INTRODUCTION
Room Divisions consist of two departments’ front office and housekeeping which are at
top in the list of hotel clients. Present report is based on Hilton hotel, YHA Cambridge hostel and
Belmarsh prison (Philips, 2016). This report covers the services provided by them to their
customers. Moreover, it focuses on the legal and statutory requirements followed by hotel,
hostel and prison. At last, it consists of role and responsibility of the receptionist in effective
management of hotel.
TASK 1
In a room division department, they provide services like accommodation to the
customers in front and back office as compared to the services offered by hostel and prisons.
In Hilton Hotel they give facilities according to the demand of customer, room division in hotel
is considered as the front office operation in which the work of receptionist is to handle the
information of customers, keep guest accounts, and to provide proper rooms with respect to
needs of the customers (McLean and Elkind, 2013).
Hostel services are different from hotel as in hostel the work of receptionist is to give
information about different types of rooms and services according to the students. Housekeeping
facility includes proper cleanliness and supply of equipments. For example, YHA Cambridge is
offering services to the students of University (Medina, 2015).
In prison services, the work of receptionist is to manage the entry and exit of offenders, In
addition to it, the needs of the offenders is analysed and assured that the correct procedure to be
followed. Belmarsh is one of the best examples of prison.

public with their services and as per the legal practices for the safety of staff and customers they
should issue a certificate of safety from fire department (Klee, 2015). YHA Cambridge hostel,
legal and statutory requirements covers licensing of hostel including license application, security
access of students. In contrast to this, Belmarsh prison they maintain the records of offenders in
which they follow legal framework of proper authoritative guide which is up to date and it is
provided to the prisoners. As per the law of UK, admission details of offenders must be recorded.

beneficial for the customer and they provide the luxury services as per the requirement of the

they provide average with high level of security of the students.

In Hilton hotel, receptionist plays an important role in effective management of hotel in
meeting and greeting clients. They are the only point of contact between hotel and clients.
Reception facilitates to maintain the records of customers and give security to them. For
example, if customers want to book a restaurant then they directly contact to them. In addition to
this, they provide gym facilities to their customers with accommodation. Moreover, they give spa
facilities and pre bookings. Now a day’s online booking are available for customers and the work
of receptionist is to forward the same. Further, it can be said that social media also plays an
essential function in the hotel business. However, role of reception is most important in the
organizational structure. It also includes that the receptionist at hotel plays an essential role by
which they make sure that to provide comfort and satisfaction with their services to the range of
customers. As they manage high level of professionalism with the guest in order to give all the
aspects of different services which is provided to the customers(Phillips, 2016). It helps in
maintaining the image of the hotel as well as increase in the customers.

It is concluded that all the three fields have their different services. But reception is
common part of any organizational structure, their work is to forward the information regarding
customers. Legal frameworks of all the fields are different from each other according to the
