My hobbies and interests outside of work include spending time with my wife and kids, biking,
hiking, and woodworking. When time allows, I can usually be found reading about industry
trends online and locating my latest mechanical projects online. I often put my mechanical skills

Reflection
This has impacted one of the most important skills that I needed as an engineering graduate in
the job market. Particularly, the unit has covered in detail the professional marketing
communication strategies and skills through resume writing and cover letter writing which are
basic documents when applying for any job. In the case of letter writing, much emphasis was on
the formal letter, and the language used when making job application.
Professional marketing is essential to every focused graduate willing to get into a competitive job
market. This is how am able to package me and present to my likely employer. Packaging comes
with personal expression and communication. A job seeker expresses him or herself through
writing a letter of interest to a position and a resume detailing the skills, experiences, and
qualifications.
The unit impact on making professional networks which lead to job opportunities or promotions.
As a professional engineer, it is required I make beneficial networks and consultations in my
field of expertise so that to build higher chances of getting a job.
To gain much from this unit more practice is needed especially in writing skills of the cover
letter and resume. The language mastery is critical for conciseness and clear communications to
the likely employer. I have learned that a well-polished resume and a cover letter engage the
employer to win myself an interview Bock, L. (2014).
The unit stresses on the personal expression to the prospective employer through writing.
Therefore, the job seeker must be capable of being able to express themselves into writing and
verbally when invited for interviews. The employers are not only looking for academics but also
the stature of expression and communication. As an engineer, I need to communicate my
findings from research or demonstrate the concept or a design to the lay people. I must have the
art of making them understand regardless of the complexity of the projects.
Finally, the unit has taught me the professional standards in the engineering career. That is what
the market expects of me and professional communications. It has built my confidence on
developing official letters and a good resume, without which my career will not have made much
progress. I will be able to market my skills in the engineering market with ease.
