Introduction
Research background
In the modern world students prefer to study abroad so that they can get a higher
degree and can get better job opportunities. As pointed out by Abbott and Silles (2016) this
can be attributed to the fact that perception for a proper scope in the international market is
high due to the opportunities provided. At the same time, research has shown that students
from China and India form the maximum number of international students in the educational
sector. In this regard, as stated by Kaushal and Lanati (2019) the determinant of international
students across the international borders can be taken into consideration so that an analysis
can be made to understand the factors that help in the migration of international students.
The focus will be on the determinant factors that affect the international student flow
to New Zealand. New Zealand has emerged as one of the countries that have a significant
number of students that enter its markets so that they can gain an opportunity to enhance the
careers. The economic and demographic factors that determine the opportunities provided to
the students are analysed so that a proper understanding can be made about the significance
of the study.
Research problem
The problem that will be addressed in the research includes an understanding of the
determinant of international student flow in New Zealand. The problem that is to be solved in
this case is the factors that determine the choice of New Zealand as a foreign educational
sector can be taken into consideration in the analysis. According to Lanati and Thiele (2019)
the reason behind conducting this research is that in the modern world, the perception of the
people in terms of being educated and gaining job opportunities is high in the foreign

countries. Tsui et al. (2018) is of the opinion that the focus is on New Zealand, due to the low
rate of population.
At the same time, it has been seen that business sectors across New Zealand, have a
capability of providing 32,000 jobs and thus, can be considered as providing the required
opportunity for existence in the country. Thus, the research will focus on the dramatic growth
that can be seen in terms of gaining proper education in New Zealand. Thus, the problem
associated with the research will be attributed to the manner in which international students
flow to New Zealand in terms of gaining proper education.
Definition of key terms
Defining key terms can help in determining the course of the research. The key terms
that will be used for the research includes:
International student flow: This highlights the student migration that takes place,
which can be considered to have a positive as well as a negative impact on a country
depending upon its economic condition. The international student flow is the independent
variable in this case.
Gravity model: A model that is used to identify trade relations between two countries
and the determinant factors that exists in the international economy. In this case, the Gravity
model is the depended variable.

Purpose of the study
The purpose of the study will be to understand the reasons behind the emergence of
student migration and the factors that lead to the migration of students in foreign countries.
Beine et al. (2016) is of the opinion that the reason behind the selection of New Zealand, as
the country of escape is also taken into consideration and based on it factors are related so
that an understanding can be made about the required source of factors required for travelling
in the country. The study will also try to understand the significance that exists with the
research so that an analysis of the determinant factors for New Zealand is taken into
consideration.
Therefore, in this regard, it can be said that for the study to take place in an effective
manner, it is necessary that models related student migration be taken into consideration.
Hence, it can be stated that the purpose of the study will be met if the application of the
model can be implemented in the manner that helps in determining the determinant factors
associated with the international student flow in New Zealand. Thus, it can be observed that
