LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature Review is the opinions and take upon various authors and writers upon a particular
topic. In Literature Review different opinions and suggestions get collected to form an
understanding about the topic. These reviews help in creating a deeper understanding of topic as
there are a lot of different reviews and opinions presented with regard to a single topic only.
To understand the benefits of talent management for organization.
According to Nayak, (2018), the talent management provides ample of benefits to an
organization. The talent management strategies help an organization in retaining its employees in
workplace. Retaining the present employee in company is much cheaper then hiring a whole new
employee for the same job. It becomes a cost issue for a company when it hires a new employee
for itself and then invest in him for productivity because the new employee would be giving
productivity after few months of joining, so till then the company has to do compromise with
their productivity. The TM system says data and information about an employee performance
which help the company in making the necessary important change. With these information and
data, the company can examine about the level of productivity the employee has contributed in a
particular time period. Through this they also can analyses the areas where the employees are
lacking behind so that the training and development program can be provided to these employees
so that they can make the changes in their performance. By collecting and saving the information
about employee performance a deeper study about an employee’s activities can also be
performed as the areas where an employee is good at can get detected along with the areas in
which an employee is not performing up to the mark can also be identified. This information is

also helpful in giving promotions or monetary hike to employees. The company give an
appreciation to employees who has contributed very well in the productivity of a company by
giving them some monetary hike or promotion. Through these the level of motivation of
employees remains high and they feel valued in organization. The talent management shares and
integrates data with HR which will helpful in making the necessary changes in their strategies
related with human resource. The talent management department of a company perform a
research of both internal and external environmental factor so that the changes in strategies can
be effective brought. The external environment may include governmental changes, legal laws,
technological changes, changing the needs and demand of business environment and much more.
Whereas internal environmental factor includes changing the mission and vision of company,
change in strategies used, culture and much more. The talent management collected the
information about both these environmental factors and then integrated with HR of company so
that the strategies could be formed in an appropriate manner. Talent management is a company
also helps in onboarding experience to employees. In that the organization creates a profile about
their employees separately in which all the information about the employees gets stored right
from his date of joining. This information may include the achievements employee has achieved
yet, performance level, leave applied, salary, position in organization and etc. Making the correct
decision about the employee becomes easy through the creation of these separate profiles. The
talent management gives an advantage of retaining the top talent of employees to company. The
strategies in company procedures and policies are formed in such way that it aims to retain their
top talented employees within the company only as the company understands the importance of
these employees and considers them as a true asset. Apart from this, Talent management helps in
bringing the development and improvements in employees. They do so by providing the
necessary training and development programs to these employees. The training and development
program can be for improving the performance, inculcating the new skills and knowledge in
employees or for providing the orientation program to new employees.
To identify the impact of talent management on productivity of Tesco.
According to Shikweni, (2019), when the strategies made in talent management is
effective, it gives a positive change in productivity of organization. By providing the training and
development programs to employees help them in bringing the necessary improvements,
knowing about their job roles, gaining knowledge about policies and work procedure about the
Document Page
organization and much more. Through these training and development program the employees
feel valued and motivated in the workplace as they generate a thinking and perception about the
organization that of investing in their employees. This thinking motivates the employees to give
their best in work. The strategies which are formed by talent management are frame after
performing the both internal and external environmental factors, so the strategies will be formed
according to the need to both, employees and organization. Favorable strategies also help an
organization in increasing its productivity from employees as they face no issue with regard to
the work process, culture or any other sort of problem. The talent management aims to create a
proactive behavior in employees rather then reactive (Cismaru and Iunius, 2019). They aim for
this as they want to train their employees to become conscious enough about the activities which
are happening in and around the industry so that they can get prepared for any drastic change. In
proactive the employees already have started taking actions against the change which will bring
in company or environment but in reactive behavior the employees take the necessary measures
at the time change hit in the organization or in business environment. Tesco performance gets
increased when it aims to insert a proactive behavior in their employees rather then reactive.
Tesco has also made the improvement in their recruitment process. They have mold it in such a
manner that they only select the talented candidates for the job. the company rejects taking
ineffective candidate for the job as they believe that they are not committed to work and also
consumes much time for giving the productivity to company.
To determine the different talent management strategies Tesco can be used to retain top
talent.
According to Mahal, (2019), there are various methods or strategies through which the
company can develop its talent management. One of the majors is to understand the usefulness of
job description. The organization must clearly communicate the job role and responsibility an
employee is untitled to perform in his work. Through this the confusion which lead in the mind
of employees with regard to their work gets clear. An employee will take the job when he
believes that that job description is getting matched with his education or interest and if yes, he
will take that opportunity by will otherwise not. Culture plays an important role in retaining the
employees. The culture of Tesco is set in such a manner that the employees there are free to
communicate to each other irrespective to the position they hold in organization. The employees
can also talk freely to their managers about the issues or problems which they are facing with

regard to their work. This provides the employees a comfortable platform to work as they can
share their issues which they are facing and the managers meanwhile are also providing them
guidance for solving their issues (Hasanpour and et al., 2019). Tesco also follows reward system
in their company. In this system they provide some kind of reward to the employees who are
performing very well in their work. The reward can be financial or non financial. In financial
reward there is an involved of monetary value like increase in salary, bonus, prize money and so
on. Where as in non financial reward there is no involvement of money, for example, promotion,
increase in status, certificate, prize and etc. Through these rewards the motivational level of
employees to perform the work gets increases which directly results into increase in the overall
productivity of organization and achievement of their targets.
RESEARCH METHOD
Research method: The information or data can get collected through 2 sources which are
primary and secondary source of research.
The primary research is a process in which the first hand information gets collected.
These information gets gathered through the use of various sources like surveys, observations,
questionnaire and etc. Primary research gets conducted at places where there was no further
investigation was performed about the topic before and so to do research upon the same the
researcher finds no information, studies or theories therefore to gain the knowledge about the
study he himself has to collect the data from his own experiments, observations and etc. Primary
research is very time taking as the investigator has to collect all information by himself and for
that he has to form a layout about how he would be going to do so. It is costly also as the
researcher has to bear all the cost which is associated with the experiments. But performing the
primary research will have to fetch the accurate and reliable information as the chances of
manipulations are very low in that. Here, in this type of research, a theory or study is developed
in this which can be used by other investigator for further deep study.
The secondary research is the process in which the investigator collects the information
through the already established data sources. For example, the information can get fetch through
newspapers, books, articles, journals, blogs, already performed surveys and etc. gathering the
data from these sources will not consume much time as it takes in primary source of data. Also
collecting the secondary information does not include much cost also. It is easily available to
Document Page
investigator but he has to find the relevant information from the lot. The secondary source of
data has a disadvantage of chances of high manipulation. These data can get manipulated with
time and might be also irrelevant to the topic. It is quite hard to find the information which is
important to topic.
In this research both primary and secondary data has been used for drawing the conclusions and
recommendations.
Time horizon: It is the total time which is allotted for conducting the research is
calculated. The time horizon must be decided according to the type of research the investigator is
conducting. If the researcher is conducting the primary research then more time will get consume
to the time which is decided for conducting a secondary research. To conduct this particular
research a total time of 3 months has been allotted to it (Hojati, and et. al., 2019).
Sampling: It refers to the number of participants the investigator has included in
performing the research. Here in this research a total number of 40 participants has been
involved. The answers of 40 participants have been taken under account for drawing the
conclusions and recommendations. All the participants belong from the employees of Tesco
company has it is believed that they can provide an accurate information about the questions
asked.
Method of analysis: It describes the method which the investigator will use in analyzing
the data collected. There are various methods for analysis but in this report the investigator has
made the use of questionnaires. The researcher will be framing a questionnaire which is related
with the topic of talent management. That questionnaire will be asked by participants and then
their responses would be interpreted (Kim, 2017).
Research Approach: The research approach which is followed in this research is very
systematic. Before conducting the actual research a proper flow chart about the activities that
needs to get undertaken in this research has been used as a schedule for conducting all the tasks
associated with it.

CRITICAL DISCUSSION OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY (500)
SECONDARY
It is a type of resource which is used for gathering of credentials through accessing to
sources such as newspaper, articles, etc. It is to be considered as most effective source of
information as because it is less cost expensive & less time consuming. Through collecting
information through this sources, effective data and credentials are obtained. In research, it is
essential to focus on this different source of information so that objectives are achieved (Kirk,
2020)
Advantages
Main benefit of this source of information is that investigator finds it is easy to collect
credentials.
Disadvantages
Limitation of this source is that it is difficult to use information where only reliable and
new data is needed.
Another drawback of this source of information is that data which is obtained through
this source is not always effective and can leads to issue.
PRIMARY
It is another way through which data or credentials are obtained. It is necessary to states
that it refers to collecting of data through new and fresh sources. In this, data as well as resources
are used from new sources by using different techniques like interviews, questionnaire, surveys
etc. Withe help of these methods, primary data is collected by researcher or investigator easily.
Document Page
It is too analyzed that it is crucial to focus on this method because highly effective information is
gathered.
Advantages
Main benefit of this primary source of data is that information is new and can be used
without any fear.
Another advantage is that is beneficial to use it because it reflects the reliability of data
as it is new.
Limitations
Drawback of this method is that it is cost expensive procedure which can impact on
financial resources.
Thus, from above discussed matter it has been examined that it is essential to focus on
sources of data so that it is easy to gather information in effective manner.
