ABSTRACT
Medical therapies help healthcare professionals in cure and treatment of various physical
and mental disease or disorder. These help in conducting patient support programs effectively and
properly in rural areas.
Aim:

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this research proposal is to propose a future analysis in order to determine
the effectiveness of patient support programs in improvising the medication therapies of patients in
rural areas of India (Glasby, 2012). The following proposal will explain how the background study
and literature review will be conducted. Further it will also explain how different articles for will be
included in inclusion and exclusion criteria, and what types of research methodologies, design and
approach will be selected in order to complete the proposed research study (Heginbotham, 2012).
Of all the global health problems, rural healthcare issues in India has been one of the biggest
challenges that is faced by constitution of India in recent times (Jackson and et.al., 2011). More than
70% of the population in India is living in rural areas with lack of medical facilities. This is greatly
increased the mortality rates due to the prevalence of different types of diseases. The main problem
that is present in healthcare sector is that lack of accessibility and low quality of medical services
have changed the healthcare scenario in a negative aspects (Keeling and et.al., 2013). Due to lack of
quality care provided in maternal sector, India accounts for the highest number of maternal deaths.
Not only in the government areas but the private sector is also very often confined to family
planning and antenatal care. They do not extend their medical and healthcare services to decrease
the cases of complication in labour pain and delivery (Liveng, 2010).
What?
The research proposal is intended to evaluated and investigate the effectiveness of patient
support program (Lloyd and Marjorie, 2010). It will also focus on developing strategies to
improvise the medication therapy of patients in rural areas of India. Lastly it will also focus on
concept of healthcare and management in improvising the medical therapy in patients of India.
How?
To analyse the effectiveness of patient support program systemic review or literature review
of different articles will be conducted so that it is able to provide detailed information about the
healthcare conditions that is existing in rural areas of India (Lu and et.al., 2010). For conducting the
research in an effective and appropriate manner the initial cost will be estimated so that the research
do not crosses its budget. Further in order to avoid limitations and other practical issues related to
research several ethical and practical considerations will be taken into account (McKeown and
et.al., 2011).
Why?
Healthcare issue is one of the most significant problems in rural areas of India due to the
presence of ineffective care and medical services (McSherry and Pearce, 2011). If the health
landscape of India is taken into account it is very clear that 70% of the healthcare services is
provided in urban part of India. The cost of the quality services provided in urban sector is also very

expensive which is not affordable by all the individuals (Morgan, 2013).

Medication Therapies
According to the Volkow and et.al., 2014, “Therapy refers to the remedial treatment of
physical and mental disorder. It is remediation of any kind of health issues with the help of any
diagnosis” (Volkow and et.al., 2014, pp. 2064). Along with this Ratanawongs and et.al., 2013, have
stated that “In the area of medical, therapy is the synonymous with the term treatment (tx or Tx).
These include proper medications, alteration in diets, changes in sleeping habits, enhancement of
exercises, minimisation of stress, etc” (Ratanawongs and et.al., 2013, pp. 213).
On the other hand Maggard-Gibbons and et.al., 2013, have said that “Therapists uses
different therapeutic intervention approaches in conjunction with other therapeutic modalities. It
includes behavioural, cognitive, social, creative, etc modalities which helps in providing proper

et.al., 2011, have found that “With respect to the biological disorder, sometimes it becomes
necessary to control and handle the issue with the help of different medical therapies. People

contrast to it Brown and Bussell, 2011, have argued that “Medical therapies which are used,
handled and controlled by psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, clinical social workers, etc
is called as psychotherapy. It is also called as talking therapy” (Brown and Bussell, 2011, pp. 25).
Patient support programmes (PSP)
Sedjo and Devine, 2011, have concluded that “PSP is a kind of service designed and
developed for direct patient interaction or engagement to help healthcare management to provide
support for their service users” (Sedjo and Devine, 2011, pp. 195). In contrast to it Shamir and
et.al., 2015, have argued that “PSP is a kind of organised and well developed system in which
marketing authorisation holder gathers the information with respect to the use of medical products
and services for the effective and appropriate treatment of service users” (Shamir and et.al., 2015).

should be developed by collecting all the relevant information regarding clients, their needs,
expectations, gaps in existing competitive offerings, environmental considerations and many more.

(Nichols and et.al., 2011, pp.356). In contrast to it Simon and et.al., 2013, have identified that
“Team of healthcare professionals are required to design and develop an effective and successful
program which can deliver expected and desired outcome. Designing and developing includes
strategies for aligning needs with the brand objectives, experienced therapists for developing layout,
relationship marketing for explaining ongoing outreach process, cadence and frequency, etc”
(Simon and et.al., 2013, pp. 289). The author further explained that it is essential to develop
effective connection between all the strategies and processes for getting desired result. All the
obtained data need to be analysed properly with the help of different tools and techniques.

researchers have different opinion toward these programmes which are as follows:

guidance is given to the service users for lowering the risk. These include low cholesterol

Positivism research philosophy will be used in the research because the overall study is
based on objective basis (Reeves and et.al., 2011). It will also help in adhering to factual knowledge
obtained through observation. Further, it assist in concentrating on the facts so that objectives of

the study are met. A positivism philosophy utilises deductive approach whereas inductive approach
is used in interpretivism type of research philosophy. As the research proposal is entirely based on
objective, hence positivism will be used.
Research Protocol
Research protocol is a strategy that is used to conduct systematic review in the research
proposal. (Rasheed, 2013). The the study is intended to be completed using secondary research
methods through selection of various articles. Selection of articles will be based on search key
terms, inclusion and exclusion criteria. As the overall study will be based on secondary method all
the articles which are relevant to the topic will be chosen so that exact information is achieved from
those articles (Reeves and et.al., 2011). The articles will mainly focus on different types of patient
related support programs that can improvise the medication therapy. The articles will also be based
on healthcare and management that is needed to provide effective care services to people present in
rural areas of India (Röthlin, 2013).
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria will help in selecting all those articles which are relevant to the topic of the
research proposal. For better understanding, only those articles will be chosen which are published
in English language (Röthlin, 2013). Search terms and keywords will also be matched with various
articles so that articles related to study are selected. All the articles that are published after 2005 will
only be included in the study.
Exclusion Criteria
Exclusion criteria is one of the most effective methods which helps in excluding all those
research papers which are not supporting objectives of the study. All those articles will not be
selected whose keywords do not match with the search terms table in the research proposal (Daniel
and Sam, 2011). All those articles will also be excluded from the study which are not published in
English language. Further, research paper which are printed before 2005 will also comes under the
exclusion criteria of the study.

participants who are included in the study. The article should also clearly mention all the types of
research paradigms and study which are present in the study (Dey, 2002).
Articles should be selected on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria. The selected
articles should include the medical, family history of the participants and the ethical considerations
should also be taken into account (Krishnaswamy, Sivakumar and Mathirajan, 2009). The
participants who are included in the article should be ensured that their identity and personal
information should be safeguarded throughout the research. After the articles and other information

is selected it will be further reviewed and cited accordingly.
PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) is
considered to be minimum sets of evidence that will be helpful in conducting systematic review and
meta analysis for the studies (Dey, 2002). It is usually beneficial for performing medical research
proposals and dissertation. Further, it will also assist in reviewing various research papers which are
appropriate according to the research aims and objectives. Prisma flow chart for the current research
protocol is described below.
Quality assessment
There are numerous methods which can be implemented in order to assess the quality in
appropriate way. The prevalence of studies can be analysed by subjective and objective
methodologies. The objective and subjective techniques of analysis is based on intrinsic and
extrinsic components of the studies. It also helps in determining the validity and reliability of all the
data which is collected in the research (Krishnaswamy, Sivakumar and Mathirajan, 2009). The data
is analysed of its accuracy and precision because it is very important to collect data which is

accurate and precise in its results. Data in the articles which is not providing expected results
according to the research or study will not be accepted as it may deviate the results. (Preston-Shoot
and Kline, 2012). Whether the research is a primary or secondary it is very important to consider
the ethical consideration so that ethics are appropriately followed.
Ethics for secondary research are different from primary research. As this is research
proposal is based on systematic review of different articles it is very important to rephrase all the
study materials which is present in the research articles (Cassell and Symon, 2006). To avoid the
chances of plagiarism it is important to include proper references and citations where ever it is
necessary. As the information present in those articles is collected by other researchers it should not
be altered. Alterations in the given data may deviate the results from its original outcomes.
CASP tool
This is one of the criteria and tool that will be used to assess the quality of research papers
that will be selected for the particular study (Fiegen, 2010). This also helps in reviewing the
reliability, validity and results of the research in appropriate manner. Various checklist are designed
for applying CASP tool so that it helps in critically analysing research findings systematically.
Data extraction
Selection of proper evidence for literature review is one of the most essential task because if
evidence are not selected wisely than it can directly have an impact on findings of the results. For
completing this research various data extraction methods will be based on reviewing different
aspects of the research paper such as aims, objectives, methods, results, findings and discussion
(Garland and Garland, 2012). After reviewing the aims and objectives of the research articles
different data from the articles will be extracted. Data extraction tool for the proposed study has
been added in appendix 1
Data analysis
Data analysis in any types of study whether case control, cohort or controlled trial should be
able to able to create a bidirectional link between the risk, problem and strategies need to solve the
issue in first place (Cassell and Symon, 2006). In this study the effectiveness of patient support
program will assessed in improvising the medical therapy in rural areas of India. Appropriate
selection of thematic and statistical data can be taken so that research is performed in a convenient
way. SPSS is one of the best tool that can be used in researchers which is able to record all the
statistical data related to the research (Dey, 2002).
Data synthesis
Data synthesis for the proposed study will be conducted on the basis of various research
papers with the help of search strategies and inclusion and exclusion criteria. For successfully
conducting the research more than 25000 articles will be reviewed (Krishnaswamy, Sivakumar and
Mathirajan, 2009). Only relevant articles will be selected rest all the research papers will be

excluded from the research paper.
Limitations
In each and every research there are certain limitations which are likely to affect the quality,
validity and reliability in a negative manner. It is very important to apply different types of
strategies that can reduce down the limitations so that quality is not hampered. Lack of time, cost
and experience are some of the major limitations which can effect the ongoing research. In order to
reduce all the limitations cost should always be fixed before starting a research so that there is a
clear idea of what will be the budget of ongoing study. In order to manage time there should be
proper planning so that all the activities in the overall research is completed within the given given
time period (Preston-Shoot and Kline, 2012). Lack of experience can also decrease the quality of
research because if there is little experience all the data will not be able to be applied which is one
of the reasons which can reduce down the quality. Maintaining all the strategies and standards
according to the research will help in conducting the research with increased quality (Cassell and
Symon, 2006).
CONCLUSION
The overall research proposal has proposed rationale for the ongoing study which will help
in identifying the effectiveness of patient support programs in improvising the medical therapies in
rural areas of India. Further it also included research paradigms, methodologies and various
research designs that will assist in conducting the research in effective manner. The overall
research proposal also focussed on different methods of selection of articles such bas inclusion and
exclusion criteria. All the articles have been chosen for systematic review on the basis of exclusion
and inclusion criteria. Articles which are not published in English language and are not recent were
excluded from the criteria. Ethical considerations were also taken into account as it is very
important to follow the ethics in primary and secondary research. It helps in avoiding plagiarism
which is not acceptable in any types of research. It also do not allow to change the data parameters
which can alter the results from the original outcomes. Lastly it also considered various practical
considerations based on time and cost effectiveness. This will help in maintaining the cost of the
overall study. Time management will also be assured so that the ongoing research is completed in
expected time period.
