INTRODUCTION
The use of the social networks is increasing day by day among the students of Higher
Education and the institutions. The HE students make use of various forms of social media such
as social networking sites, digital media, blogs, virtual communities and the instant messaging
(Alt, 2018). They use the most prominent platform Facebook which helps in creating and sharing
content, establish relationships and also enable the connectivity and collaboration without
considering the geographical location. The HE students use these platforms for enhance their
learning as well as gaining the exposure. These platforms are used by the students in HE in
different contexts such as writing development, synchronous and asynchronous communication,
language learning, community building etc. (Alamri, Almaiah and Al-Rahmi, 2020). It provides
a unique platform to interact with the teachers. This becomes easy for the students in
communicating, accessing the information and also in providing the information. The student-
student and the student-teacher interaction became much easier by the use of social media
platforms. Adequate trainings are provided to the students through the same which provides
opportunities to the students to enhance their knowledge and skills and also increases their
confidence. The studies and the learning which were confined to the classrooms are extended to
the social media platforms which not only helped the students to become the mere absorbers but
also become contributors and co-producers.
DESCRIPTION OF THE LITERATURE AND DATA
Literature is basically the written works including the books, journals and the other
publications especially which are creative and have artistic merit and long lasting value. There
are various sources to find the information and gain deeper insights. These can be primary and
secondary. Secondary sources will be used to gain in-depth insights regarding the use of social
media by the higher education students. The secondary sources used for gaining sufficient
information about this topic included the books, journals, articles, different publications, blogs,
online websites, conference papers etc. These sources help in collecting the views and opinions
of various authors and publishers and also help in collecting the scholarly writings on the topic.
These also include the dissertations, conference papers and also the peer reviewed articles. In
order to research about the topic which is the use of social media by HE students the major
works are included which can prove to be valuable (Manca and Whitworth, 2018). The
