3RESOURCE ANALYSIS
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background
The growing globalization of the workplace has impacted the way communication used
to happen in past. Companies are now getting increasingly occupied with millennials. Few
companies have used this trend as the opportunity whereas many others have struggled to be
used to of the trend.
1.2 The problem
There is an evident difference in preferences for communication modes between
millennials and other generational force. Since millennials are more technology-oriented and that
they use a lot of internet for their day-to-day work, it has become a challenge to reach and
engage with them. It is particularly a challenge for companies those that still use the traditional
communication modes (Badea, 2014).
1.3 Purpose of the report
The main purpose of this report is to conduct a resource analysis of the current
communication challenges.
2.0 Discussion
2.1 Increasing Globalization
Increasing globalization has resulted in increased millennials’ participation in the
workforce. To produce a lean workforce, which is a necessity considering the dynamic nature of
a market, it is important that entire resources feel valued by the management and are actively
engaged. An effective communication between management and employees can certainly create

such workforce (Badea, 2014). Coca-Cola sets an example of a company that has a high
employee engagement than most others. The company suggests that though globalization has
produced barriers to an effective employee engagement, it still can be mitigated with strategies
as adopted by the Coca-Cola Company. The company deploys and promotes an open
communication where employees can voice their opinions and become engaged in the decision-
making. The rewarding and development schemes as adopted by Coca-Cola is among the best
globally (The Coca-Cola Company, 2018).
2.2 Millennial Workforce
Millennials are an addict to digital communication on a day-to-day basis. They spend
their significant amount of time on the internet. They are no longer used to of traditional
communication as their ancestors were. To millennials, it is a waste of time to read and carry
newspapers as they now have access to a wide range of popular newspapers with just a keyword
being typed in the search box. With traditional newspapers, they cannot voice their opinions,
which they can easily do with an e-newspaper. Millennials can now converse and get engaged
with employees on a remote network through live sessions on Facebook. It all means that
millennials want to engage and communicate with their buddies in real-time. Now, companies
that follow a traditional business communication model is expected to face the challenge in
relation to employee engagement (Paulin, Ferguson, Jost & Fallu, 2014).
2.3 Internal Communication Challenges
Outdated style: The boardroom-style communication has been in practice for quite a long span
of time. This is also a comfortable way to establish a two-way communication between
management and staffs. However, it is not as suitable to millennials as to other generations.

Millennials possess a stronger flair for informal talks. They want communication to be made
with these channels as these are quicker modes of communication and are very engaging as well.
Leadership: There are still so many leaders who continue or wish to continue with the
traditional model of business communication. Until and unless leaders do not lead from the front
and promote programs to improve internal communication, things won’t change.
Strategy and Monitor: Few managers deploy more than one tools and technologies at one time.
They make it a complex process, which is not really. It is rather advisable to deploy one of the
social media platforms at one time. There is a need to give a bit time to it to help it actually
happen. If the measurement of performance shows a positive output, it must be utilized as an
opportunity to place another effective social media channel in place.
(Macnamara & Zerfass, 2012)
2.4 Employee Engagement
It can be said that companies have no other option than to work on employee
engagement. Those companies that have not so far implemented social media to communicate,
struggle to enhance employee engagement. The fact can be understood from a few examples of
communication glitch being faced by many organizations. Traditional organizational
communication is often time-consuming and does not even make sense on a few occasions. For
example, an e-mail stating congratulatory words to an employee for his excellence may reach
late to him. These are those moments when few motivating words could be used to motivate the
employee. This will be a miss of opportunity due to the existence of an old system of
communication (Linkedin.com, 2018). On contrary to this, social media sites could be used
effectively to utilize such opportunities. Twitter can be used to not just send congratulatory

sentences but also to establish a two-way communication. Facebook can be used to interact with
live videos with the employee and show him the value that his work is to the management.
3.0 Conclusion
Therefore, it can be said that a wide array of social media channels is still out of practice
from a number of organizations. Despite a fact that modern workforce is increasingly becoming
dominated from millennials' participation, there is still minimal focus on boosting the use of
relevant social media platforms. The report has found that employee engagement is important for
an effective communication between management and employees. It is, therefore, a necessity for
firms to start promoting informal talks from social media those that are still to consider social
media to communicate with employees.
4.0 Recommendation(s)
Some recommendations could be implemented to reduce the communication challenges at the
organizational level. These are:
Open communication on various social media resources must be implemented to
influence communication and reduce the challenges of communication.
Rewarding schemes must be implemented to enhance employee engagement.
Congratulatory words or appreciating sentences need to be communicated instantly through
possible means of social media communication.
It is advisable to promote the use of one social media at one time such as the Twitter. It is
not necessary that every single organization fair equally well with the social media
