1ROLE CONCEPT AND CULTURAL GROUPS
Introduction
Culture refers to the beliefs, traditions, values and other practices held by a particular
group of individuals and which forms a way of their lives (Graham, Ashworth & Tunbridge,
2016). In the present times it is generally seen that the various people of the world practice
different kinds of culture and which in a way has become a part of their identity (Graham,
Ashworth & Tunbridge, 2016). This is one of the primary reasons for the emergence of
various kinds of cultural groups in the present times within the framework of the various
nations of the world (Graham, Ashworth & Tunbridge, 2016). Hofstede defines culture as
“the collective programming of the mind distinguishing the members of one group or
category of people from others” (Hofstede Insights, 2018). It is significant to note that the
entity of culture not only affects the identity as well as the way of life of the various
individuals but at the same time affects the way business is being conducted by those cultural
groups (Landy & Conte, 2016). Thus, it is generally seen that the way of conducting business
by one cultural group varies starkly from the way of conducting business by the other cultural
groups (Tseng & Hsu, 2018). In the recent times it is seen that the nation of England has
emerged as one of the major cultural groups of the world with its unique set of values,
practices as well as way of transacting business (Tseng & Hsu, 2018). This paper will focus
of the major cultural aspects of the culture of England, namely, health beliefs and practices,
Family Patterns, Communication Style and Death and dying practices.
Health Beliefs and Practices
The people of the nation of England are generally very conscious about their health
and the concept of healthy living and lifestyle forms a major part of their lives (Corr, Corr &
Doka, 2018). The National Health Service is the major health care organization within the
framework of the nation of England which provides the basic as well as advanced health care

services to the people of the nation. In addition to this, it is generally seen that there are
various other kinds of private as well as public health care organizations which provide
effective health care services to the people of the nation (Corr, Corr & Doka, 2018). The life
expectancy rate of the people of the nation of England is generally higher than the other
nations of the world in comparison to the other nations of the world on the score of the
effective health care services which they have in place and also because of the consciousness
of the people of the nation about the importance of having sound health (Hewison, 2015). As
a matter of fact it can be said that the concept of sound health has become a part of the culture
of the nation of England itself and it is a reflection of this particular that the people of the
nation right from an early age being taught about the importance of having a good health
(Hewison, 2015). In addition to these, the people are at the same time encouraged to work-out
as well as take the help of the various kinds of gyms which are found in abundance in the
different parts of the nation (Britain, 2018). Furthermore, it is a reflection of the health care
beliefs as well as practices held by the people of the nation that most of the people of the
nation are very conscious about the kind of food which they consume.
The health beliefs as well as practices held by the people of the nation of England
also find adequate representation in the various workplaces of the nation (Holland, 2017).
Thus, the various workplaces related to the various corporate houses of the nations are
required to follow various kinds of effective health practices which are likely to contribute in
a positive manner towards the health of the people who are working in that particular
corporate house (Holland, 2017). Some of the commonly health beliefs as well as practices
held by the various corporate houses of the nation are adequate medical facilities, personal
hygiene and safety, medical insurance facilities and others (Holland, 2017).

Family Patterns
Family forms an important entity of the nation of England and finds adequate
representation in the genre of the culture of the nation as well. It is generally seen that the
people of the nation like to have small families and this is probably one of the major reasons
for the controlled population growth of the nation (Graham, Ashworth & Tunbridge, 2016).
Furthermore, it is generally seen that the teenagers once they reach the age of eighteen years
or have completed their college they move out of the home of their parents and like to live on
their own (Graham, Ashworth & Tunbridge, 2016). This not only provides them a certain
amount of independence but at the same time allows them to lead their lives on their own
terms. The average marriage age, on the other hand, varies from person to person with some
people marrying in their early twenties and others marrying even as late as in their fifties
(Landy & Conte, 2016). The concept of live-in relationship is very popular among the people
of the nation and the government of the nation itself has various legislations in place which
legalizes this kind of relationship among the people of the nation (Landy & Conte, 2016). In
the recent times it is seen that the people of the nation have become open minded in a
significant manner towards the various kinds of gay as well as lesbian marriages (Landy &
Conte, 2016).
The family patterns followed by the people of the nation also affects the various
corporate houses of the nation. For example, the limited population of the native England
citizens means that the various corporate houses of the nation in order to meet the demands of
the industry in which they are operational have to take the help of the various kinds of
immigrants and other individuals who also form a part of the nation in order to meet the labor
requirements (Neuliep, 2017). In addition to this, this particular culture of the people of
England also affects the various corporate houses in another significant manner. For example,
the people of the nation are very specific about spending the right amount of time with their

family members and thus the concept of work life balance have gained a significant amount
of importance within the framework of the various corporate houses of the nation (Warren,
2017).
Communication Style
Communication forms an important part of the lives of the human beings and is
required to effectively convey adequate amount of information to the concerned people. Thus
it is generally seen that just like the other cultural groups the concept of effective
communication skills also forms an important part of the lives of the people belonging to the
cultural group of the nation of England as well (Corr, Corr & Doka, 2018). However, it is
significant to note that the people of the nation of England are very specific about the style of
communication which they follow and generally they do not like to take the help of
colloquial English and other local dictions for the process of their communication with the
other individuals (Corr, Corr & Doka, 2018). The people of the nation of England generally
like to take the help of Standard English, which as a matter of fact forms the mother tongue
language of the people for the purpose of communication (Sidaway, 2016). In addition to
these, it is generally seen that the people of the nation during the process of communication
like to give adequate amount of respect to the other individuals (Sidaway, 2016). It is a
reflection of this particular fact the people of the nation during the process of communication
generally like to address the other individuals as Sir or Madam.
The communication style used by the people of the nation also affects the various
corporate houses which form an important part of the nation. For example, the people of the
nation generally like to maintain the power distance within the framework of their corporate
houses and this affects the communication styles used by the people of the nation in a
significant manner (Sobo, 2016). It is a reflection of this particular fact that the various

corporate houses of the nation of England have clear demarcations of power within their
framework and thus the communication style which is being used by the various corporate
houses of the nation is a linear one with the individuals having to follow the hierarchy of
power division within the framework of the corporate house for the process of
communication (Sobo, 2016). In addition to these, it is also seen that the style of
communication which is being used by the various individuals within the framework of the
various corporate houses is a formal one keeping in view the professional nature of work
lifestyle followed by the people of the nation of England (Holland, 2017). Therefore, it would
be appropriate to say that the process of communication forms an important part of the
cultural of England.
Death and Dying practices
The concepts of death and dying have formed the central fulcrum of discussion of the
people of the world for a very long time and thus it is generally seen that the people
belonging to the cultural group of England also have been curious about these concepts for a
very long time (Tseng & Hsu, 2018). It is to be noted that the majority of the people
belonging to the cultural group of England follows the various precepts of the religion of
Christianity and steadfastly believe in its various teachings (Tseng & Hsu, 2018). Thus, it is
generally seen that the people of the nation of England view the concepts of death and dying
through the specific lens of the religion of Christianity and its various teachings. The people
of the nation thus view their entire life as a journey and their time period on the Earth as a
brief part of this particular journey through they need to pass in order to be ready to meet
their Creator after the end of their time on this Earth (Landy & Conte, 2016). Thus, the
concepts of death and dying are often seen through the lens of mysticism by the people of the
nation. The people of the nation also consider death as a necessary event which is required so

that they can move on to the next part of their journey and meet their Creator (Tseng & Hsu,
2018). However, at the same time it is also that there are other sections of the people of the
nation who repudiate the concept of death and take the help of medical advancements of the
nation to prolong their time period on this Earth (Jupp, 2016). The concept of death as well as
dying forms a typical aspect of the national culture of the nation of England and affects the
lives of the people in a significant manner. For example, the religion of Christianity which is
the main form of religion practiced by the people of the nation of England preaches that the
human beings are being rewarded with the gift of Heaven for doing good as well as virtuous
kinds of activities during their life time on the Earth whereas they are being sent to Hell if
they do not follow the various precepts of the religion of Christianity and lead a virtuous life.
Therefore, it would be appropriate to say that the concept of death as well as dying is directly
influenced by the religion which is being practiced by the majority of the people of the nation
and has come to form a key component of the culture of the nation of England.
Conclusion
To conclude, the entity of culture forms an important part of the lives of the
individuals. It not only represents the beliefs, values, traditions and other practices held by a
group of people but at the same time it is generally seen that the entity of culture also
represents the identity of those people as well. In the recent times it is seen that various
cultural groups have emerged and among them the cultural block of England have emerged as
one of the most significant ones on the score of some of the unique values as well as beliefs
held by the people of this particular cultural group. The unique beliefs as well as the values of
the people of the nation of England becomes evident in the health beliefs and practices,
Family Patterns, Communication Style and Death and dying practices which they commonly
