customers to choose merchandise as per preferences
and for their ultimate use.
Australia's Retail Sales increased around 3.7 % Y-o-Y
in 2018, compared with a 3.7 % increase in the
previous year. Australian retail sector is segmented
based on product category, supply network and
market dynamics (Hasan 2016).
Nepal retail sector is growing by around 15% which is
higher than international growth rate averaging
around 2-3%.

market structure to elevate competition in
the Australian market.
Australia’s export sector lately is under
threats from global economy especially due
to the US-China trade war and Brexit.
Structural Difference between
Australian and Nepalese Retail
Sector

Majority of local as well as global producers and
sellers in Nepal retail sector dispense their
products via old-style three-fold distribution
system such as manufacturer to wholesaler or
supplier to retailer.
However, services are likely to raise at an
average rate of around 6.3% per year by 2020.
Reliable payment inflows will maintain growth in
retail and wholesale trade (Liu, Margaritis and
Qiao, 2016).
