INTRODUCTION
Hospitality industry is one of the most important industry of service sector. The industry
provides wide range of services such as lodging, food and drinks, cuisine, theme parks, travel
and tourism, event planning and much more. Radisson Blu, an international chain in hospitality
industry, has been founded 59 years ago in the year 1960. The hotel has its headquarter in 3
countries and has ownership of around 380 hotels. The assignment will include assessment of
responsibility of facility manager as well as how these responsibilities could be build up in the
context of operational aspects. Furthermore, an evaluation of quality and effectiveness of facility
operations would be done.
TASK 1
1.1 responsibility of facility manager towards the staff
Facilities management may be defined as a management of support services that are
provided by an organization in order to achieve the organizational objectives effectively and
efficiently(Boella, 2017). There focus is to provide comfort to the customers by creating an
environment that would maximise the satisfaction of the customers so that they visit the hotel
again.
There are two levels of facilities management are they are as follows:
Strategically – tactically: at this level facility manager helps its clients or customers to
understand the potential impact of the decision taken by them with regard to space, services,
business risk and cost.
Operationally – at this stage financial manager ensure that the environment is corporate and cost
effective for the purpose of efficient functioning of the occupants.
Major roles of a facility manager are as follows::
There are numerous roles of financial manager such as to communicate efficiently with
the people as well as to ensure maintenance of physical operations(Atkin and Brooks, 2015).
Apart from that, identification of potential issues that may arise at the workplace and then
making efforts to resolve them.
Major responsibilities of a facility manager are as follows:
The most important responsibility of the facility manager of Radisson Blu is to ensure the
safety and security of the customers. Apart from that, there are various other responsibilities of a
financial manager such as formulation of plans for replacements or repair so that timely

maintenance of business could be ensured. Furthermore, the financial manager has to deal with
the emergency that may arise at any time regarding any purpose.
HR roles including legal issues of HR function are as follows:
The most important human resource function is to hire and retain in the employees in an
organisation(Atkin and Bildsten, 2017). Thus, in order to retain the employees it is essential of
human resource department to keep the employees satisfied and motivated. Further, they are also
responsible for formulation of laws which would foster employee relationship as well as prevent
the company from unnecessary complexities due to government restrictions. This could be done
by the formulation of laws such as Fair Labour Standards Act.

Responsibilities of a facility manager towards:
The most important responsibility of the facility manager towards the operational aspects
of the building is to ensure effective and efficient accessibility of the building. In order to ensure
effective accessibility the facility manager should make sure that timely maintenance and repair
of the building is done. It is essential to maintain and repair the building at regular intervals so
as to increase the durability of the building so that it last for a longer duration of time by
preventing its quality to deteriorate(Ling and Wong, 2016).
Another important operational aspect towards which facility manager of the Radisson Blu
has to focus; is on proper management of mechanical and electrical system. It is very important
ro have proper management of system so as to prevent the employees of the company from any
kinds of hazards that may arise at the workplace. As it is very important for every organization to
ensure the safety and security of its employees. If any organization fails to fulfil its responsibility
then it wont not be able to survive in this competitive environment for a long period as the
company would lose its image.

It is very essential for the facility manager of Radisson Blu to ensure that the best
facilities are provided to the customers so that they visit again. Hence, for this purpose manager
should ensure that the needs of the customers are satisfied to the fullest. This could be done by
fulfilling the wish of the customers and taking due care in case any special requirement of the
customers.

Manager should ensure that best quality of services are provided to the customers so as to
retain the customers for a longer duration of time as well as to attract new customers. This would
further help in the development of the image of the company as people would view the hotel in a
very different manner. They would feel that this hotel is the best as it takes care of the customers
and fulfil their each and every requirement.
1.4 impact on operations of facilities towards the employers and funding agencies.
Facility operations of Radisson Blu are significantly affected by the employers and
funding agencies. Funding agencies play a very important role towards fulfilment of the financial
needs of the hotel such as working capital to run the operations of the hotel effectively and
efficiently(Lopes, 2016). The hotel has to focus on searching big financial agencies as Radisson
Blu is a big hotel and would require huge amount of funds to run its operations which is not
possible to be funded by small agencies. Employers also have a strong impact on the operation of
facilities such as they can make agreements with suppliers to provide them regular and
uninterrupted supplies so as to ensure the smooth running of the business of the hotel without
any interruptions.

4.1 criteria for evaluation of quality and effectiveness of facilities operations
It is very important to measure the quality and effectiveness of the facilities operations
systematically and appropriately in order to achieve the objectives of the hotel
efficiently(Dzhandzhugazova and et.al., 2016). If the facility manager of the Radisson Blu fails
to measure the effectiveness of operations accurately then the hotel would not be able to
maintain its operations efficiently and would somewhere contribute in the deterioration of the
performance of the hotel. On the critical evaluation of the facility operation of Radisson Blu, it
was found that the hotel was very efficient in delivering efficient operational facilities. This was
said on the basis of well-managed system for regulating the performance of the employees and
quality of work. It was found that the employees of the hotel were very well managed as they
maintain proper decorum while working in the organization as well as due care was taken in

terms of proper grooming of the employees. Furthermore, the supply chain of the hotel was
properly managed irrespective of the size as the hotel operates at a global level. It is important to
have efficient management of supply chain as it becomes difficult to have a proper interaction as
the hotel has wide number of chains(Robinson and et.al., 2016). Apart from that, cost of the hotel
is mostly under control which facilitates the hotel in earning huge profit margins. All these have
facilitated the hotel in gaining the competitive advantage over the other companies so as to beat
its competitors and capture and expand its market share.
4.2 evaluation and review of procedures
The reason behind Radisson Blu being one of the most popular hotel of UK is that
management of the hotel is very efficient. They check the quality and outcome of operations on a
regular basis so as to find out the loopholes and take corrective actions so that the company is
able to maintain and grow its shares. Furthermore, lot of efforts and cost is incurred by the hotel
towards the training and development of employees which has contributed in improving the
productivity of the employees and this in turn has fostered the attainment of the objectives of the
hotel effectively and efficiently(Bowie and et.al., 2016).
CONCLUSION
From the above assignment, it has been summarised that there are various roles and
responsibilities of the facility manager. These roles and responsibilities are not only restricted
up-to the staff but they also extend up-to the operational management of the building as well as
towards customers. Results show that major responsibility towards staff was to identify the
issues at the workplace and make emphasis on resolving them. Furthermore, the responsibility
towards customer is to ensure their safety and security and responsibility towards operational
management of building is to take care of maintenance and repair of building to prevent it from
demolition.
