision to eliminate the risks of terrorists attack in Canada. The
incident of New Zealand has been shown as the evidence in which the Government has taken
the major step to control the situation and limit the use of guns for the people living in the
country.
There has been bias in the article as the author has been supportive for the Government of
Canada and is confident on the law rather than appreciating the efforts of the Government of
New Zealand, rather than learning from that of New Zealand.
The perspective of the author has been based on perspectives of the people of Canada.
Thus, the author has also debated an idea.

Analysis: In the press release of Amazon, it indicated the facility for the prime members that
they would receive in the 13 new cities of Canada. In this aspect, the feature for the prime
members will be one day delivery to the products. With the addition of the 13 new cities in
Canada, the total number of cities that will be able to avail this service is 19 ("Amazon
Canada Announces Prime FREE One-Day Delivery Expansion to 13 New Cities and Towns
across Canada | Amazon.com, Inc. - Press Room", 2019).
Amazon is the main stakeholder involved.
This incident unfolded at the press release.

5RESEARCH PROJECT
This occurred due to the focus of the company on growing the number of prime customers.
This event will eventually benefit the customers of the 19 cities in Canada.
Key concepts: The key concept of this press blog is to show the features of the company that
the people of the 19 cities of Canada will be able to make use of. The press release also cited
the quotation of the manager of the company on the services that the customers will be able
to receive with the new planning. This press release can be highly effective for the company
as this will help in extending the business and the facility of Amazon Prime will become
more popular in the near future.
There have been no biases in the press release and it solely announced the new features of the
company and the benefits that the customers would get from those.
The perspective of the author is based on the benefits that the customers would receive from
the idea.
This article only provided an idea.
