1 Understand Principles of Safeguarding Adults
1.1 Explain the term safeguarding
This is the way through which individual lives in secure and safe environment to adult in their
surroundings. There is unsafe environment in current market, so it is not possible for people
to explore in society. There are some organization, government who works for maintaining
and safeguarding the interest of people, so they can sustain in society and get proper
facilities. These days, there are many problems which is faced by people in existing in
society because of physical and mental harassment. If adults ae suffered from harassment,
then there is ill- effect on society as well (Butler and Manthorpe, 2016).
1.2 Explain own role and responsibilities in safeguarding individuals
In order to safeguard individuals, it is responsibility of individuals to understand and
determine the way to deal with negative situation. In case, there is any harassment, I will
analyze and conduct proper investigation through which I can stand against it. As I have
proper knowledge about laws, so I ask authorizes body to take legal action. I will motivate
individual to stand against it and raise voice because that is more effective. If harassment is
at my work place then I will complain to appropriate body and if actions are not taken, I will
take legal action against organization. I will support sufferer and ask them to express
properly, so people also support them. I will regularly take follow ups from authorized body
regarding taking proper actions against them. I will take individual to consultant through
which they can ascertain what is right and actions which has to taken.
1.3 and 2.1 Define the following types of abuse and signs and symptoms associated with
each:

Physical
This is the abuse which occur
in relations. This starts

Emotional/psychological
Emotional abuse is affected because
of some emotional relationship
among individuals.
Frustration, angry nature
Financial/Material This is the abuse in which one
individual have control over
monetary expenditure of others.
Bank fraud, investment of fraud,
forged signature (Dryden, 2017).
Modern Slavery
Under this slavery individual is
forced to work without any pay.
Child slavery, forced marriages,
forced labour.
Discriminatory
In this there is discrimination among
people in the basis of their sex,
caste, Creed, colour, etc.
Unequal pay, improper working
environment.
Institutional/Organisational
Organisational abuse occurs in
among workers when they are
forced to work under improper
working environment.
Abuse at work place, use of physical
forces.
Self Neglect When individual does not thinks
that they are as per other people
and not able to represent
confidently
Lack of confidence, feels
discriminated, etc.
Neglect by Others
When other people does not thinks
one person capable of
understanding him. This might lead
to personal grievance among them
as well (George-Taylor, 2019).
Does not provide equal
opportunities, not able to determine
abilities and capabilities of person.

1.4 Describe harm
Harm is the harmful action which is caused due to psychological activity. This is the action
which is conducted in daily routine action. Due to harm to individual, there is fear in mind
and sometimes it is tough to get overcome it. Sometimes, harm is unintentionally but it
increase risk for others. Harm can be financial, psychological, sexual, neglect, etc. These
harms affects individuals sometimes physically and sometimes mentally due to which
individuals are not able to overcome with it.
1.5 Describe restrictive practices
There are some activities which are not authentic in terms of legality. There is
requirement of understanding and determining actions which are restricted by legal
organization, so these actions are not allowed to be conducted. With the help of restrictive
activities, interest of targeted individuals are protected. Restrictive practices are
performed by individuals for safeguarding interest of individuals. This is the way through
which harmful actions can be avoided (Graham and et. al., 2017).
