CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review is refers as an overview of an investigation on a chosen area of study
and provide answers to the related questions. It basically contains a critical analysis and the
integration of data and information from a number of sources and a consideration of any gaps in
the literature and possibilities for future investigations (Chakrabarty, 2019). This section of the
research is effective in conducting an in-depth evaluation on the selected area of study and
provides a brief theoretical framework that address the research issue in appropriate manner.
This section is basically emphasises on secondary sources as in this data and information is
gathered through s3econdary sources like books, journals, published research articles etc. This
part develops a brief or in-depth analysis through analysing the views and perspectives of various
authors and writers. This part helps the investigator in developing a valid and reliable outcome.
The study of globalization.-
Globalization is a method by which organisations and business start operating in the
international scale. This means globalization is when the organisations decides to enter in the
international market for conducting their business. According to Raisiana Debates , 2017 there
has been a positive impact in the global economic activity from past few years. From 2003 the
global median level of real income has doubled. With the help of globalisation the organisations
had started earning profits and increasing their market share at the global level. The study of
globalisation focuses on enhancing the knowledge , understanding , analysis of the role of
globalisation in the Morden world and its effect. Globalisation has also been blamed for many
shortcomings in the economy(D'Amato, 2019) . On the other hand globalisation has become a
instrumental in raising the living standards of the people and lifting up large parts of the world
population from poverty. Free trade openness has enhanced the productivity efficiency and
improved the consumption opportunities. With the increased in opportunities globalisation also
leads to some challenges for the organisations . Due to this the profits received from trade was
not been evenly distributed at the national and international level. Globalisation has made the
economise integrated and inter- dependent. Economise can earn profit with this but this can only
be achieved when there is proper analysis done . Strategies for the global market must be formed
after analysing various things from the present and past situations. If this is done than the

organisations can earn high profits and they will also be able to satisfy their customers in the
global market (Gill and et. al., 2019).
The benefits of globalisation in the context of business organisation-
Globalisation has its own benefits in context of various business organisations. According
to Mike Collins .Globalisation has been good for the multinational company's but not for the
blue and white collar people. It is a complicated issue for ARGOS because globalisation has its
own pros and cons. It has helped the organisation in increasing the profitability but with this
there are many challenges and risks involved for the company. There are some benefits of
globalisation in context to ARGOS which are- it helped and encouraged the producers and
consumers by benefiting them from the economies of scale, helps in generating new ideas and
technology for the international market, increased awareness among the customers about the
brand which directly resulted into increase in sale of the company, etc. All these factors led to
the growth of the company (Ho, 2019). The major reason for the growth was the appropriate
strategy formulation done by the company after the study and analysis of the international
market. As the international market involved many risk and uncertainty. Globalisation has also
helped Argos in knowing the actual need and demand of its customers. There has also been a
technological innovation and development . It enables worldwide access to the source of cheap
raw materials and also enable the company to be cost competitive in the domestic and
international market. This helped the company in competing with its competitors in the global
market a efficient manner. Argos also helped in providing employment opportunities and
increased living standard of the people.
The ways through which Argos Ltd can expand globally.
As per the views of Naseem Jeewa, Sep 2018, the concept of globalisation is a significant
component which disrupt or changes the existing business activities. In simple terms
globalisation is a worldwide movement towards economic, financial, trade and communication
integration i.e. making whole world as a one family. In context to Argos, British retailer and
subsidiary of Sainsbury's. It is established in the year of 1972 (Kádár and Ran, 2019). It hunted
international growth by going global which offered plenty of opportunities to grow and expand
the business. One of the main reason of expanding business globally is to improve the
potentiality. Apart from this it benefits in many forms like increase in sales of existing products,
reduce the dependence of current market, provide opportunities to adapt latest and innovative

technology etc. However here some of the strategies or ways which company can follow to
expand business globally are as follows:
Franchising: Franchising is one of the essential strategy for company to enlarge and
enrich their business activities globally. In this there are two parties i.e. franchisor (who
grants the business) and franchisee (who receives the right to run a business). It benefits
the company in many ways like it improves the profitability, it speed the growth, improve
valuation of business etc (KARA, 2019). In relation to Argos this method is one of the
easiest way to expand its enterprise as they are the leading retailer in British. However
they can easily form franchisor who can increase their sales and also enlarge the
valuation of company.
Joint Venture: Joint Venture is on of the peculiar form of partnership in which two or
more business come together to work on a specific project. In this the main condition is
equal sharing of profit & loss, gain & expense, ownership and governance. It can be
short term or long term basis. It benefits in the areas like it creates the opportunities to
gain new insight, access better resources like hiring expert staff and innovative
technology etc. In case of Argos joint venture will enhance its business operation by
proving various market platforms which enrich their profitability.
However to break the barriers and come out with fruitful product, company have to access the
appropriate ways to expand business globally (Khan, Khan and Haleem, 2019).
CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology is an effective process used by researcher to collection proper
information about the topic. It is most important chapter which explains methods of research
used to conduct study. Researcher tells ways and ideas for essential data which mention research
questions and goals gathered and analysed. Reason behind using data sources, research design,
data collection techniques, research instruments, research strategy, data presentation techniques,
analytical techniques, research reliability and validity are mentioned below. Research onion
framework is considered here by investigator for determining best approach of research. It has
different layers which are as follows:
Research philosophy- Outer most layer in research onion is this it has two types of
researcher philosophy which is interpretivism and positivism. Interpretivisim philosophy is
applied which will help in evaluating and conducting research for gathering data effectively. On

the other hand, positivism philosophy is not suitable choice for doing research in effective and
appropriate manner.
Research Approach- This is next layer of research onion containing two approaches
Inductive and deductive. It is considered to be the best structure for data collection with great
quality and depth in relation with the topic of study . Accordingly, inductive approach is selected
and found more suitable enabling researcher to assemble proper information and achieve better
results for research.
Research Choice- Theses are ways in which research is conducted and they are of two
types qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research concentrate on quality of data or
information gathered and in quantitative research data put more emphasis is on numbers, facts or
figures. Qualitative research is suitable option for investigator in this case to get exact response
from respondents.
Time Horizon- It is one of most important tool for conducting which will provide support
to researcher to evaluate start and end or completion period of any research activity. Gantt chart
is a graphical tool used to present and ensure that investigator complete all research activities in
given time span.
Research design- These are the designs of effective plans and lists of activities for
conducting, managing and achieving objectives of research project. Its considered as most
essential plans and methods that should be practically used to collect data required by researcher.
There are three types in which research designs can be made descriptive, exploratory, and
experimental. Descriptive design is more suitable as it will provide evidence to supports profile
of individuals, situations and circumstances. It provides deep evaluation of factors or variables
present in population.
Sources of data- Two sources are there for collecting information primary and secondary
research. The data which is being collected personally by the investigator through questionnaires
and conducting interviews is primary research using that existing data and sorting it out
according to need and requirements is known as secondary research. It is used because through
this basic outline can be made about investigation and focusing on important areas. Both sources
are used by investigator for better and exact collection of data in relation with the topic.

assemble accurate information about topic some or all these tools can be used. But in this tpoic
questionnaire is most appropriate to gather reliable and valid data.
Research sampling- Sample is group of people or items taken from a large segment for
measurement. Research sampling is divided into two parts probability and non-probability
method. Sampling methods are many like random, stratified, systematic and judgemental
sampling. In this research, stratified and judgemental random sampling are selected to take right
sample size which will help in better results. Judgemental sampling is needed in this project to
ensure optimum use of resources as data is assembled from respondents who have good
knowledge about the topic of research and 20 candidates are chosen with the help of randaom
sampling.
Data presentation techniques- There are several types of data presentation techniques and
amongst these techniques or tools accurate relatable way is adopted to present data. These tools
are graphs like pie charts, line graphs and bar graphs. Amongst these one or more tools are used
by every investigator for presenting assembled data.
Data analysis techniques- Three types of data analytical techniques are there deductive
analysis, inductive analysis and regression analysis. Although all three techniques are used by
others as they hold equal importance. In this report inductive approach is used by investigator as
it is helpful in analysing all types of situations and get better understanding of issue according to
different circumstances.
