The uncertainty of the accidents calls for proper procedures and implementation of the laid down policies in many organization. Many organizations either fail to take proper responsibilities on accidents that happen to employees during the working hours or don’t put proper measures to eliminate any chance of accident in thepremise. The article, therefore, looks at the safety and risk management policies and the commontypes of accidents that occur in building and construction companies with Canberra ConstructionCompany as a case study. The article goes further to look at a case study of an accident to an employee of Barpuk Investments and Building Company and analysis of the actions that were taken by the safety management team to address the safety breach.IntroductionIn our everyday’s life, accidents do happen and they are always uncertain, however, in a working area, proper procedures should always be put in place to avoid and address accidents in case of their occurrences (Grote, 2012). The process is known as Safety and Risk Management. Safety and risk management entails proper understanding, analyzing and discussing such accidents in a company to ensure that their avoidance as much as possible. The commonly used standards in safety and risk management are; International Standard Organization (ISO 31000), is a codified risk management that requires observation on the principles and procedures during management of risks. Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) is a general view on the hazards related to chemicals in a workplace. China Ocean Shipping Company (COSO 2004) and Oregon Government Ethics Commission (OGEC 2009) are commissions tasked by the China

In the globe there are a large number of building and construction firms that fail to demonstrate the high level of safety and risk management in accordance to placed policies (Lathrop, 2017). There are many types of accidents in the construction industry (Fonsec, 2014). These include tripping accidents, accounting for about 38.8% of the total accidents in the Construction Company. Workers being stuck between objects accounting to 9.6% of all deaths while electric shock accounts to about 8.6% of the total deaths, faulty machinery and automotive accidents account for 7.8%, noise hazards caused by harmful and corrosive chemicals. The death rate in the Construction Company is higher than the average of all industries making it essential for the employers to take control of safety and risk management procedures. These procedures of protecting employees from risks in a construction sites are provided by Construction Health RiskWorking Group, CONIAC. Construction Health Risk Working Group has laid down policies and regulations that provide guidance in eliminating and addressing accidental issues in building and construction sites. Research shows that more than 100 people are likely to die when exposed to work health hazards for example using chemicals when unprotected. It is the responsibility of every person involved in the construction site to observe at the safety and risk measures so as accidental possibility is reduced to minimum. Therefore, it is mandatory for the employer to check and control the health of the workers and advising them accordingly and encouraging the employees to adopt team since it aids to hazards reduction.
