EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of the report has been to find out the impact of age discrimination on employee
motivation. It has been analysed that report has made use of the various methods of data
collection that has assisted researcher in finding out the end results. It has also been evaluated
that in the report researcher has made use of quantitative method. In this type of method, results
have been derived by making use of numerical facts and figures. This has assisted the scholar in
gaining better information which has helped them in deriving the results. The main findings of
the report have provided the facts that discrimination related to age in Waitrose Supermarket has
affected the growth of hospitality organization (Hollis-Sawyer, 2017). It has also laid the huge
impact on the motivation level of employees as they were not being able to achieve their goals
and objectives. It has also been analysed that every worker in firm has wanted to remove the
discrimination based on the age. It has been evaluated from the discussion that every employee
has to be provided with equal opportunities irrespective of their age. This has assisted the firm in
enhancing their productivity as well as managerial efficiency. It has also been analysed from the
report that every workers feels like discrimination has reduced their morale and ability to
perform (Griffin, Bayl-Smith and Barbour, 2017). It has been analysed that the age related to
discrimination has also increased the employee turnover and it has also increased the
absenteeism. Old age worker has also started having feeling of negativity in them. This has made
the environment of organization worsening. In order to overcome this situation, the Waitrose
Supermarket has started adopting better policies which has helped them in achieving goals and
objectives.
METHODOLOGY
It is based on the process of gathering or collecting large amount of data. It is to be
considered the philosophical framework within the research study. Generally, it will be
describing the methodology that associated with set of paradigmatic belief, assumption. In order
to use for conducting research.
This section plays crucial role in undertaking a systematic study that help researcher in
gathering detailed and measurable information about the specified topic and rea area. As it
includes various methods and techniques to effectively evaluate the entire research activities.
There is various research method which can be used by researcher so that they can collect
authentic as well as reliable information (Stypinska and Turek, 2017).
Document Page
Research type: There are two type of researches one is qualitative and other one is
quantitative. Qualitative research type is based on theoretical framework. It is based on the study
of human science. In this the data is been collected with the help of open ended questionnaire
and conversational communication. In this method data can also be gathered with the help of
unstructured interview. It is really easy to collect the information which is qualitative in nature. It
has also been analysed that the other type of data is quantitative in nature. Present report will
make use of the quantitative data. In this the result is been derived from the numerical facts and
figures. This type of data is authentic and reliable as it has been collected with the help of
desirable results from the formula obtained.
Data collection: There are various type of data collection method such as primary and
secondary data collection method. In the primary data collection method, it has been analysed
that the raw data are been collected. The data can be collected on the basis of questionnaire,
observation, interview (Bayl-Smith, 2019). It can take large amount of time when researchers are
collecting it. The other type of data collection is secondary. In this Secondary research also
allows researchers to collect secondary data from various sources, such as books, magazines,
papers, etc. For the present research, the scholar will make use of questionnaire to get the end
results.
Limitations of primary data: For collection of primary data where interview is to be
conducted the coverage is limited and for wider coverage a greater number of researchers are
required. A lot of time and efforts are required for data collection.
Research approach: There are two type of research approach one is inductive and other
one is deductive. In this research deductive is been used as the quantitative study has been
selected. The other one is deductive which is been used in quantitative study (Alon-Shenker,
2019). These methods are being used in the study so that researcher can find out the end results
and also can achieve their goals and objectives.
Explain and justify the research approach
The researcher has been understanding the concept qualitative approach for collecting or
gathering the non-numerical data such as interview, transcript and text document. This type of
approach will be considered as important aspects for researcher to understand conceptual thing

for topic. The qualitative approach may be referred in both behavioral as well as verbal data into
classified in proper manner.
Quantitative approach is generally expected to turn into raw value into accurate
meaningful data by using critical thinking. It always supports for researcher to use mathematical
calculating to find out the desirable result or outcome. The quantitative approach is associated
with actual finding evidence to either supported and formulated in the research processes.
Mixed methods approach is consider the methodology for conducting research that
involves gathering, analyzing and also integrating both qualitative as well as quantitative
method. It provide the brief idea about both method for identifying accurate data in future
research.
It has been justified that each and every method consider unique identity for acquiring
relevant information related research topic. It should be used the mixed method for calculating
the result in both theoretical as well as practical manner.
State and justify the research technique
There are different research technique applicable for conducting the better research
study.in this way, it provide the better idea for scholar to use appropriate method for information
gathering.
Interviews is the method which mainly used for identifying opinion of respondents. It has
been conducted the various questions asked to be selected respondent. On the other hand
Questionnaires is similar to interview when identifying opinion of respondent where every one
share their idea, belief and though on the basis of experience.
Case studies are method for gathering information through journals, article and
newspaper. In previous paper, it has already done the study where it help for researcher to
implement new idea in future expansion. Modelling is another technique for representing the
data or information in the flowchart.
As per justification, it has analysed that different methods consider for acquiring more
knowledge in the future expansion.
Explain that suggested data collection method
The data collection method is considered as process for gathering large information
related the research topic. It will be categorized into different types: primary and secondary.
Document Page
On the basis of suggestion, it has given advice to select the primary data collection for
identifying lot of information. It became easier for research to understand the concept in logical
manner. Sometimes, it has finding the difficulties in term of association with technique but it
easier to use them.
Explain the approach to analysis of data
In Qualitative, it can be analysis the data through interviews, experiments and other focus
groups. It is going to involve for identifying the common pattern within specific responses. In
order to analyzing them and achieve the research aim as well as objective.
In Quantitative, It is involved the interpretation of number, figures and number which
always attempt to find out the emergence of accurate finding. It may use literature review.

Interpretation – By above table it is found that significant value P= .693 which is more than P=
0.05. thus, there is strong co relation between age discrimination affect on motivation and
employee performance. so, when motivation is reduced it highly impact on performance. besides
that, P value is .717 which is more than P= 0.05. so, here as well variable is related to each other.
DISCUSSION
So, it is evaluated that in Waitrose there is age discrimination which is done an it is affecting
on employee motivation. however, company is hiring young talent to bring in creativity in work.
Document Page
However, significant value obtained is P= .000 that is less than P = 0.05. So, there is no
difference in means and relationship between age discrimination and hiring of young talent. the
discrimination is done by management. they do favoritism in taking decision and engage young
staff. Along with this, it is also similar to the other discrimination at working area like racism,
sexism. In this, both younger and elder employee get discriminated because of manager unfair
decision within the company that may reduce their performance. This is the reason that
organization may face high employee turnover, negative brand image, dissatisfied employees.
Moreover, significant value obtained is P= .000 that is less than P = 0.05. therefore, no difference
in means and relationship between age discrimination and employee performance. Mainly, it
types of issue is highly concern with the inequality at working that may create issues among
employer and employer relation. Due to this, workers get demotivated towards the management
and their job activities as well. This may increase high employee turnover that also reduce
positive brand image of company market place.
Moreover, in Waitrose most staff think they are not as efficient as 25 years old because they
lack basic skills and knowledge in order to compete with them. the staff required training to gain
and increase capability. besides, it is evaluated that in Waitrose young staff likes to work with
similar age group. this is because they feel comfortable in it. this allows in bringing creativity in
team work and attaining goals in effective way. this has led to change in thinking of employee
mind that they need to work with young talent in order to grow and develop. this will help in
gaining new knowledge and skills which can be implied in bringing creativity in work and
attaining goals and objectives. This has supported company in growing and also achieving their
set target and objectives. This has assisted the firm in enhancing their productivity as well as
managerial efficiency. It has been analysed that the age related to discrimination has also
increased the employee turnover and it has also increased the absenteeism. Old age worker has
also started having feeling of negativity in them. This has made the environment of organization
worsening.
CONCLUSION
From the above study it has been summarised that discrimination related to the age has
reduced down the motivation level of employees. It has also increased employee turnover and
Document Page
brand reputation of firm has been reduced because if it. It has also been analysed that company
has not to be engaged in any type of discrimination so that efficiency and productivity of
employees has been increased. This has also assisted them in engaging to the firm and also it has
helped company in creating employee loyalty. The discrimination has been reduced by the
company so that they can be able to grow and also it has assisted the firm in achieving the goals
and objectives. It has also been analysed that equal opportunities have been provided to all
employees, irrespective of the age. This has supported company in growing and also achieving
their set target and objectives. It has the negative impact on the working environment of
company, so firm has been thinking of removing it. This has assisted in losing the potential
employees and also it has created barriers in the organizational environment. This has led to
company thinking of not been engaged in doing discrimination.
RECOMMENDATION
It has been suggested to the Waitrose Supermarket that they must be engaged in formulating
proper policies related to reduction of discrimination. It has also been recommended to
hospitality organization that they must also be engaged in making sure that equal opportunities
are been provided to all workers who are working in company irrespective of their age
(O'Loughlin and et.al., 2017). This will support firm in growing and also they will be able to
increase their profitability as well as revenue. It has also been suggested that the researcher can
also make use of the other method for doing the research. Like in this report they have made use
of quantitative data; on the other hand, they can make use of the qualitative data analysis. This
can also assist the researcher in finding out the end results. It has also been analysed that the
researcher can also collect the secondary data as in this report they have collected the primary
information. It has also been suggested that the researcher can also be engaged in making use of
inductive analysis. This can also help them in gaining end results. It has also been suggested that
in order to reduce the discrimination, a better environment can be created by firm.
REFLECTION
I have learned a lot from the research. At first I was really nervous and anxious. I do not
have the idea about how to search relative key term, so my team member and senior helped me
in exceling in it. I feel like the objectives of my research has been achieved by me. I have gained
lots of knowledge about the discrimination done on the basis of age. I have also analysed that
this type of discrimination reduces the motivation level of employees. During the time of making

the research, I have analysed about my strength and weakness. I have learned that I am a good
communicator and I have good communication skills. I was freely able to explain to my senior
and tutor about the problem faced by me. I have also analysed that I was unable to work in team,
so I need to enhance my team working skills so that my productivity also increases. I have also
analysed that my problem solving and decision making skills were also quiet efficient. I was able
to make better decisions during the time when I was engaged in doing the research. I have also
analysed that I was unable to follow the research methodology at first but my senior helped me
in explaining the type of research. This has assisted me in achieving my career goals and
objectives. I have also analysed my weakness which is management of time. I realised that my
report was delayed because of the uneven management of time, so I need to be engaged in
prioritising the important task so that I will be able to complete my research on time. I have also
analysed that I have good presentation skills. I was able to make use of the internet and also
showed the report to my tutor, and they were quiet impressed. During the initial phase I was
really anxious but after the support of my tutor and my senior I was able to achieve my research
goals and objectives. I have analysed that I also have good inter connection skills. I was able to
directly connect with my team members. It was really beneficial for me to finish my research and
also I was able to gain more knowledge so that my goals and objectives can be achieved. I have
also been able to learn about the various research methodologies.
