INTRPODUCTION
Project management is a complete process of managing the whole project. This report
is based on managing the whole project. In assessment 1 stages like investigate the project,
project management plan and critical analysis of each stage involve with the project
management plan will be discussed. Furthermore, in assessment 2 critical success factor
learnt in order to implement the whole project will be discussed. What is the lesson learnt
while managing the whole project will also discuss in this part of project. Necessary
recommendations will also provide to improve the project outcome.
ASSESSMENT 1
Project Initiation Document (PID)
PID is the document in which the project is clearly laying out in the justification for a
project where all the key elements of the project included (Walker, 2015). This also provide a
brief overview of all the essential elements which will going to be cover in the chosen
project. For Salisbury House, the PID will be as mentioned below:
Purpose The purpose of the project is to create a new and additional teaching
facilities for increasing number of students so that they can enjoy the
teaching.
Scope With the help of this project, University can easily attract new students
and this contribute to build the brand reputation within a market.
Offering the best variety of services to students makes them able to enjoy
teaching and improve their learning as well. Further, another scope of
this project is such that it will help to improve the overall performance of
students and offer all the facilities in new building (Meredith, Shafer
and Mantel Jr, 2017).
Background University of Wales Trinty Saint David wants to acquire new building
block known as Salisbury House. Through this, campus wants to create
an additional teaching facilities to their students so that they can improve
their learning. As the staff members of the university keep increasing
and there is a need to provide enough facilities to them as well. For that,
there is a need to provide effective facilities which assists to attract range

of new customers and staff members.
Objectives The main objectives of developing this project are as mentioned below:
To provide best facilities to the staff members and students so
that they can be easily attracted.
Campus provide extra facilities to their member so that they can
improve the business performance and staff members can easily
offer the best facilities to their members.
To improve the brand image of the campus by offering best
variety of services which help to stay competitive in market.
Assumption Project manager get all the resources which is required by in
order to meet the defined aim (Clough,Sears and Sears, 2020).
All the relevant stakeholders also keep attending the meeting and
this in turn causes positive impact because it assist to generate
better outcome.
The hired team members also have enough skills which assists to
meet the defined aim of the study.
Dependencies All the defined task are depend upon each other such that it is mentioned
in Gantt chart where all the project dependencies can be analysed
effectively. Through this, project manager make decision and identify
whether the project will be completed within a defined tenure.
Constraints Not meet the defined tenure as decided in the project will
considered as a constraints
Over budget is also recognized as a key constraint and it affect
the result.
The quality of choosing the resources is considered another
constraints for the project.

Quality All the chosen resources needs to be skilled and must have an ability to

Stakeholders The key stakeholders involved in this project includes government,
University, project manager so that effective they can share their views
pertaining to the project and realize the need of any changes as well
(Sears and et.al., 2015).

Compromise in the quality of chosen resources that might also
affected the entire project in negative manner.

The project manager will create a project charter at this stage. In the initial stage

project at this level. Feasibility study comprises the fact that how feasible is the entire project
is for the organisation. Feasibility study of the project decides whether the project plan
finalised by the manager is sufficient enough to provide the final project outcome or objective
finalised in the whole project. Team is also assembled at this level with the support of human
resources and employees associated with the University of Wales Trinty Saint David
(UWTSD) London. The project plan is further submitted for approval at this level. This stage
is a comprehensive stage involve with the entire project management practice. The basic aim
is to set all the aim and objective of the project and gain approval from the stakeholders to
initiate the whole project.
Planning
The project planning is an important phase of the project management practice in
which entire planning is coordinated with all stakeholders involve with the project. This
phase involve creation and analysis of the business case. The identification is also conducted
about all the potential stakeholders that will become a part of the project management
practice. Meeting with stakeholders is also conducted to finalise the approval of the
project. The manager also defines the scope of the project at this level. Project goals and
scope of the project that potentially will address are also set by the manager at this stage of
the project management practice (Layton, Ostermiller and Kynaston, 2020). All the project
deliverable associated with the project will be finalised at this level of project management
practice. The manager further creates the project schedule and milestone in order to
implement the whole project further. Task assessment is also executed at this level. Quality
iof the project will assess by the manager and on the basis of the quality analysis risk
assessment is conducted by the manager. Planning is among the crucial phase associated with
the project management practice coordinate by the manager. The panning also involve
identify about the budgeted time that will be require to implement the whole project.
Planning is among the most crucial phase of project management cycle as this coordinates the

the project is segregated into the team members who carry the skill and ability to execute the

such tasks that require extra time to complete and there are some task who can complete
before the set deadline. So the project manager try to balance the timeline involve with the
project. Execution of te project phase also involve ensuring that proper quality is maintained
at each stage of project life cycle. This is essential that the manager make sure that quality of
every project stage must be utmost by nature so that better control over executing can
establish by the management. The execution of any project is based on certain fundamental
that involve project’s products, timescale, cost, quality and benefits arises out of the
project. Execution is a phase that will cherish the fact whether the management will be able
to achieve the set aim and objective behind the project is executed (Miranda and Helia,

There are many project management methodology used by management as per the
situation. In the context of present study, project manager will use waterfall project
management methodology because it is a step by step process which help to meet the defined
aim. The rationale for choosing this method over other is such that it help to generate a better
outcome. Also, it can be stated that with the help of this methodology, company can speed
up the overall performance by involving all the stakeholders (Cleland, 2017 ). However, in
the critically not it has been analysed that outcome can be generated in a crystal clear manner
so that effective results might be generated
As per the chosen methodology, it has been analysed that Salisbury House wants to
provide bets variety of products to their staff members and students. This is possible because

Critical success and failure factors associated with the Salisbury House
(SH) Project
There are many critical factors that may acts either as a success or failure factor right from
planning till execution and completion of the project. Generally, these factors are associated
with competencies of project manager or team members and also with the stability in the
external environmental factors. The present project that is, Salisbury House involves
acquisition of new building block within the same Kennington Park in which their main
building is located in order to enhance their current teaching facility. Therefore, there are
certain success and failure factors realized during this project right from planning till
completion which will be discussed in the following section of the report.
Success factors
Competent project team: There was a competent project team exhibiting all the necessary
skills needed for the successful completion of the project. All member’s participation is well
defined and they have communicated well throughout the project lifecycle. It is the team
competence that lead to a well - designed structure for new building block which makes it
possible to provide all the facilities as per the plan.
Adequate fund and resources: There were an adequate fund obtained through Turing
funding awarded by UK government for encouraging high offering of educational
opportunities (Mavi and Standing, 2018). This allows for getting things done before
opportunities get acquired by or lost to competitors.
Involvement and inclusion of end users: End users such as teaching staff, administrative
staff and other management team gets involved through giving their suggestions regarding
how their expanded educational facility could be improved from those of current one. This
allows for better planning and implementation as well which lead to project success.
Realistic time estimates: The biggest success that was find at project closer is that there was
no time overrun, instead all the activities get completed 2 days before the planned deadline.

into account that the expanded facility will be based on modern technology such installation

Lack of risk management: There seems that no advance planning has been for the purpose

incompetent teaching staff who are technically unsound while the modern classrooms were

On the basis of the project, the variety of lesson that a project manager can learnt from
their project which helps them in successfully completing the whole project in best manner
possible. From the SH project management, I have learnt the ways of building the team and
allocating the task or activities accordingly. It means informing the team about the
methodologies such as waterfall they will be adopt in order to complete this project at the
beginning of project. Further, project manager also need to make sure that their team
members are interested in the project or not. If not that in order to keep them interested, the
project manager have to motivate and encourage their each and every team member. This is
another lesson I have learned from project which also help me in completing the whole
project within the pre-determined time limit (Belpoliti, 2021). Supporting the team member is
one of the best way which helps the project manager in achieving aims and objectives of the
project. I have also learnt that in order to support my team, I have to delegate tasks to the
members appropriately such as delegation of task of designing classroom, reception space
etc.
During the project, one of my team member face difficulty in setting the budget of the
project and I scolded badly on this to them. The impact of which they stop talking with me

which has started affecting Salisbury project. It is because the other team members unable to
complete the activities in the pre-defined budget which has result into the over budget
project. So, from this incidence I have learnt that beside scolding badly my team member on
their mistakes, I need to calmly talk with them and ask them about the issues they are facing
(Jayasinghe, 2021). It is because it keeps them motivate towards the work even after any
mistake and they will also take resolution that they will never repeat such mistake in future.
This helps me to learn that great things don’t come in easy way but it requires lots of hard
work and patience.
The lesson learnt document is all about the experience a team and managers earn from
each completed projects. This is best for increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of future
project teams and managers. Communicate clearly and provide appraisal to team members is
one of the best lesson I have learnt from this Salisbury House project. Beside this, the another
lesson I have learnt risk management is the key to success of any project (Mbunda and
Kapinga, 2021). I have learnt that if I really wants to manage my whole project and make
sure that it will be delivered to client on time. Then, I have to identify the risks which can
affect my projects and what possible risk management responses I can take. This helps me in
managing and improving the cost, quality, safety and operation of the project of Salisbury
House. The lesson learnt document helps the project manager and team to improve
performance and productivity of project.
Recommendation
It is to be suggested to the project manager to select the best team members for the
project who can easily manage the work and meet the defined aim of a project,
Also, the project manager should consider best communication plan to the members
so that each team member can generate a better outcome and also share the important
communication to their members as well (Andrei and et.al., 2019).
Further, it is also suggested that in future when the same project will be applied then
different project management methodology will be used i.e. Prince2 methodology
which help to meet the defined aim.
Moreover, proper and effective tracking system needs to be used by the project
manager so that effective outcome can be generated. In this, project manager can
determine whether the team members are lack behind so that effective outcome can be
generated.

Apart from this, it is also suggested to the project manager to improve the weakness
as describe under the reflection section so that effective outcome can be generated in
future when the same project will be conducted. This in turn assist to generate a better
outcome and also meet the defined aim of a project in an effective manner.
Also, it has been analysed that different advance technology needs to be used by the
project manager in order to smoothen the project and meet the defined aim within a
set goal. Along with this, it can be also stated that for tracking the performance of all
team members, there is a need to use benchmarking tool so that it help to generate a
better outcome.
Effective risk management plan needs to be managed by the project manager which
help to meet the defined aim and this in turn also causes positive impact over the
result (Ajam, 2018). Such that before finalizing the result, there is a need to prepare
risk management plan for the project so that in future when the same has been
performed, project manager know how to manage the same in effectual manner.
Overall, by complying this suggestion will be help to meet the define aim of a project and
I future when the same has been performed, it will meet the defined aim.
Reflective Report
In this project which is known as Salisbury House project, there was an initiative took
by The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) in which they acquire a new block
of building which is located in the same location that is, Kennington Park where there main
building is located. The purpose of such acquisition was to expand the current educational
facility in order to fulfil the increasing number of students admissions and educational
demand in this region. The project was managed by performing through the five stages of
project management which begins with project initiation, then project planning, execution,
monitoring and controlling and ends at project closer stage. In the beginning at initiation
stage, the goals and objectives were set for which the educational expansion project has been
undertaken, blue print has been developed to highlight how additional teaching facility will
lead to better image of the university and improvement in offering education. Within
planning stage, budget and timeline for the set has been developed along with assignment of
tasks and development of reporting framework. This is followed by execution stage where
classrooms are designed and technical equipment are procured. At monitoring and controlling
stage, the budget and timeline has been taken into account along with ensuring that whether

the current modern classrooms would be able to keep up with current education quality of the
university or not. At closure stage, admissions are taken for new courses and new teaching
staff are recruited.
In all these stages and activities performed within it, there are certain skills that has
been identified or needed for becoming a successful manager, such as the following:
Team commitment: Project manager should begin with explaining the purpose clearly
to the team members for which they have gathered (Tabatabaei Cuellar and Williams, 2020).
At the initiation and planning stage itself, it is necessary to build relationship among team
members by explaining them their team dynamics. This led to members enjoying working
together rather than facing personality issues, constant battle or conflicts with team members
or project manager. Accordingly, their productivity gets increased which led to achievement
of projects goals in an effective manner.
Negotiation and conflict resolution skill: Project manager must be capable for
helping team members in resolving their conflicts (Said and et.al., 2020). Also, project
manager must be able to negotiate well with the functional management or experts to assign
critical skills to the team members to enhance their understanding and productivity
accordingly. In this way, success probability can be enhanced.
Interpersonal skills: These skills are necessary for communicating and building better
relationships with team members which is also known as people skills. The skill comprises of
active listening, providing motivation, flexibility in operations and incorporating patience
while leading to certain decision associated with the project. Like project manager should
indicate their thinking and feeling in such a way that should not lead to creating
discouragement or defensiveness among team members. Also, he must be flexible enough
that should facilitate easy approvability of team members with issues.
Communication skills:
For project manager, effective communication skills are a key to success without
which they unable to manage and complete any project in best manner and on time. Thus, I
need to develop strong communication skills in myself with the help of which I can able to
negotiate with the internal and external parties of the project. I am also able to motivate and
encourage my team towards the project and how they can do their best in order to complete
their assigned task on time. It is because during the SH project, I have found that I am unable

to understand my teams issue which make them uncomfortable to talk with me. In order to
perform variety of role and responsibilities along with coordinating with the client, staffs and
other members. The communication skills will also help me in managing and looking out that
important goals and milestones of project can’t get missed (Karasheva, and et.al., 2021).
Time management skills:
Another skill which I have to develop in myself in order to became a successful
project manager is time management skills. It is because being a project manager, I have to
effectively plan and manage the work time of my as well as my team members. This skill
helps me in scheduling the time required to complete each task of project and which task
require much time or how I can manage it. The list of important and urgent task is need to be
identified by me in order to schedule them with do first. Again, time management skills help

important and urgent tasks I can skip them. It means time management helps me in
completing the projects on pre-defined time.
Critical thinking skills:
This is a skill which helps me in managing & completing each and every project on
time and with the achievement of all aims and objectives. In this skills, what I need to do is
first enhance my observation power. With the help of observation, I am able to keep myself
aware of all the positive and negative thinks and communication going on between the teams.
This skill also helps me in identifying and analysing the biasness if any going on within the
business. Ultimately, the critical thinking also helps me in improving my problem solving
skills which are always part of the projects (Warsah, Morganna and Uyun, 2021). Without
problem, there is no project which can completed by the manager and team. So, thinking
critically about any situation not only helps me in problem solving but also in risk
management associated with the projects.
CONCLUSION
By summing up above report, it has been concluded that by complying all the project
management planning stages, manager can meet the defined aim of a project. This stages
includes initiation to closing in which all the key elements of the project included in order to
meet the defined aim. Further, it has been concluded that PID is designed at initial level in

defined by the project managers that determine whether the project needs more improvement
in future when the same has been performed. Also, the reflection is also performed which
clearly reflected that strength and weakness of entire project.
