Research questions
What is the conceptual framework of gender inequality under workplace discrimination?
What are the factors that leads to workplace discrimination in the organization?
What are the ways in which gender inequality at the workplace affects overall
performance of an employee?
Background
Gender discrimination is mainly based on the certain prejudices and is occurred at the
time when employee is been treated as unfavourably due to sexuality, age, race , religion,
maternity, disability and the pregnancy (Dhanani, Beus and Joseph, 2018). In case if an
organization treats their employees differently as each and every employee possess different
types of characteristics to the other staff members that in turn is said as unlawful. The present
report is based on Sainsbury, a leading supermarket chain within the UK having 16% of the share
in respect of supermarket sector. It is said as the largest food retailer and is been a part of the
property and the financial sector. Furthermore, the report presents a detailed review of the factors

relating to gender discrimination based on the relevant aims and the objectives. Moreover, the
study provides a deeper insights towards the research methodology adopted by the company in
order to make the study more and more reliable.
Section Two: Reasons for choosing this research project
Reasons for choosing the project (e.g. links to other subjects you are studying, personal interest,
future plans, knowledge/skills you want to improve, why the topic is important):
The study is been made on workplace discrimination because it is seen as the current issue to
which all the organizations are facing and this in turn affects the performance of an employees.
Moreover, this research problems had resulted a direct impact on the operational efficiency and
the productivity of an employees at the workplace.
Section Three: Literature sources searched
In view of the Graham and et.al., (2019), gender discrimination is referred as an inequality in the
process of hiring,compensating, promoting, assigning job and termination of men and women. It
has to be noted that many of the jurisdictions prohibited some kind of the gender discrimination
through forbidding the discrimination on the basis of certain traits.
King and Mackey, (2016), stated that there are various factors that involves gender
discrimination, religion discrimination, ethnic discrimination etc. With respect to gender
discrimination, it has been reflected that men & women in the organization are treated as
differently that could nearly be imperceptible at level of an individual and emerging only when it
is aggregated around individuals.
Moreover, religion discrimination indicates maltreatment in relation to religious
background of an employee. On the other hand, religion discrimination is considered as more
than resisting an explosive or the problematic behaviour, where the momentary needs is putted
on hold in pursuing larger and the more significant goals which means it is an ability in
regulating the distressing effects such as anger, anxiety and inhibiting an emotional impulsivity.
On the other side, ethnic discrimination in a workplace has occurred when an employee is
been treated as differently from the another because of the fact where he or she belongs to a
specific ethnic or having different nationality. The discrimination at the workplace also resulted
due to the unequal pay where men are been pad more salary than women and this in turn dis-
courages the women employees in performing to their best potential.
In the opinion of Rosenblat and et.al., (2017), it has analysed that discrimination prevails
