Executive Summary
I selected the Lizard Island Resort for my research which is located in the north of
Australia. During my pre-visit, I viewed the website where I found amazing information about
the resort. The ownership, products, and services, as well as social media, are included on the
website. During my actual visit, I explored the resort’s management structure, processes, and
relations with the local people. Clearly, to run a resort an individual requires various types of
licenses as discussed in this paper. Finally, during the post-visit, I compared the information
obtained from the website with the actual experience. However, there was not much difference
hence I recommend visitors to use the resort’s site in case they seek to know about the Lizard
Island Resort.

RESORT AND SPA MANAGEMENT 4
Introduction
A resort is referred as an alienated place which is self-contained and is commercially
established. This implies that the place seeks to offer most vocational needs of visitors such as
lodging, drinks, foods, and sports (Lo, Wu & Tsai, 2015). I selected Lizard Island Resort, which
I visited to conduct my research. Lizard Island Resort is located on the Northern side of Australia
at the right of Great Barrier Reef and the twenty-four white beaches. This resort has won
prestigious international and national awards for performing in excellence. It offers opportunities
for diving and has coral gardens which hold tropical fish (Kasim, Gursoy, Okumus & Wong,
2014). There are beaches which are secluded where visitors go for a picnic. Visitors enjoy
fishing, bushwalking, boat trips, sailing, relaxing, and indulge in other activities in the serenity.
Lizard Island Resort contains many pleasures such as the dining, a creative, and fresh menu. This
resort showcases the local products and includes the fresh seafood on the menu. Finally, Lizard
Island Resort has forty villas which are spacious and offers a wide view of the ocean and
beaches.
Pre-visit
During my pre-visit, I visited the Lizard Island Resort website and found out about
various things such as ownership, products, services, social media, as well as the customer
feedback. Based on the ownership, this resort was publicly owned by a group of Dingaal
Aboriginal persons who used to live in this area some thousands of years back (Kupriyanova,
Sun, Ten Hove, Wong & Rouse, 2015). The local people call the Lizard Island Resort Jiigurru.
This island embraces the lifestyles of the aboriginal people and it is used for various cultural

events such as initiation. Due to the rich heritage of the Lizard Island Resort, it was considered to
be a National Park by the Australian government in 1937.
Lizard Island Resort offers standard products and services to keep visitors interested and
attract others. This resort offers all types of foods and beverages which are made by highly
trained chefs (McLeod, McCormick, Munday, Clark, Wenger, Brooker & Jones, 2015). It also
partners with the leading vineyards. There is a restaurant called Salt Water within this resort
where visitors are served with breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Services for picnic hampers are
offered which allows visitors to experience luxury in the Lizard Island Resort. Moreover, there is
a Degustation dining in the beachside where visitors enjoy viewing the nightly sunsets. Finally,
there is a Driftwood Bar where visitors can enjoy pre-drinks as they interact with others.
Lizard Island Resort uses various social media outlets to communicate with the
customers. For instance, it has a Facebook page, Linked In, Google, E-mail, and Tweeter where
visitors can find menu concerning meals and drinks offered at the resort (Saunders, Bayraktarov,
Roelfsema, Leon, Samper-Villarreal, Phinn & Mumby, 2015). In addition, visitors can use the
social media to platforms to ask questions about the products and services in the resort. Finally,
Lizard Island Resort has a website which displays all relevant information concerning the resort.
Based on the customer feedback, the resort has set a high competitive advantage
compared to other resorts. Due to the heritage and pleasures of the resort, the customers seem
satisfied and more keep visiting than in other resorts in the area (Frith, Leis & Goldman, 2011).
Stephplayaa left a positive review after honeymoon treat at the resort’s website by indicating that
the experience was magical. Another reviewer complained negatively concerning bad treatment
during a holiday at the Southern Ocean Lodge. However, in appraising the differences of the two

reviews, it is clear that the second reviewer had a small misunderstanding with the chef but
however, they had fun for the rest of the time in the resort.
Actual Visit
Lizard Island Resort has a management structure which protects the processes, cultural,
and natural values. The management recognizes the benefits of the resort to the aboriginal
owners (Authority, 2014). The resort is managed by people who enhance collaborative
associations. The management is large and it entails partners such as the QPWS and the
aboriginal people. There are stakeholders who include tourism operators and other researchers.
Lizard Island Resort has sustainable processes which facilitate standard customer service
experiences. The processes are stable to help in addressing challenges faced by the management
team and ensure customers receive maximum satisfaction. In addition, effective communication
is facilitated in the resort to ensure that the staff and the customers work closely (Pierce, 2016).
The business processes focus on the quality of the products and services which must be labeled
to show that they are delivered from the Lizard Island Resort. Moreover, the processes are
established to inspect the foods and drinks to ensure they are safe for customer’s consumption.
These processes at Lizard Island Resort have various associations with the local
community. For instance, it adopts the processes, culture, and natural values of the people in the
society. Therefore, this resort is seen to conserve the values and also feature the individual
lifestyles such as foods and drinks (Berents, 2003). The people in the local region are informed
with the vital information concerning the resort as well as the outlined policies and procedures.
The management operates closely with the local people to ensure that they have a complete
understanding of the resort’s products and services (Leon, Phinn, Hamylton & Saunders, 2013).

Also, the local people are protected as the government offers a safe and secure environment for
the visitors in the resort.
Lizard Island Resort requires three types of licenses to run the business which are tourism
license, business license, and a business permit. The resort is set in a strategic location where
most travelers will seek to relax and have fun (Lizard Island Resort | Delaware North. (n.d).
Therefore, the resort must be billed as a vacation site which offers various services. The licenses
confirm the resort compliance with the city laws and policies. Also, the license and permits can
be sued to check in payments as well as consult concerning tax.
The target markets for Lizard Island Resort are the people who are seeking places to
relax, find exclusivity, enjoy island experience, and who need privacy and have fun. It offers a
room for events such as weddings and people who wish to have fun for their honeymoon.
Persons who are above the age of ten years are allowed to visit this resort.
Post-visit
My first impression during my actual visit at Lizard Island Resort was amazing as I found
the place quite attractive. I adored the foods and beverages as well as the professional chefs. I
must confirm that the food was delicious and the menu appeared really creative. This resort
adopts theories of consumer behavior as they focus on consumer satisfaction (Lizard Island, n.d).
There are attractive white beaches and lizards which are fascinating. The environment is serene
and calm, which is best for persons who seek privacy. Comparing my experience during the
actual visit and the information provided on the website, it is clear that the resort offers accurate
information. Whatever is on the website is what an individual experiences in person once they

visit the resort. I enjoyed the meals and drinks as well as associations with the kind staff and
management team.
Yes, some of the information which I received during my actual visit surprised me as it
was more than what I expected. For instance, the professional chefs who served food in a
presentable way were not included on the website. However, I was amazed at how they offer
quality food at standard prices. The prices were affordable which was different from my
expectations as the place looks attractive and luxurious. In addition, I did not expect that they
offer safe and secure accommodation to the customers who seek to visit the place for holidays or
long durations.
Conclusion
To summarize, Lizard Island Resort is an attractive site with special pleasures. It is
amazing that this resort has won several international and national awards. At the same time, this
resort has 83% positive reviews from the website which shows it is a perfect attraction site.
Various opportunities for diving and fishing are offered. Visitors are encouraged to visit this
resort and discover the secluded white beaches as well as the serenity of the environment. The
significant pleasures of Lizard Island Resort are the dining and a menu which is creative and all-
inclusive. Therefore, from my pre-visit, actual, and post-visit, I would encourage any visitor
seeking for fun, privacy, and a place to relax should try this resort as it is among the highly
ranked and rated five stars.
