ABSTRACT
There are worldwide environmental concerns in the present state. There have been
establishments of various movements or campaigns to enhance environmental awareness to the
members of the public. The cases of Hongkong have never been treated as being special or
exception in such cases. In this particular study there is evaluation of the effectiveness of the
implementation of the aspects of green building towards cost reduction in the context of
Hongkong. The focus on the attitude of the occupants was considered due to the fact that they are
familiar with the structures which they occupy. According to this study, there is revelation of the
environmental awareness which is confirmed to be very strong despite the fact that the processes
of evolution are in the embryonic stages. From the perspectives of the occupants of Yeu Shing
building, the features of the green building are relatively beneficial.

INTRODUCTION
The greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere as claimed by the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC) are enough to create a change in the climatic condition of the ecosystem.
The IPCC has set standards to ensure reduction of environmental pollution, and therefore,
attempts have been made by countries to lower their levels of emitting carbon gases to comply
with the set standards as they carry out their processing and manufacturing activities. Records
state that large volumes result from the construction industries compared to other industries. The
set standards and designs for the green building to enhance energy operation of the building
alongside the represented energy efficacies, and reduce the amounts of wastes and used
energy(Steinemann Wargocki and Rismanchi 2017).
Adopting green building as a construction technique may make it possible to easily attain a
sustainable construction within industries. And for this sustainability, construction industries
within the past few years have made attempts to adopt the practice of green building. It is all
concerned with efficiency of the resources, performance of the structure, as well as the impacts
of its stages. Smart structures with the systems of integrated building technology as the core are
mainly of concern to efficient operation and construction as well as improved management and
activities of the residents. “Green” building or Sustainable construction and systems of integrated
building technology greatly differ from one another in terms of commodities (Chegut, Eichholtz
and Kok 2014).

There is rapid development in green buildings facilitated by factors like the advancing problems
within the environment, a relentless increase in the demand for quality environment, initiation
and progress of the different techniques of green building, continuous usage of supplementing
“evaluation mechanism of green building” alongside supportive rules and policies. It is of
common knowledge that green building is the basic idea and the actual motives for the
development of green building, a bearable concept of development, and mainly highlights the
acclimation to the environmental states, issues and times (Dwaikat and Ali 2016).
It is however sorry to say that the concept of green building implementation in the sector of
agriculture including storage of forage, livestock barns and greenhouse still remain low. Similar
techniques used by green building were implemented by different studies which however did not
attain the core of the concept or either full address of this concept as well. The main aim of this
paper therefore is to introduce to the agricultural sector the concept of green building alongside
the associated features together with the distinct aspects of economy, engineering and
environment. The paper summarizes by a discussion on the likelihood of merging the two
concepts, i.e., agriculture and green building.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
In order for this research work to become a success, the following research objectives were laid:
i. To have a comprehensive introduction of the “green building” concept
ii. To objectively review “green building” situation in Hongkong
iii. To analyze the expected results from the structures considered as “green buildings”
iv. To properly evaluate green building performance in the context of Hongkong
v. To gather as well as evaluate the attitudes of occupants towards green building.
