Soccer has always been considered to be the most famous and most view game in the
whole world. It has the maximum number of fans and is view in every part of the globe1.
People have always been enthusiastic while watching any kind soccer game ort league. In
most parts of the world, soccer is known as football. The sports is so famous and wanted by
the audiences that there are a total of six different kinds of leagues that is played in the world.
In essence to it, the game that have always hipped the people and male them wait for four
years is the world cup. The world cup is the world championship of football that is hosted by
the Federation International de Football Association, which is commonly known as FIFA2.
The association was found in the year of 1904 it have been in operation since then. Different
countries around the globe gets the opportunity to host the prestigious league and helps FIFA
in presenting a fabulous game for the people all around globe3. Despite the remarkable brand
name and image that have been acquired by FIFA, the association have been accused of
several misdeeds and there also have been many cases where the purity of the game have
been destroyed and challenged also. Thus, it is important to restore the game back to its
original status. The following essay would be discussing about the various aspects that have
been destroying world cup and the methods for its restoration.

World Cup, which is one of the most notable and famous league in the world was
commenced by FIFA in the year 1930. The association was established in the year of 1904
with the motto of – for the game, for the world. The tournament is hosted every four year
alternate in different countries. The tournament was initially stopped from a period of 1938 to
1950 due to the Second World War4. Despite not being played for 12 years, the tournament
gained back its popularity immediately after it was played again in the year of 1950. The
tournament have been through many changes in the selection and qualification process and
thus, the increase and decrease at the number of teams have been varied. International teams
compete with each other in the tournament to earn the title of world champions5.
In the recent years, there have been many allegations against FIFA regarding the
conduction of games in the tournament and the strategic plans regarding planning the
matches in the game. There have always been huge controversies regarding the group
matches at the group stage. Football enthusiasts always have hunch about the corruption that
have been cooking at the authorities while fixing the group stage matches6.

A total of 32 teams are qualified in the main tournament where the teams are sub-
divided into eight groups. These groups are categorized and formed based on the results of
the qualifying match that is conducted before the beginning of the tournament. Sometime,
due to the performance and goal scored in the qualifying matches some groups become so
strong that the other teams suffer for it. The football fans sometimes criticize this kind of rule.
They claim that this rule of unbiased selection of groups in the match is responsible for
raising many controversies in the tournament7. They feel that their nations sometimes are
made feel that they have been lees power in the host country. Among the groups in the 2018
world cup, it could be seen that one of the group in the tournament had slight advantage from
rest of the seven groups in the tournament. Apparently, the host country Russia was placed in
one of the easiest group in the tournament. The group consisted of countries like Uruguay,
Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. These countries were far too weak in comparison to Russia. The
average FIFA ranking of the group was 43.75 percent, which is considered to be very low in
the cohort of the tournament by a really wide margin. This kind of controversies have led to
any question regarding the authorities at the federation.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation have charged some of the members at the
authority at the FIFA on the felony of spreading corruption and destroying the games purity.
In the year 2015, the federation have to undergo a lot of changes and many allegations due to
the corruption cases that have been raised. Some of the member at the federation were
charged with the case of bribery, money laundering and fraud. They were manipulating the
media fir making the games more attractive and corrupting the marketing right for promoting
the game. It was found that the official at FIFA have been taking bribes from various medias.

For the past 24 years, these officials have been taking a bribe of $150 million8. In the same
year, the United States of America Justice Department launched as case on the basis of the
investigation that was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation that clearly stated
that the 47 incidents have been issued against 34 prominent members clamming that they
have influenced the media and have claimed money from them.
There have been claims the FIFA have been rigged for creating a disputed format of
voting that helped Russia and Qatar being selected for hosting the world cup tournament in
the year 2018 and 20229. The executives at FIFA set a parameter that is used for the selection
of a voting procedure that selects how and when the voting are to be done. However, there
have been claims that maybe these countries maybe bribed the authorities at the FIFA for
rigging the voting pattern, thus selecting these countries as the host for 2018 and 2022-world
cup.
The countries that participate in the world-cup have a sustainable year and also have
huge economic impact to. For participating the world cup, the whole country takes on a verge
of participating in the upgrade of economic growth. The countries try to attract the official of
the federation so that they could get a place in the voting for the selection of the host
country10. Thus for being selected as the host country, the government authorities takes
measurable steps for upgrading the infrastructure of the country and make its environment

impact in their economic system.
The fact could not be denied that the most benefit that is earned by the world-cup
tournament is the host country itself. They gain the maximum amount of benefit and the full
potential of the tournament. The hosting countries gets a makeover in every aspect for
hosting the world cup. The government official spent a huge amount of money for developing
the infrastructure and making new changes in the telecommunication and transportation
system. The government also makes huge changes in the security system for keeping the
official player of the other countries as well as other official members of the countries. This
economic development makes the host country more upgraded in terms of GDP and in terms
of other growth aspect.
From this various kinds of upgrades, the host country enjoys a huge amount of
generation of revenue from the tourism sector. Millions of people come at the host country to
watch the game. Thus, this helps in generating huge amount of revenue. This also helps in
making the country more favorable to the different people in the globe. There is also a huge
impact on the socio-cultural impact on the host country as well as tourist that are visiting the
country11. The cultural of the host country gets a new platform when is spreads with among
ten other cultures. People from around the globe visits the host country. Their cultural aspect

is mixed with the culture and social environment of the host country that helps in spreading
the culture of the host country.
There are also many disputes that is only assessed by the host country. The host
country is responsible for scheduling the games according to their mean time. This leads to
many issues for the other countries that have been participating in the tournament. The other
players are somewhat accustomed with the play times according to their country time. They
have their schedule and their biological clock set as they have practiced. Thus, this kind of
biased timing does not provide good response to the federation itself. The odd timing of
games also have an effect on the public too. All the people of the globe is not capable of
going at the host country and watch the game, they have to watch the game from their
country at the odd timings. This sometimes have created a negative impact against the
federation.
It is said that if some changes in the association were made, FIFA would get more
success than ever by generating more revenue from the game. The structure at the federation
lacks some strategic planning that would help them in making improvements in their
processes. They are somewhat following the age-old systems that was constructed at the
beginning of the world cup it-self. This of selection process would not help them in getting
the desirable profit from the game, which leads to making all the illegal activities that, makes
them fast money. There should also be changes in the structure the tournament. The game
pattern with the group matches is somewhat same as that it was in the beginning 12. The less
number of group matches could not generate the maximum amount of revenue from the
games. The less number of the games have raised a question about getting a return from the

the federation to get access to the desirable amount of profit they want from the matches.
Thus, the structure of the tournament needs to be changed for the restoration of the world
cup.
These changes in the game would help in making the games more attractive and less
accusations form the fans would cloud up on the federation. The system of the federation
have been made many fans angry about the different types of conspiracy and controversies
that happens at the tournament13.
Some of the old fans would be upset if they see changes in the traditional ways of the
world cup. They have been the fan of the tournament for age-old traditional ways that have
not changed from the beginning. The orthodox ways and methods of the tournament have
kept many of the fans intact as they have overlooked at the different flows in the system of
FIFA as they are getting the age old games of the in the same way as it is supposed to be. If
this system is changed, the federation would be some of their aged and old fans.
The Federation should be more responsible in selecting the host countries for the
matches. The 2022 world cup is said to be hosted at Qatar. Authorities should be able to
select the hosting countries more carefully as this kind of extreme weather could affect the
health of the people that would be visiting the country as well as the players that would be

playing. The Middle East is considered to be one of the hottest place on the planet. In this
kind of extreme weather, the players may not be able to perform as well as they should14.
There is trend in the recent hosting procedures at FIFA. They are currently selecting
countries that does not have a strong background or history with football. This is creating a
persona among the fans of the world cup that the federation is losing the grip on the game.
The world cup is becoming biased game as other leagues too.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup was announced to be jointly hosted by the U.S, Canada and
Mexico. It can be said to be a decision that has not taken into consideration any other options
that were available. The hosting of world cup by three different countries can create several
economic, political and management barriers that can affect the tournament. Unique countries
could have been selected in their place, which could have managed the tournament for
effectively.
Moreover, it is the first ever world cup that is being co-hosted by as many as three
countries. This can cause significant disruptions in the management of the tournament. There
have been political hostility between the three countries recently. This could mean that these
countries can back out of the co-hosting agreement in the future, causing significant
problems. It is important to note that despite the step taken by FIFA seems to be very
attractive, it can cause serious issues if faced with calamity.
The 48 team tournament and the newer rules can negatively affect the tournament
making it lengthy. The management of such a tournament can drain much of the finances that

are involved. The new rules can actually make the games less interesting. This can make the
tournament reduce greatly its glamour quotient.
It should be said here that the already concluded world cup in Russia, 2018 faced high
levels of terrorist threats. Moreover, in football there is always the possibility of hooliganism
related violence that take place outside the stadium. International terrorism however, was a
significant issue that could have affected the tournament. These problems made the games to
be held in very vulnerable situations.
Security is becoming a significant factor for the world cup as it is a high profile
sporting event. In popularity, the World Cup comes right after the Olympics. Hence, the
matter of security becomes a significant concern. It is important that more security is
deployed to make the games more secure. The spectators would be the worst affected in case
of any serious security problems. The entrances to the stadiums are high security zones.
Hence, the maximum focus should be given towards increasing the security of these places15.
There are areas that are more populated than the rest of the places of the stadiums. More
emphasis should be provided towards increasing the security of these areas.
The average ticket buyer should be considered in relation to his/her backgrounds.
There are members of organized hooligan groups that can enter the stadium. Also, there can
be terrorist or criminals that can actually get entry into the stadium, thereby exposing the
security of the stadium to maximum threat.

In conclusion, it can be said that there are significant consideration that the current
governing body in not taking in terms of the selection of host countries or brining innovation
in the ways in which security is provided. It is important to understand that the tournament of
this stature needs to go to newer places around the world. This would create a more inclusive
environment and promote the sport as well as international peace.
