Within this, there was a subgroupof 4.2 million Americans who had reportedexperiencing of symptoms in the past yearwhich qualified them as having the cannabisuse disorder (NCBI, 2017). The reason whycannabis or marijuana is deemed as problemdrug for the purpose of this study stemsfrom the negative effects of it. To establishthis point, the deaths related to drug poisingfrom 1993 to 2016 in England and Waleshas been presented below. The risingnumber of deaths is evidence that there is aneed to curb the use of drugs, particularlymarijuana, if the untimely deaths of theindividuals in England and Wales have to beensured. Drugdependence and drug use are the leadingcauses in premature mortality, where 16%deaths in the individuals in their 20s and 30sin 2016 due to drug poisoning. Drugpoisoning covers broad spectrum ofsubstances, which include both lawful andunlawful drugs, over the countermedications and prescription type drugs(Office for National Statistics, 2017b). 2.2.What criminologicalrelevance does this topichave?The use of drug is associated with criminalactivities. It not only impacts the health ofthe person using the drugs, but also has animpact on their friends, family and thesociety (Barnard, 2007). To affirm this withthe help of data from US, 80% of theoffenders in the prison of the nation are drugor alcohol users; 50% if the prison and jailinmates are clinically addicted; and nearly60% of the individuals who are arrested forcrimes test positive for unlawful drugs attheir arrest (NCADD, 2015). 3.Concise analysis of theissue and suggestions forchange3.1.What are the widerimplications of this issue?The reason why this study has beenundertaken is to present evidence againstdrug use, particularly in context of thedifferent nations legalizing the use ofcannabis.
