TITLE:
“To analyse role of equal opportunities in increasing motivation and satisfaction level of
employees.” A Study on Premier Inn.
INTRODUCTION
Research is a creative and systematic work which is used by individuals so as to
increasing their knowledge regarding a specific topic. There are several activities that has to be
followed by individuals in order to completing research programme along with achieving
objectives. Research project is a legal document that includes whole information about the
resources, time duration, funds etc. which are required so as to completing the investigation. In
this research discussion about equal opportunities will be done by taking Premier Inn hotel into
consideration.
Overview of research
Equal opportunity can be defined as a concept which is to be used by employer within the
workplace so as to getting better contribution from the employees. According to this concept,
employer have responsibility to provide equal opportunities to their employees so that any kind
of conflict wouldn't be arise at workplace. Organisation's growth and success is highly depends
on contribution of employees. Therefore, it is very essential for employers or managerial
personnels of firm to provide equal opportunities to their each employees without doing
partiality at workplace. Chosen organisation for conducting this research is Premier Inn hotel
whose headquarters are located in England, UK.
Background of research
Premier Inn is a big name in hospitality industry of UK which provides luxury and lavish
hospitality services to their guests. Their offerings includes dinning, cab facility, food and
beverages, spa, swimming pool, Bar facility etc. Organisation have made its good brand image in
hospitality sector because they offers best quality products and services to their customers as per
their needs and wants. It is also known as the largest hotel brand within the UK. Hotel provides
equal opportunities to their employees and recruits them on the basis of their skills and
capabilities. Along with it, Managers of organisation does not conduct any kind of partiality at
workplace due to which their employees performs their given tasks with full zeal and confidence.
Apart from that, due to partiality dissatisfaction among the employees can be arise within the

Rational of the research
Main reason behind conducting this research is to determining the role of equal
opportunities within the organisation in enhancing satisfaction and motivation level of
employees. Needs and wants of customers can be changed over a time period due to which
employees who are providing their services within the hospitality industry have to changed their
preferences and working style as per the demand of situations. So that, organisation can easily
compete with their rivals. For maintaining good brand image, it is very important for the
managers of Premier Inn to provide equal opportunities to their each employee so that they get
satisfied and motivated while working at workplace. Whereas, if management of respective
organisation will not consider the needs and wants of employees and makes partiality at
workplace then it will leads dissatisfaction and demotivation among the employees which is not
good for the brand image of firm.
Statement of research problem
Research problem will help the researcher in properly conducting the research by
eliminating problem that can be faced by them at the time of execution of research. During the
research programme, researcher should allocate each resources effectively so that better
outcomes will be received at the end of research. Problems that can be faced by researcher
during the research are irresponsive nature of respondents, ineffective utilisation of funds,
unsupportive nature of team members etc. these are the main problems that can restrict the
researcher in achieving objectives of research (Anstey, Fletcher, and Walker, 2017).
Aim of the Study
Main aim which is framed by researcher in order to completing this investigation is “To
identify the role of equal opportunities in increasing motivation and satisfaction level of
employees.” A Study on Premier Inn.
Objectives
To acquire knowledge regarding the concept of equal opportunity
To determine the positive impact of equal opportunities in improving motivation and
satisfaction level of employees
To identify the importance of equal opportunity in growth and development of hospitality
firm

Gantt Chart
Gantt chart is a graphical bar chart that is used by researcher so as to managing each
activity of research in specific time-frame. There are several activities such as introduction,
Literature review, research methodology etc. that has to be conducted by researcher in the
decided time frame so that appropriate recommendation and conclusion can be formed easily.
With the help of this chart, researcher can easily achieve their preset objectives of research.
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review is the section in which objectives of research are discussed in detail by
using online resources. In this part secondary resources are used so as to gaining in-depth
understanding about the topic of research (Heath, 2018).
Concept of equal opportunities.
As per the views of Andy Mason, 2019. Equal opportunity is a concept that defines all
individuals of workplace should be treated in equal manner by the employers so that healthy
atmosphere can be framed within the organisation. In other words, opportunity is a three way
relationship between individual preset goals and obstacles. Several individuals are working
within the organisation and each of them wants growth and success in their personal or
professional career. Therefore, it is very important for each employer to provide equal
opportunities at workplace without making partiality so that desired goals or objectives can be
achieved easily. Apart from that, each employee having specific sets of skills and capabilities
which is used by them in completing their given tasks so that, employers or their seniors have
4

responsibility to provide them equal opportunities at workplace to their each employee so that
better contributions can be received by them for achieving desired goals or objectives. Apart
from that, if employers or managers will put more pressure on their staff members without
providing them opportunities of growing their career then it will lead dissatisfaction and
demotivation among them which is not beneficial for the brand image of organisation. Moreover,
employers or managers should delegate roles and responsibilities to their employees by analysing
their skills and capabilities so that they will be able in completing the given task in appropriate
manner. This will automatically leads equal opportunities at workplace which is beneficial for
raising satisfaction and motivation level of employees.
From previous some years, Hospitality industry have experiences effective changes
within the workplaces and all these modifications are done so as to increasing motivation and
satisfaction of employees at workplace. Along with it, several legislations such as Employment
act, 2002 Equality act etc. are also formed by government of UK nation so that any partiality
can't be executed by employer at workplace. According to the legislations, any employer have no
right to making biasness or partiality at workplace if the organisations and its managers are not
following these laws then they have to pay huge penalties which is not good for their brand
image. Hence, it can be said that managers of Premier Inn have duty to provide equal
opportunities to their employees so that they will contribute their maximum contribution in
making growth and success of organisation in marketplace. Furthermore, with the help of equal
opportunities employees will feel motivated at workplace which will leads high productivity and
profitability in Premier Inn (Wrench, Kaur and Mittal, 2017).
Positive impact of equal opportunities in improving motivation and satisfaction level of
employees
According to Louis Petty, (2016), In order to getting better contribution from the
employees, managers of organisations have responsibility to provide equal opportunities to their
staff members so that any kind of conflict or issues not be arise at workplace. Apart from that,
equality is the right of employees and employers have duty to provide them so that they will
provide their maximum contribution in growth and success of organisation. For eliminating
inequalities from the workplace, legislations such as Equality Act, 2010 are also formed by UK
government so that good relations will be build among the employers and employees at
workplace. This act is basically designed for protecting the rights of employees and provide them

opportunity to gain equal treatment at workplace. Equal opportunities not only supports the
employers in raising their productivity and profitability but also supports the employees in
getting equal treatment from their superiors at workplace. In context of Premier Inn, their
managers should treated their employees in equal manner so that they don't get dissatisfied and
demotivated at workplace because it can negatively impact on the growth and sustainability of
their firm. So that, it is very important for the employers of Premier Inn to treat their staff
members equally at workplace so that their motivation and satisfaction level can be maintained at
workplace and they perform their duties with full zeal and confidence (Saraih and et. al., 2017).
Therefore, providing equal opportunities to the employees brings various beneficial outcomes to
company in terms of high employee retention, increasing employee engagement etc.
Importance of equal opportunity in growth and development of hospitality firm
According to the Jeff Durham, (2019), concept of equal opportunity having broad size
that defines each employees within the workplace have right to get chance of promotion or
sustainability at workplace. Equality is a term which not only limited up to promotion whereas, it
is a broad concept that provide opportunity to individual to get growth and success in their
personal or professional career. Apart from that, through equally treating the employees
employers can gain better contribution from employees which assist them in gaining competitive
edge in marketplace. With the help of this concept, Managers of Premier Inn can delegate roles
and responsibilities to their employees as per their efficiency and competencies which create
enhanced level of satisfaction among them and they will be able in putting their maximum
efforts for completing the given task. This will automatically leads the firm towards growth and
sustainability at marketplace. Through getting equal opportunities from the employers employees
will automatically encourage towards the working structure of organisation and their
responsibilities whereby new ideas of working will be developed at Premier Inn which leads the
firm towards growth and development in market (Ledezma, Kuntke and et. al., 2015).
Factors that can be used by organisation for providing equal opportunities to their
employees
According to R Arne-son, (2019) : Equality of opportunity means that there should be a
justice of processes through which individual from different different background or socio
culture reach at a particular outcomes. This is also known as political ideal. The company like
Premier Inn, which is the largest hotel brand with more than 70,000 rooms and 730 hotels. It is

known for providing excellent services to the customer with their best efforts. The company
should also focus on the equality of opportunity as this will keep their employee morale boost,
for providing them job satisfaction, increased loyalty towards the organisation and will also
ensure the winner to excel and rewarded. To maintain the equality of opportunity Premier Inn
must considered on the following points :-
Demographic gaps : These gaps are the crucial factors which has affected the equality of
opportunity. As it involves gaps in educational qualifications, culture, economic status, age group
etc. Premier Inn is required to look into these factors as this would cause hinder to their day to
day operations. This would also lower their morale to work with the company.
Motivation: It plays a critical role in the businesses. Every business works upon the
factor of motivation to motivate their staff in different different ways such as providing them
bonus amount, extra hours wages etc. The company like Premier inn should also focus on
providing equal benefits to their employee in the matter of bonus, salary, holidays etc. if the
company works on the biasses factor the employee would feel demotivated and can be proved as
harm to the companies performance.
Discrimination : There should be a fair treatment to each and every employee of the
company. Premier Inn is required to treat each and every employee equally whether it be a male
staff or female staff they should not maintain different different norms, rules and regulations
regarding the working in the company .This discrimination would lead to conflicts among them
and decrease their profitability.
Religion and belief : individual from each and every caste and country must be treated
equally. Premier Inn must consider this factor as a important one as there are numbers of
employee working in the company they should be treated fairly in all cases if there is a caste-ism
this would create a big problem to the company and can lead the company environment to be a
stressful.
CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology- Research methodology can be defined as systematic plan to
collect the data in order to conduct a research properly. The main purpose of research is to
explore the problem which helps to find the exact query so that it is address them in appropriate
manner. Different types of research methods are explained below:
Types of investigation:
7
Document Page
Usually there are two types of research methods which is named as qualitative and
quantitative. The first method is to collect the relevant data through numerical facts which
includes mathematical and statistics facts that is known as quantitative research. Usually survey,
questionnaire, co-relation research etc. are the common method of quantitative research. While
qualitative methods are those which provide detailed information that is not based on numerical
facts. Common methods of qualitative research are discussions, interview, case study research
etc. are the common methods through which information is collected easily. In state of studying
the report qualitative methods is the best approach that helps to understand topic in depth and
helps to draws a meaningful information from them.
Research design:
Research design refers to the framework of different methods that are chosen by
researcher to ensure that the research problem is effectively handled by them. They provide the
idea that how to conduct a research appropriately by implementing specific methodology. Their
are mainly three types of research methods which is descriptive, experimental and exploratory.
Descriptive details provides whole information about facts and figures. Exploratory research
helps researcher to develop new concept and experimental approach help to understand
relationship between effect and cause of the situation. Particular for this research descriptive
design is implemented because it provides facts and figures in detailed. Moreover it helps
researcher to draw meaningful conclusion which governs that it is better from experimental and
exploratory (Brown, Kraimer and Bratton, 2019).
Research Approach:
Research approach is considered as one of the most essential element that help to carry
the research in systematic and sequential process. Their are two types of research approach
which is inductive and deductive. The inductive approach helps researcher to emerge new
theories in the organisation. While deductive approach refers to develop new theories which are
supported by hypothesis through considering quantitative approach. To conduct this research
inductive approach is executed because it is very useful for drawing meaningful conclusion.
Research Philosophy:
They provide detailed information through which data is collected, interpreted and
analysed. This is an essential part for researcher as they provide direction to complete the task
with efficiency and effectiveness. Positivism and interpretive are two type of research

philosophy. The main focus of interpretive philosophy is to interpret different elements that is
depended on qualitative facts. While the positivism philosophy relates with the scientific
methods that are depended upon qualitative facts. In order to consider this research interpretive
method is used because it is the most effective tool of research that deals in qualitative facts. As
compare to positivism philosophy, process of interpretive philosophy is simple and less time
consuming process.
Data Collection methods:
It plays vital role in measuring and gathering the information in sequential and systematic
manner. Their are mainly two types of collecting methods which is known as primary and
secondary. The data which is collected directly from the participants is known as primary data it
is totally new and according to current trends of market and customers. This is expensive and
time consuming process.
Sampling- This is a method used in statistical analysis to determine the collective
observation through taking a small lot from the derived population. There are various method of
sampling can be used but the researcher has used selective sampling method in which researcher
has selected number of samples of different nature from the large population. The researcher has
selected 50 samples from the variety of population.
Research ethics- This is concerned with the moral values that is required to be followed
by the researcher while conducting research. The historical scandals shows that there is a proper
need of governance to conduct a research to assure that people or animals both are not harmed.
The researcher should be not bias while selecting samples and like this all the norms has to be
followed by researcher to conduct a ethical research (AK, 2017).
Research limitation- The conduction of research has several problems like meta
research which means conducting research of research and it might use biasses, methodological
flaws etc. The western method of conducting any research is a dominant and it has indigenous
people as participator which has resulted in lacuna in method of data collection.
Research reliability and validity- The reliability of research is estimated through proper
analysis of the sampling method and procedures. The researcher is required to verify the result
through proper revaluation of research and its sample used.
Research budget- The main source of funding while conducting a research comes from
the corporate research departments, private companies and government department. The type of
9
Document Page
research is the main factor which affect the source of fund. The researcher spend huge amount of
time to generate fund for the research to get grant from the authorised authorities. The grants are
not only important for researcher but also a source of benefit.
Time Horizon- The researcher is required to conduct the research in a specified time
period so that research can be used for the objective for which research is conducted. The
researcher has specified time of 20 days to conduct the research and it will be the basis to check
efficiency of the research.
CHAPTER4: DATA FINDINGS, ANALYSES AND DISCUSSION
Data analysis
Data analysis is a process which consists of examining, improving, transforming or
modifying the data with the taken objective of investigation so that desired goals can be achieved
easily. After making the analysis or interpretations, researcher will be able in constructing the
conclusion in given time-frame.
