TITLE “Toinvestigatetheimpactofglobalisationonbusinessactivitiesandfunctionsofan organisation”. A case study onVodafone. INTRODUCTION Globalisation refer as an important process in which ideas, goods and people spread throughout the globe. It is the process of global integration arising from the interchange of world products, views, ideas and many other aspects of culture. In simple term, globalisation introduce to effective processes that maximise world-wide exchanges of culture and national resources (Arshad and et. al., 2014). advances in telecommunication and transportation infrastructure, covering the rise of telegraph and its posterity the internet, all these are identify as a major factors in globalisation, creating further interdependence of cultural and economic activities. For this research project chosen organisation isVodafone which is the British multinations telecommunications conglomerate. This report is divided into different parts which includes, reserch aim/objectives and questions, different types of research methods, literature review, data collection, conclusion and recommendation. Thus, all this are main and formost way for the researcher to easily company each activities of study within given time period. TASK 1 P1 Research proposal that clearly defines a research question or hypothesis, supported by literature review Research proposal is introduce as a formative part of research which includes summary of entire project. In this section, different aspects are includes such as background, aim, objectives, questions, rational and significance of the research. All this are determined as under: Background of the research:Globalisation is given topic for this research which is identify as an essential process by which business or many other enterprise develop global impact or start operating on a global scale (Binder, 2016). Globalisation is a large concept which directly or indirectly impact on business functions. Vodafone decide to trade their goods and services inacross the borders, it is a part of globalisation which influence on function of company in a direct manner. scales. All this are possible with the help of research because without this company can not find out advantages of trading goods and services at international level. Literature review:This is introduce as a part of scholarly paper which includes current knowledge about substantive findings and theoretical contributions to a specific field of study. In addition, literaturereviewisasectionofsecondarysourceanddonotreportoriginal experimental work (Brondoni, 2014). Main purpose of literature review is to demonstrating the author's knowledge and skill about specific topic of research, including theories, vocabulary, phenomena and key variables, and its approach and history. In this section all research objectives and questions are address in appropriate manner which are determined as under: Concept of globalisation According to Williamson, (1998), Globalization is the process of trading across the borders in a way that whole world seems to be a single market. This is the concept in which the world is consuming the same products, reply to the same wave. It helps in increasing the market and area of sales in the world. It seems that ratio of world import to GWP(gross world product) has increases 7% from 1938 to 10% in 1970 and 18% in 1996. This data shows that world is growing in the area of increasing the productivity so that the goods and services across the world can be imported and exported. As soon as globalization exists in the world it changes the scenario of business across the borders. Although the countries which are situated very far from each other also interested in globalization. All this has happened because the natural resources which are at one country required by another also because the needs and demand of humans are same. Thus the formation of market at global level increases because of the increase in demand and supply. Globalization helps an organization in a superior competitive position, lower operating cost etc. This can happened when a foreign company brings new and advanced technology with it and implement that in the domestic market. The implementation of these technology and trends brings the company to provide updated products to their customers. Thus the revenue and sales increases. Changes which are necessary for the upliftment of a company can be collected with the help of globalization. These changes comes with the changing requirement of humans. These requirement arises when humans see other countries to provide better options for its customers. A competitive environment creates with the help of globalization thus quality product is delivered to the customers. 3
The influence of globalisation in increasing trade across borders of goods and services. According to Pologeorgis, (2017), the use of globalization started when people settled in different parts of the world. This increases their needs and demands when they know about other countries which are also consuming the same. Thus cross border trade increases drastically from the past of humans. There is also a main reason behind the increase in globalization which is FDI. As soon as the developed countries stared to know the importance of globalization they stared the new concept FDI (Foreign Direct Investment). In this concept, a country which wants other country's company to invest in its own country, opens the gate of FDI which helps the company to invest in that country. This results in the increase in manufacturing sector, employment, technology and growth in GDP. Globalization also increases with the help of ease of doing business. Till now, most of the countries are engaging themselves in the world of globalization and a huge number of countries wants themselves to be in this global trade. This results in the increasing market of globalization. Ease of doing business is also an important factor of increase in world trade. A company wants to establish its business where the chances of survival of business are more. These chances are created by the ruling government of country in which business is going to establish. Government makes the policies, if they are easy for a business than investment attracts and otherwise not. Thus Globalization is directly proportional to the framework of policies made by government. Globalization is also important of the development of a company. This is happened with the involvement a foreign company in domestic market. This involvement brings technology, skilledworkers, newmanagementstylesandotheraspectswhicharenecessaryforthe development of a company. This technology is used by the domestic company with the help of Acquisition and Mergers, Joint venture etc. When two companies are involving on a single task than the technology, new ideas and trends are shared among themselves. This help the country in whichforeignbusinessisrunning, inawayofincreasingemployment,GDP,Human development, Per capita income etc. The influence of globalization increases interconnectedness, maintaining competitiveness, technology and efficiency etc. Different ways through which Vodafone can easily expand their business operations globally. According to Kenton, (2018), there are many ways through which Vodafone can enter into the global market and thus starts its business globally. These ways are explained below: Strategic Alliance: 4
It is the first way of expanding the business in global market to Vodafone. In this way step of increasing sales two companies signed an alliance between them to share the resources to undertake a specific mutually beneficial project. This type of expansion of business is less stable as compared to Joint Venture because in joint venture the companies are liable to share the resources by making a new independent entity. This type of alliance is gradually helpful for the companies to move forward on the path of same goal. This alliance helps both the companies in long and short term goals. The agreement can be formal or informal but the responsibilities of each company must be specific. The duration of agreement can be short term and long term which depends upon the needs and goals of Vodafone and other company. Joint Venture: This is the most important way of investing in other countries of Vodafone. Since, the company is operating its business in telecom sector which requires a lot of funds to set a new start of business in other country. Vodafone has to acquire spectrum of that country, it should hire staff, it should install the mobile towers etc. All these resources requires a lot of money therefore its is a great option for the company like Vodafone to start its business in new country. In Joint Venture, Vodafone has to make partnership with other company. This will surely decrease the investment of Vodafone in other country. The company when makes a new joint venture with other company than the resources of that company are utilised by Vodafone. This is the basic profit Vodafone will gain form other company. The company in which Vodafone is investing will take the technology into its business premise. Since Vodafone is a big name in the field of telecom sector, thus having a joint venture with this company will leads to increase in market share, advancement of technology and increase in profit share are the benefits to the company. Merger and Acquisition: It is known as different financial transactions which comes under two parties of business. A company which has a lot of money can undertake other company by putting pressure of its wealth. The financial transactions include different transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, consolidations, tender offers, purchase of assets, management acquisition etc. In this type of alliance there are two terms such as mergers and acquisition. Mergers is all about the term in which the acquired company is totally merged with the acquiring company. In this case, the stake of acquired company are now become the stake of 5

acquiring company. The name brand and others things all have been merged in acquiring company. In case of Vodafone, the company can acquire other company by providing the funds. In other case such as Acquisition, the acquiring company purchased the maximum share within the acquired firm but the name and brand value remains the same as before. In case of Vodafone, it has to invest less as compared with the merger. Role of globalisation for enhancing marketing activities. According to....., there are some benefits of globalization through which it affects positively the market of country in which business is operating. The benefits of globalization include Foreign direct investment, Technology, Skilled workforce, GDP growth rate etc. All these factors are helpful in boosting the market. With the help of FDI, the foreign companies such as Vodafone attracts towards other countries to invest. This will create the job opportunities and enhance the market by investing in growth of GDP. When the growth rate increases this will positively affect the activities of market. Apart form that, technology also impacts the working strategy of market. When new and advanced technology inserts into market, this will influence the working of labour which speed the progress of market and thus economy boosts. When skilled workforce inserts into market the era into market creates which helps in creating a lot of opportunities for the young entrepreneurs. Globalization also brings high growth rate of the country with the help of increasing GDP rate. When investment increases, the GDP increases which results into the increase in economy of the country. P2 Research methods and conduct primary and secondary research There are basically two types of research such as Primary and secondary which is used by the researcher to collect accurate amount of information (Clarke, 2013). In case of primary research, collecting information is first hand or new which is applied for gathering appropriate data from the respondents. Both method are determined as under: Primary research:Primary information can be gathered from internal or external sources. For example: the company can interviews its own workers or it may accumulate external information via survey and questionnaires. In order to collect such type of information, researcher will prepare a questionnaire which will highly essential by providing relevant data about the topic. Secondary research: It is also called as desk research is the collation, analysis and assembly of present or second-hand marketing information (Cleden, 2017). For collecting such 6
type of information, there are various sources available for the researcher such as books, magazines, journals, articles etc. All these sources are highly essential and useful for the investigator to accumulate proper data about the field of study. Research methods:There are different types of research method such as research design, research approach, philosophies etc. All this are determined with the use of research onion framework. It is most useful model for describing research method and includes different layers which are shown as under: Research is long term process, there are many activities which has to be considered in order to collect relevant and correct information. There are different techniques which has to be considered by researcher which is relevant for getting positive outcome and achieving aims and objectives of research (Dubois, Copus and Hedström, 2012). There are different aspects which has to covered while conducting research such as research philosophy, research approach, etc. this can be understood with the help of research onion which is discussed as under in detail- Research philosophy- This is the outer most layer in research onion which talks set of beliefs and its nature on which investigation is done while conducting research. Research philosophy can be performed with the help of pragmatism, interpretivist and positivist . With the help of research philosophy, it is clear to take actions which are important to give justified reason to conduct research. In this research pragmatist research philosophy is used (Forsgren and Johanson, 2014). This is relevant because it is easy to analyse aspects for performing operations of globalisation. pragmatism research is new as compared to others measures but it is easy to give recommendation over it because deep analysis can be possible. Research approach- This is the next layer after research philosophy. There are two methods for research approach i.e. deductive and inductive approach. In this research deductive approach is used because this is the part of different aspects which is important and relevant for enhancing knowledge about relevant topic of research. With the help of deductive approach, observation can be analysed which is used to achieve research aims and objectives. As in this research, there is appropriate questionnaire, so with this approach, it is easy to analyse recommendation and achieve aims and objectives. Research strategy- research strategy is the way to analyse research topic with the help of case study approach. Research strategy can be conducted with the help of experiment, survey, case study, action research , etc. In this research, case study approach is used because this is the 7
most suitable technique with questionnaire (Hillson and Murray-Webster, 2017). With the help of case study, in- depth and relevant information can be collected which is essential for attaining aims and objectives of research. Research choice- This is the next layer after research approach. There are two methods of research choice i.e. qualitative and quantitative. Quantitative research method is based on scientific facts and numerical data (Hillson, 2017). While qualitative research is based on facts and graphical data. In this research, qualitative research method is used because this is best methodwhichissuitablewithprimaryresearch.Thismethodprovidetrueandcorrect information because interpretation is based on it. Time Horizon-Time Horizon is next layer in research onion which provides knowledge about time to complete research. There are two methods for time horizon i.e. cross sectional and longitudinal. In this research, cross section is used because this is method which focuses on current situation off working. Hence this is more relevant to know progress rate of research (Hoffmann and Kumar, 2013). This project is completed within specified time with the help of team mates and proper knowledge about research topic. 8

Research instruments- This is the last stage in research onion which talks about different techniques to conduct research. Mainly there are two methods which are used to collect data i.e. primary and secondary research. In this research, primary data collection method is used. Data is collected with the help of questionnaire (Hughes and Kitson, 2012). There are some set of questionsregardingglobalisationaskedwithemployeesworkinginorganisation. This questionnaire is structured form, sitiseasy for respondentstop understand concept of conducting research. Primary and secondary research identify as a method of collecting information about the field of study. There are different appropriate methods of primary and secondary which are determined as under: Primary method:There are some instrument under primary research which are determined as under: Questionnaire: This is a part of primary research which is based on written list of questions and answered by different people in order to give data for a survey or report. It is a most essential and useful instrument of collecting proper information about the study. Interview:This isidentify as an effective process and in which interviewee and interviewee play vital role. A research interview involves an interviewer, who manages the activity of conversation and asks related questions (Jeston, 2014). In this process, an interviewee give their response to those questions. Thus, it is an appropriate and useful method when there is a requirement to accumulate in-depth data on respondent's thoughts, opinion, feelings and experience. Therefore, both questionnaire and interview are useful method of primary research for collecting accurate amount of the data (Kendrick, 2015). According to the research topic, questionnaire is more appropriate and suitable for the researcher to collect exert amount of information. It is a cost efficient instrument as compare to interview. Secondary method:There are also different sources used by the researcher to accumulate accurate data about the research topic. For this, different number of books and journals are used by an investigator to collect proper amount of information according to the field of study. 10
Alternative method of data source is secondary source (Mihajlović and Krželj–Čolović, 2014). This is the way to collect data from online source, books, journals, etc. which is related to topic. It there are possibilities of old and irrelevant data collected from large number of respondents. Research sampling- There is requirement of some respondents which provides their views on relevant topic. While conducting this research, data is collected with random sampling. This method is preferable because there are less possibilities of favouritism and data is free from biasses (Muller, 2017). Simple size for this research project is 40 and this is selected on the basis of random sampling which helps to authentic outcome from research in the form of achieving aims and objectives. Research limitation- Research is time consuming process, hence there are some issues which arise while conducting this research. Some limitations while conducting this research is completion of research project on time. While conducting this research, there is lack of motivation and leadership which affects performing operations by team (Nicholas and Steyn, 2017). Respondents are not interested in reverting by questionnaire so there is problem is collecting and analysing data. There are some questions which are not understood b employees because of lack of awareness about research topic. Research Reliability and Validity- This research is appropriate and reliable. All the facts and figures are authentic. Team mates collect data from respondents and in case they are not able to understand questions, then proper knowledge and understanding provided to them to collect relevant and authentic data (Peppers and Rogers, 2016). Collection of data is crucial because interpretation is based it. Data analysis is done after proper communication and cross checked in order to give proper and relevant information about research topic. TASK 2 P3 Primary and secondary research using appropriate methods for a business research project Research Ethics- While conducting this research, there is use of relevant method to collect information and data is used for legal and authentic purpose. There is no illegal use of information provided by employees. Hence this research is conducted under proper codes and ethics. Information which is used to conduct research is confidential and does not share with external parties. 11

This statement is agreed by 33 out of 40 respondents and rest of the population not agreed as per the same. TASK 3 P5 Research outcomes in an appropriate manner Globalization is the process of making the world as a single market. This process starts when the humans are well settled in almost all the area of world. The humans required the product and services form other countries because needs and wants of humans are same. When globalization started it becomes the need of human because the market of whole world is dependable over globalization (Wirtz, Tuzovic and Ehret, 2015). In today's era, most of the developed countries are using globalization but still there are many countries which are going to start the process. This will make the whole world as a single market. In future times the humans will be dependable on the global market. The impact of globalization increases the cross border trade because the countries which are not neighbours also traded according to their need. Globalization brings FDI, Technology, increase in GDP growth rate etc. which are helpful in the development of an economy as well. FDI helps in investing new technology skilled workforce etc. thus funds are contributed in the growth rate of GDP. The impact of GDP also affects positively the developing index of human. In the developed countries the policies of 22
government are good as compared to other countries. These policies attracts companies of other countries to make their business. Therefore to make development in a country the business is very much necessary. For starting a business globalization plays an important role. Apart from the above concept of globalization, there are several ways also through which Vodafone can invest in the global market, the steps include, strategic alliance, mergers and acquisition and joint venture. In strategic alliance the acquiring company and the acquired company contract between them and are agreed to share their resources. The bonding between these companies are not strong, it can be a period of short or long term (Arshad and et. al., 2014). The bonding between two companies can also be done with the help of mergers and acquisition. In merger, the acquiring company acquire the other company in it. By which the name and all departments, funds etc. are controlled with the name of acquiring company. Acquisition is the sharing of resources with one another without changing the name of acquiring company. In case of Joint Venture, Vodafone can easily enters the market of global business because it can invest into global market by just started its business with the other company which is operating already in this field in the same country. In the end, globalization also helps the domestic market of the company because it brings many positives with it such as technology advancement, GDP growth rate, new trends, increase in per capita income etc. With the help of these positives the domestic market of that country will get a huge boost. Apart from the domestic market, the impact of globalization also takes the world into get wealth and prosperity. Globalization enhances the business culture thus it always pays positives for the domestic market and international market. TASK 4 P6 Effectiveness of research methods applied for meeting objectives Research methodology plays an important role in the development of a research. It provides options for a researcher to gather and collect the data which is required to conduct a research (Binder, 2016). There are various methods to collect the data such as primary or secondary but in this research methodology primary data is collected through the use of questionnaire. The questionnaire should be close ended such that it will not confuse the respondent to answer the questions. The questions should be specific on the aims and objectives of the research otherwise research will not remain valid. In case of secondary data, the data is 23

collected through the use of books, magazines, journals etc. This will also help the researcher to gainadvanceknowledgewhichisuniversalinnature.Whileconductingtheresearch, questionnaire is the best approach for the researcher because it provides live and relevant data which has a great importance in research (Boyle, 2017). The effectiveness of questionnaire is important because it provides current and accurate data to the researcher. The respondent which are selected should know about the topic of research. Thus it helps the researcher to collect the perception of respondents so that the research can be more effective. P7 Alternative research methodologies Therearetwomethodsthroughwhichprimarydatacanbecollectedsuchas questionnaire and interviews. The process of interview is also used to collect the data of primary research. There are two persons who are engaged in this step one is interviewer who conducts the interview and asks the questions and other is the interviewee who relies about those questions. The interviews are used to collect the data in which an interviewee's deep perception, feeling, experience,thoughts,opinionsareconsidered(BoutrosandPurdie,2014).Although questionnaire is best suitable fort this research because there is no requirement of deep thoughts of interviewee because there is only close ended questions which are required to collect the primary data. The questionnaire should be well close ended so that it collects the data only which is required by the researcher. This is the benefit of questionnaire that it only collects the desirable data. The main advantage of questionnaire is that a large number of people can be reached with the help of it relatively economically and easily. This type of data also helpful in making standardized and statistical data. Apart form that, it is also easier for the respondent to reply because the questions are close ended in which it has to choose one form the options. CONCLUSION From the above mentioned information, it can be concluded that globalisation is essential concept for the company to increasetheir tradesof services internationally. Asper the information found in questionnaire, more than half of the population are aware about the concept and benefits of globalisation.
