Influence of Culture, Politics, and Power on Individual and Team Behavior in Sainsbury_2
INTRODUCTION
The organizational behavioral is the study of both individual and group that analyze the
complete activity of the company. Sainsbury is the third largest retailer of the world and famous
for its better quality products and services across the world. This report includes the
organization's culture, politics and power that influence the individual and team behavior and
performance and it also includes the content and process theories of motivation that enable
effective achievement of goals and also the discussion about the teams that is effective and
ineffective and what makes an effective team as opposed to an ineffective team. At last, it
describes the different concepts and philosophies of the organizational behavioral that helps in
giving the success to the organization and also stabilize the future of the company for the longer
term.
P1. Organization's culture, politics and power influence the individual and team behavior
performance.
Sainsbury is the second largest supermarket chain of UK and the largest retailer of
groceries across the world. It was established in 1869 and it was started as a retailer of fresh food
but after the great growth and the expansion of the company, Sainsbury become the top leader of
the retail industries. The subsidiaries of Sainsbury are Sainsbury Bank and Sainsbury Energy.
The marketing style and strategies of Sainsbury are unique and different from other companies
and this is the only reason of success of this organization. Every organization in the world are
affected by some factors that can destroy the company or give the better growth and hike and the
factors are organizational culture, politics and power that can influence the whole team or an
individual employee (Borkowski., 2015).
Politics
The political factor influence the company's profitability and the productivity of the
company in a long and short term. It decreases the overall productivity of the company as well as
of the employees. When the employees play politics at the workplace but so that the employees
pay less attention on the work and play the dirty politics and by this manner, the employees
failed to achieve the target and work gets delayed. Politics also affects the concentration of the
company as well as of the employees and this affect image of the company and also spoils the
image of an organization. Politics changes the attitude of the employees and distract the
concentration of the serious and the dedicated employees and downsize the employee

productivity and performance and if employee loses the interest then it will directly impacts on
the company. Sainsbury always try to avoid the political factors but in UK, the rate of debts
directly impacts on the attitude of customers and on the business condition of the company.
Sainsbury has to not only operate in these market conditions but it also has to keep its business
running continuously (Borkowski., 2016). Here, Sainsbury politics is influenced by top
management. They are having power to take effective decisions by which politics of organisation
is influenced.
Power
The power is the opportunity to improve the productivity and the strength of the company
as well as of the employees. Power is divided into two types that can be positive and negative
and the positive power encourage the employees and in Sainsbury, the employees are encouraged
by giving the appreciation and the reward to the employees for their outstanding performance
and hard work and the dedication of the employees brings the success in the company and
stronger the sustainability of the company. This is completely dependent on the leader and is the
leader is not effectively working or collaborating with team then it is very difficult to achieve the
success and this also affect the image of an organization. The wrong use of power can influence
the work culture of an organization and the team leader stimulate the employees by pressurizing
them and also giving them the fear of job termination. Politics is the base of power and it
describes that the open use of power is considered as the symbol of awful management
(Czaplewski., Key and Van Scotter., 2016). It is critiqued that power in Sainsbury is possessed
by CEO, General managers, etc. Hence, they misuse those power to take decision. In this way
culture is influenced.
Culture
The performance of an organization strongly impacts on the company culture and it also
increases the productivity of the business as well as of an individual. In the organization, the
strong culture enhance the efficiency and the effectiveness of the organizational management and
also improves the workforce culture for the employees so that the employees will be connected
with the company for the long term. Sainsbury focuses on providing the better quality product
and services to the customers and so that the consumers will remain loyal with the company and
this helps in maintaining the long term relationship with the customers (Judge and Robbins.,
2017).
