1. Background
1.1 Background Information of Ryman Healthcare
Ryman Healthcare is a retirement village that is situated in New Zealand and the services
that are offered by the organisation is spread over homes. The listing of Ryman Healthcare is
among the New Zealand Stock Exchange. It is also listed as among the top largest companies.
The various functional services provided by the healthcare organisation is provided to nearly 31
operational villages located accords New Zealand and Melbourne. The business model followed
at Ryman can be defined as a mixture of healthcare and property development services. The
Ryman Healthcare villages are able to offer a mixture of different mode of options based on
living after retirement. These villages are large enough for accommodating the residents of a
mini-hospital for their residents.
Ryman Healthcare was primarily established in 1984. The company has always been a
pioneer in the field of healthcare and is also striving hard to maintain their services. The
organisation is one of the largest operator or retirement village in New Zealand. These villages
are mostly spread over New Zealand and Melbourne. Almost 9000 residents and 5000 staff
collaborate with each other in order to bring out the best form of services. The residents of
Ryman mostly receive care and are assisted with high quality of healthcare and living services.
The business model followed by Ryman Healthcare offers a mixture of different form of options
of post-retirement living within their villages. The main business structure, which is followed at
their villages is that the residents at the village pay for the use of a lifetime occupancy. After the
processing of payment, each of the residents is offered a separate apartment or unit. In case if
any resident opts to move out of the village or the estate, the resident would receive a deducted

amount of a lesser sum of money that would be capped at 20%. The deducted amount would be
based on the offered services that had been provided over a period of 5 years.
1.2 SWOT Analysis of the Organisation
Based on a proper analysis over the organisation, the SWOT analysis for Ryman
Healthcare could be discussed as follows:

In order to stay ahead in the highly competitive market, Ryman Healthcare would have to
continuously strive in the market to showcase their facilities and thus also bring innovation
within their services. Based on deciding over the use of a best class of system for their
organisation, there are several opportunities that could help them in leading the competitive
market.
