TITLE- Significance of motivation on performance, sales and operation- A study on ALDI.
Introduction
Motivation is one of the important factor that is required to consider by every organisation so
that its performance, sales and operation can be improved. This plays important role to promote a
person to act on certain way and to make necessary development in organisation. It is the key
aspect that has impact over the sales and operation of company (Avey, and et. al, 2010).
Background
ALDI is the company that is operating their business in UK. It is the fifth largest supermarket
grocer in UK. This organisation offers various king of product and services to its customers so
that they can satisfy the needs and wants of the people. There are many grocery product provided
by this business unit. They are operating the business in more than 10000 stores in around 18
countries.
The present report presents the motivational factors that have impact over the performance, sales
and operation of business. This is important compete in market and sustain for long time. Here,
critical review is performed to understand the motivation in more effective manner. In present
time, it is important for the organisation to consider these factors so that they can achieve best
result (Bakker and Bal, 2010).
Aim: To identify the significance of motivation for the improvement of performance, sales and
operation.
Objectives
 To identify motivational factors that can be implemented by ALDI.
 To evaluate improvement in performance, sales and operation.
 To identify the impact of motivation on performance, sales and operation.

1.2) Factors contributing in research project process
In an organisation to make the improvement in sales, operation and performance, it is
important to consider motivational factors. There are many factors that are required to consider
to complete research project as cost, resources, time, risk etc. Cost is one of the important factor
that is required to consider so that project can be completed in successful manner. It is important
to consider all the aspect of cost so that effective budget can be prepared.
Resources are one of the important factors because with required resources, project can
not be successful (Bakker and Leiter, 2010). There are many things that are important part to
carry out research in appropriate manner. These factors play vital role in the company. Risk is
one of the factors that is always associated with the every project. This is essential for the
business to consider and make the risk management policy so that it can not be raised further.
Risk can be high and low, it depends upon the research study.
Time is the essential point that is required to consider by the research so that they can
identify the time period within which it is required to complete. It provides clear criteria to
complete the project with in allotted time (BRADY GERMAIN and Cummings, 2010).
1.3) Critical review of key references.
According to Carsrud and Brännback (2011), Motivation is the one of the tool that is in the hand
of the organisation. It provides assistance to enhance employee engagement in work so that they
can perform well. This helps to increase the profitability and productivity of the company. If the
workers are satisfied with the work then they are more able to perform their work in more
effective way. It aids to attain the goals and objective of the organisation. In other word Danish
and Usman (2010), stated that in grocery sector, there are many firm that are operating in UK.
The competition among them is at high level. For this, it is important for the company to setup
their targets so that they can beat competitor. But on the other hand, it resulted to increase the
stress and overload over the employees .
As per the view of Hafiza and et. Al (2011), motivation and operation, sales and performance
are inter related. As much as employees are motivated, the productivity of the company can be
increased. Motivational factors have vast impact over the operation, sales and operation of
organisation, when employees are motivated then they perform well and achieve best objectives.
Apart from this, it is identified that motivated people in retail grocery sector prove to be as
advantage because they can provide effective service to its customers.

In accordance with Herzberg, Mausner and Snyderman (2011), there are several way that can be
implement to motivate the employees. If decision power is provided to employees related to their
task then they can better fulfil the demand of their job. Healthy and positive working
environment at workplace with flexible practices also help to motivate the employees that
resulted into increase in operation, sales and performance of business.
1.4) Research project specification
Research methodology
To conduct the study on significance of motivation on performance, sales and operation,
different tools and techniques are used by the researches. Method can be selected according to
study. For the present report, following methods are used:
 Research design: This technique is used to gather the relevant information related to
study, there are different factors that can be used as Descriptive, Experimental,
Exploratory, Case Study, Causal effect etc. Descriptive study is considered here because
this provides in depth information related to research (Herzberg, Mausner and
Snyderman, 2011).
 Research approach: it provides assistance to attain the goals and objective of
organisation. There are tow approaches that are available in this as Inductive and
Deductive. In the present study, inductive study is used. It is used to collect the data and
analyse the same so that theories can be formed.
 Research philosophy: It shows the way in which information should be gathered,
analysed and used. In present case, Interpretivism philosophy is used. According to this,
researcher will see the reality that is depending upon meaning and understanding of topic.
 Data collection: Two tools can be used to collect the data s primary and secondary. In the
present case, information is collected through primary medium as interview, survey and
questionnaire. Secondary data is based on internet article and books and journals.
 Sampling: this is method through which researcher chooses the group of people. Random
sampling technique is used here. There are different methods that can be used as random,
systematic and stratified sampling (Liao, Martocchio and Joshi, 2010).
 Data Analysis: Qualitative technique is used to analyse the collected data in which tool of
thematic analysis is used by the researcher. Here different themes are made with the
presentation of result, final conclusion.

1.5) Appropriate plan and procedure for the project
Gantt chart suggests the time that is required for each activity that are required to perform to
complete the project by researcher. It states the total time period that is required to complete the
project in effective manner. This shows the time that is consumed at each stage (Paarlberg and
Lavigna, 2010).

2.1) Match resources efficiently to research question and hypothesis.
Different resources are available that can be used by the researcher to conduct the
research. The key resources are time, money and information. Researcher is required to have
proper time to gather, analyse and use the information. Funds are required to complete the
assigned project in effective way. If the funds are not available there then it will be very difficult
for the investigator (Peters and et. al, 2010).
Different ways are available to collect best information related to topic as primary and
secondary. Primary data are used by researcher to identify the relevancy of information. This is
important source because it helps to attain the success. Secondary way consists of internet
articles, book, journals and other online medium. These resources are very helpful for the

researcher to consult the research as it provides correct and relevant information. To fulfil the
aims and objective of investigation, it is important to consider because it aids to sustain in market
for long time and enhance productivity.

researcher has conducted this research by keeping the mind the aims and objective of present

3.1 Research evaluation techniques.
To evaluate the gathered data, there are two techniques that are available in this regard as
qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research techniques consists where some people are
interviewed and through this way data is collected. On the basis of gathered data, the observation
is made so tat it can be identified that what are the improvements that are can be made by the
business. This technique is used where subject is theoretical and require detailed explanation.
Quantitative method is effective tool where data is presented in numeric value. This is
helpful because it is easy to make comparison with past data. Future predication can be made
through the collected data. It is used where facts are required to study and calculation is required
to made so that final conclusion can be attained (Springer, 2011).
For the present study, where the impact of motivation over performance, sales and
operation is explained. In this research qualitative method is used. To gain the best result,
thematic approach is used here where different themes are formed that are based on accumulated
responses of people. Through the [proper analysis of different themes, researcher is able to reach
to final conclusion and suitable recommendation.
3.2 Interpretation and analysis
Theme 1: Motivational aspects are followed in ALDI

Interpretation
As from the above presented graph it can be said that ALDI is the company that consider
motivational factors in their operation. These factors are adopted by this company so that they ca
provide maximum assistance to employees. There are 18 people out of 20 are in favour of this
statement.
Theme 2: Financial reward has vast impact over motivation.
Interpretation
The above result shows that for the motivation, financial reward is one of the important task that
help to highly motivate the employees that result into necessary improvement in the business. It
is identified through above result where 13 people out of 20 are in favour.
Theme 3: Management is providing benefits.

According to result of survey, it is identified that ALDI is the company that consider to provide
benefits to its employees so that necessary growth can be made. But there are some people who
presented their negative consent over it. 8 out of 20 people are not in this favour.

Interpretation
As per above graph, it can be said that cited company consider the opinion of its employees in
their operation so that they can make necessary growth and development in their business. They
provide assistance to its employees and worker. There are 15 people out of 20 are in favour of
this statement.

It is presented that people are in view that operation, sales and performance of employees can be
increased in the organisation adopt effective measures of motivation. When employees are
motivated then they can contribute more to the better performance of organisation and business
can achieve impactful result.

It can be said that when employees of the company perform well in company then it has direct

point and they think that motivational factors play important role to increase the performance of
employees.
Theme7: Higher authority is responsible to implement motivational aspect.
Interpretation
It is identified through above result that maximum people i.e. 16 out of 20 people are in view that
higher authority is responsible to implement motivational factors. It is required for this authority
to consider these aspects so that they can attain best result out of it.
Theme8: Motivation has impact over organisational growth, performance enhancement
and increased in sales and operation.

unit to consider these factors so that they can make necessary improvement in their operation.
3.3 Recommendations and suggestion
From the above study it can be concluded that motivation has vast impact over the
performance of employee, sales and operation of company. When employee is motivated to work
then such person can fulfil the highest level of demand. That is resulted in improve their
performance as they are more able to fulfil the commitments of their job as well as improve the
sales and operational factors of the organisation. It can be recommended to ALDI that it is
required for to motivate their employees so that they can contribute their effort in more effective
manner (Springer, 2011). This can be possible through implementation of training session so that
their skills and knowledge can be increased. This is required for this company to provide
adequate rewards to their employees so that they can be motivated to work more. Flexible
working condition and effectively environment can be availed by them. Through the above
survey, it is identified that there are some people who said the view and opinion of employees
are not considered by them so it is required to consider it. This is also required for higher
authority to take effective measures of motivation. The result of survey shows that this company
does not avail benefits to employees so it is important for them to consider it.

CONCLUSION
As per above study it can be concluded that performance, sales and operation can be
improvement by considering motivational factors. There are many points that are presented in
survey by different people. It is required for ALDI to consider these factors so that they can
make necessary improvement in their business. Literature review helps to collect the best
information that is provided by different authors.
