RESEARCH TOPIC: Why is suicide on the rise for children and young people living in
England and Wales?
1.1 Formulate and record possible research project outline specification
Overview of topic
Suicide is enactment of deliberately causing one's own death. Some suicides are self-
generated acts due to financial difficulties, stress, bullying or troubles with relationship with
family or friends that put pressure on person and drive to commit suicide. Effective suicide
prevention efforts consider limiting way to methods of suicide such as drugs, firearms and
poisons. This report is based on suicide acts which are frequently conducted in England and
Wales. It explains the meaning and impact of suicide on communities and societies. Furthermore,
this study will clarify the reason of increasing suicidal attempt for young people and children in
both countries. It also justifies the best recommendation for reducing the increase trend of
suicide among both young and children.
Aim
To analyse the reason behind increasing suicide for children and young people: A study on
England and Wales”.
Objectives
To study the impact of suicide on society.
To analyse the reasons for increasing suicidal attempt in children and young people in
England and Wales.
To recommend ways to reduce the increasing trend for suicide among young people and
children.
Questions
Why is suicide on the rise for children and young people living in England and Wales?
Rationale
During study period, 145 suicides in younger people are noticed more than 20 years that
show how many people took their lives intentionally. In England between 1 Jan, 2014 and 30
April 2015 children and young people younger than 20 years are died and commit suicide. Rising

trend for suicide in England and Wales are the reason for conducting this research that highlight
this particular issues in counties. Thus, increasing issues in society
1.2 Factors that contribute to process of research project selection
Increasing trend of suicide among children and young people in England and Wales due
to academic pressure are the factor of choosing this topic. Academic and personal purpose are
the reason for selecting this research project that give knowledge about suicide attempt and
reason behind it.
1.3 Undertake a Critical review of key references
According to Hesdorffer, 2016, suicide is the act of deliberately causing individual's own
death, due to mental disorders, involved bipolar disorder, depression, personality disorders
including alcoholism. Alcoholism is one the biggest risk factors and also known as alcohol use
disorder. It is a huge term for any drinker of alcohol that effect in physical and mental health
issues. In other words suicide is the act of killing themselves intentionally in which person know
about this activity they do not get pressure by others. In England and Wales suicide trend get rise
faster and most of the children and young people attempt it. When someone dies by suicide,
their loved ones, family and entire society are often changed forever. It impacts on society for
long term period where people get think about suicide and this will make them ill and they get
depressed due to suicide attempt in England and Wales. The society impacted dramatically and
most of the people who are closed to that person who commit suicide. It is significant public
health concern with widespread impact on society. The people of heard about suicide they give
their reaction and continually think regarding it that put pressure on their thoughts and make
them depressed.
Reason for increasing suicidal attempt for children and young people
According to view of Kiss, 2015 approximately 90% of people commit suicide suffering
form mental illness. In England and Wales, 67% of teenage committed suicides due to
depression and mental instability. last year, 187 under 19s killed themselves as compared with
162 the year before a rise of 15%. In study period 145 children and young people in England
were suicides and try to took their lives for the reason of high study pressure from family. Benzi,
(2018) said that events such as abuse, bereavement, self harm, academic pressure and mental ill
healthy are the reason for increasing suicide act for children and young people in country.

Unfortunately young people attempt suicide due to mental instability which occur by not getting
resources that they need to continue living. Lack of maturity among young people and children
are the main reason behind committing suicide.
Recommendations for reducing suicide attempt
According to Cluver, 2015 behind depressive disorder, substance abuse ranks as second
high risk factor for suicide in which people intentionally kills themselves. Thus, to reduce trend
of suicidal attempt for children and young people, family should understand the needs and
feeling to teenage. They must try to make them comfortable that positively impact on its mental
ability and children likely to share its feeling with family or friends easily. Thus, to reduce it
younger must take treatment that are prescribed in light of implicit in addition to preventing of
suicidal acts and thoughts.
1.4 Produce research project specification provide appropriate plan and procedures for agreed
research specification
Research philosophy- Research philosophy deals with nature, development and source
of knowledge. In another term research philosophy is belief about ways in which
information about phenomenon must be gathered used and analysed. Research
philosophy in research project involves being formulating and aware beliefs and
assumptions of researcher. Positivism, realism and interpretivism are the types of
research philosophy (Mackey and Gass, 2015). Interpretative method are using by the
researcher in this research project that will help to collect all the relevant data about the
topic. Interpretative is different from the other techniques of research philosophy.
Research approach- Research approach is procedure of data collection that allows for
greater flexibility than in quantitative research. It divided into tow types- Deductive and
inductive research approach both help in completing report. Deductive approach is taken
up with developing a hypothesis base on theory and design a research scheme to test
hypothesis. Inductive approach is begun with observations and proposed towards the end
of research procedure as result of observations.
Data collection- Collecting relevant data about the topic and for completing research is
very important part. It is the process of measuring and gathering information on variables
of internet. Secondary and primary are two types of data collection categories that help in
the research. Secondary data is a kind of information that already has been promulgated

in newspapers, books, magazine, online portals etc. This type of data collection will be
used in this report that help to provide all the informations about the research topic that
has been conducted by researcher.
Data analysis- Data analysis is procedure of transforming and collecting data with aim of
discovering needed information. It involves identifying communal patterns with in
responding and critically examining research in order to achieve researcher objectives
and aims. In this report, researcher is using qualitative research method that help to gain
desired goal and objectives. So results give in positive and better outcomes, observation
and interviews are the types of this research (Jamshed, 2014). Qualitative refers to notes,
video, images etc. documents that is very useful in the process of gathering information
about research.
Ethical consideration- It will be specified as one of the most essential parts of research.
It helps to find out the difference between unacceptable and acceptable behaviour. It will
help in the process of data protection which is based on ethical consideration(Bauer,
2014). They have to follow all the principles of ethical consideration that help to
accomplish research successfully. In order to address this aspect of this research in
effective way, researcher need to adopt each stages. They should maintain high level of
objectivity in discussion and identify throughout the research. Without permission
researcher do not include any information about people. Their participation would not be
harm anyone in any ways that is one of the most important point. Investigator must give
priority and respect for dignity of investigation participants. They need to avoid any
exaggeration and deception about the objectives and aims of this research. Any kind of
communication in related to this research must be done with transparency and honesty by
researcher.

CONCLUSION
This project is discussed about the rise of suicide in England and Wales among children
and young people. It has been concluded that suicide is one of the dangerous act that attempt by
the person intentionally which make impact on society. Mental illness, alcoholic nature and
academic pressure are the reason behind committing suicide. This research project discuss that
suicide mostly effects on people health and metal ability which make them ill. Research
philosophy, researcher approach, data collection and other things are the methods of research
methodology that help in research project. Family support and medical treatments is one of the
best techniques that support in the procedure of reducing suicide attempt among children.
