ABSTRACT
Present report has been taken into consideration on Ethnic and Cultural Differences which
are caused due to cultural diversity and influence on the organisational performance. The
differences in the culture and ethics arise the cultural diversity issue at workplace and through
this performance of an organisation impacted. Aim and objectives arise on the basis of the
research area. For conducting literature review part, secondary sources are used. There will be
research philosophy, data collection methods, research type, sampling and many other part
included in research methodology discussed. Methodology is a way for collection as well as
analysis of data in an effective manner. In present research, qualitative research method is used
and also the interpretivism research philosophy. For collection of information and data,
questionnaire is created by consisting different questions related to specific subject area. For
analysis of data, thematic analysis will be used. Conclusion is based on the whole investigation
that conducted on the research area. Recommendation provides the suggestions to company so
that it can make improvement in its business area. The main findings are that company needs to
manage all the differences arise at workplace and also give the equal opportunities to the
different cultural staff members at workplace. This helps in enhancing the employee’s
performance as well as organisational productivity.

TOPIC: Managing cultural diversity in the workplace”
INTRODUCTION
Cultural diversity is explained as quality of the diverse culture. This is an existence of
variety of the culture within society. It is system of the behaviours and beliefs which recognise
presence of all the diverse groups in company, acknowledge as well as values social- cultural
differences and also encourage them so that they can give their better contribution within
organisation. It helps in identify and respect the way of being which are not necessarily own
which are interact with the other that help in respect, trust and also understanding the culture
(Ang and Van Dyne, 2015). This diversity helps in make country interesting the place to live as
the people from the diverse culture which contribute new way of thinking, language skills and
the different experience. Tesco is multinational grocery retailer and the general merchandise with
headquarters in England, United Kingdom. It has diversified in to the areas like clothing,
furniture, petrol, software, toys and others. The main purpose of conduct this investigation is that
it provides the information about the cultural diversity in an organisation that develop negative
and positive impact at the workplace. In present report will be discuss about different parts of
investigation such as aim, objectives, literature review, methodology, findings and results,
conclusion and recommendation. These all are helpful in conduct an investigation systematically.

Background of Research
Cultural diversity helps in support an opinion that each person can give the unique as
well as positive contribution to large society due to the differences. These kinds of attributes
consists demographic factors and the value (Chen, Liu and Portnoy, 2012). This term is mainly
explaining the various cultures co- existing with the one. Tesco Company deals in the retail
sector and it was founded in year 1919 in United Kingdom. This company has expanded its
business in all over the world. The employees of this company are committed to giving inclusive
working environment in which the values and differences is embraced. Tesco conduct its
operations and the business activities globally and it is likely to translate in to diverse workforce
(Martic, 2018).

Rationale for the study
Given research is based on the Ethnic and Cultural Differences which are caused due to
cultural diversity. The main rationale behind conducting this investigation is that, learner can
aware about understanding of the new areas of research like cultural diversity (Chrobot-Mason
and Aramovich, 2013). It is a main concern for company and this arises the ethnic and cultural
differences at workplace. This research helps in enhancing the knowledge and skills of an
investigator so that this can perform research activities systematically without arising any kind of
complexities. In future, this present study encourages a researcher to engage in research process.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review is comprehensive summary of the previous investigation on research
topic. It provides the theatrical base for research that helps in identify nature of investigation.
This part provides the in- depth understanding about Ethnic and Cultural Differences which are
caused due to cultural diversity and influence on the organisational performance. The aim of
literature review is to gain better understanding of existing research and also debates relevant to
specific study area. The topic covered in literature review is cultural diversity concept, benefits
of cultural diversity to organisation and Impact of Ethnic and Cultural Differences on

organisational performance of Tesco. The sources used in Literature review are secondary such
as books, internet sources, articles, magazines and others.
Concept of Cultural diversity
As per opinion of Katie Sawyer (2018) Cultural diversity is defined as the presence
within culture of various ethnic or cultural groups. Culture is regarded as underlying values that
guide the behaviour of people. At workplace, it is result of the values, beliefs, practices and
traditions of staff members on the basis of age, religion, ethnicity and gender. In this, people
belongs to different culture and work in similar organisation. Managers of Tesco have realised
that the workforce diversity gives intangible and material advantages (Dalton, D'Netto and
Bhanugopan, 2015). In context to reap advantages of the cultural diversity in company, managers
in Tesco should communicate commitment for addressing issue related to diverse workforce. In
company, there are many staff members working and the manager should treat all the employees
equally so that employees does not feel demotivated and work together.
Globalisation has made this imperative for companies and also multinational
organisations which are managed effectively diverse workplace so that organisational
performance can be improved. Workforce diversity arises when the company expand in to the
foreign markets (Ferdman and Deane, 2014). The diversity is mainly based on requirement to
harness and accommodate the people differences in a way that can lead to attain organisational
objectives effectively. On the other hand, diversity management helps in Tesco to encourage the
innovation and creativity within company that mainly bearing in mind that staff members are
permit to think freely and express their feelings, it is central to attracting as well as sustaining
talent within company.
Benefits of cultural diversity at workplace
Kristina Martic (2018) stated that At workplace, Diversity means that company employ
broader range of diverse people. This consists people with the various characteristics. In Tesco, it
arises when firms are opening to hire staff members from various backgrounds, regardless
culture race and religion. As Tesco is large size company and it hires and sustain diverse pool of
the people and also bring regarding different benefits to firm and employees. There are some
benefits of cultural diversity in company mention below:
Variety of different perspectives- In Tesco, diversity assures variety of the various
perspectives. It means that staff members belongs to different backgrounds and also have the

varied characteristics which they like to have the different experience and skills, employees in an
organisation with high workplace diversity have the access to different perspectives that
beneficial for planning and also implementing business strategy (Ferdman and Sagiv, 2012).
Increased creativity- Diversity helps in Tesco to make the innovation and also creativity
at workplace. In Tesco, there are some people with various background tend to have the various
experience and perspectives. Exposure to variety of the various perspectives leads to the high
creativity (Patrick and Kumar, 2012).
Improve employee performance- Staff members are likely to feel more happy and
comfortable in environment where the insensitivity is main priority. At workplace, quality is
necessary to encouraging staff from all the backgrounds so that they can feel more confident in
ability as well as attain best. High team morale helps in enhancing productivity of business
(Riccucci, 2018).
Reduce employee turnover- The workplace diversity in Tesco company is more effective
for the employee retention for long time period. Under this, Tesco with the diverse workforce
mainly more inclusive of various perspectives and characteristics of people (Garib, 2013).
Improve productivity level- Diversity helps in bring the various talent together and they
al focus on attaining the common objective for using various skills set. The people belong to
different places have different mindset and they think different from the people. It helps in
enhancing productivity level of business (Sharma, 2016).
Develop talent pool- As an organisation, Tesco embracement diversity that will attract
more people to vacancies as this will view as progressive company and also appeal top the
people from walks of life. As there are large number of applicants for arisen of every vacancy,
chances of searching exceptional person enhanced tool. It helps in employee retention and they
want to want in an environment that accept all backgrounds and also promote an equality
(Guillaume and et. al., 2017).
Impact of Ethnic and Cultural Differences on organisational performance of Tesco
On the basis of viewpoint of ROB AND EVE (2019) it has been stated that organisations
facing many issues related to diversity if employees. Tesco is large size retail organisation and it
has strong base. It is market leader and dominating within spectrum of sector. Under this, Ethical
Trading Initiative use ETI base code that included chosen employment freely etc. Tesco face
ethical issue related with information system to develop better understanding of IS. In company,

there are many staff working and holds more personal as well as financial information. On the
other hand, Tesco company face trust and integrity related ethical issues. There is basic
understanding about an integrity that consists thoughts of conducting the business affairs which
an honesty and also commitment to treat consumers. Under this, the Data Protection Act 1998 is
developed to keep all personal details like name, contact no. etc. Confidential among person and
company that helps in access detailed from people. This company brakes the trust of people and
it is main reason that receive all annoying calls and also emails from the insurance providers. It
negatively impact on the organisation performance of Tesco and reduce profitability (Hofhuis,
van der Zee and Otten, 2015).
In context to cultural differences, Tesco provide the better working environment to
employees so that they can work effectively together. This company creates culture of company
in which the people of all background can work together and thrive in affirming and rewarding
environment (Trenerry and Paradies, 2012). Tesco can induce the culture change through
uncovering beliefs and core values to staff members through discussing change process and
develop new behaviour norms. This company has shown broader potential to capture the foreign
markets with the political, cultural and environmental factors. It is helpful in create positive
impact on business and the performance level of company will be enhanced (Lambert, 2016).
P2 Research methods and conduct primary and secondary research
It refers to procedures, tools and approaches that are used to gather data for study in order
to uncover new knowledge and improve understanding of the subject (Yanaprasart, 2016). Using
the scientific methods, careful consideration of the research is applicable to specific concerns.
Different research methods are mention below:
Quantitative data analysis: With this method, value of data are analysed in forms of
numbers as well as counts. It comprises calculating variable frequencies as well as differences
among variables. Business performance of Tesco is dependent variable that is basically
dependent on cultural diversity (Mareno and Hart, 2014).
Qualitative data analysis: It is based on interpretative philosophy. It helps in understand
given research issue from perspectives of local population it consists. This is mainly efficient in
obtaining the particular information regarding behaviours, opinions and values of specific
populations (Martin, 2014).
