INTRPODUCTION Project management is a complete process of managing the whole project. This report is based on managing the whole project. In assessment 1 stages like investigate the project, project management plan and critical analysis of each stage involve with the project management plan will be discussed. Furthermore, in assessment 2 critical success factor learnt in order to implement the whole project will be discussed. What is the lesson learnt while managing the whole project will also discuss in this part of project. Necessary recommendations will also provide to improve the project outcome. ASSESSMENT 1 Project Initiation Document (PID) PID is the document in which the project is clearly laying out in the justification for a project where all the key elements of the project included (Walker, 2015). This also provide a brief overview ofall the essential elements which will going to be cover in the chosen project. For Salisbury House, the PID will be as mentioned below: PurposeThe purpose of the project is to create a new and additional teaching facilities for increasing number of students so that they can enjoy the teaching. BackgroundUniversity of Wales Trinty Saint David wants to acquire new building block known as Salisbury House. Through this, campus wants to create an additional teaching facilities to their students so that they can improve their learning.As the staff members of the university keep increasing and there is a need to provide enough facilities to them as well. For that, there is a need to provide effective facilities which assists to attract range
of new customers and staff members. ObjectivesThe main objectives of developing this project are as mentioned below: To provide best facilities to the staff members and students so that they can be easily attracted. Campus provide extra facilities to their member so that they can improve the business performance and staff members can easily offer the best facilities to their members. To improve the brand image of the campus by offering best variety of services which help to stay competitive in market. All the relevant stakeholders also keep attending the meeting and this in turn causes positive impact because it assist to generate better outcome. I have also learnt that in order to support my team, I have to delegate tasks to the members appropriately such as delegation of task of designing classroom, reception space etc. During the project, one of my team member face difficulty in setting the budget of the project and I scolded badly on this to them. The impact of which they stop talking with me
which has started affecting Salisbury project. It is because the other team members unable to complete the activities in the pre-defined budget which has result into the over budget project. So, from this incidence I have learnt that beside scolding badly my team member on their mistakes, I need to calmly talk with them and ask them about the issues they are facing (Jayasinghe, 2021). It is because it keeps them motivate towards the work even after any mistake and they will also take resolution that they will never repeat such mistake in future. This helps me to learn that great things don’t come in easy way but it requires lots of hard work and patience. The lesson learnt document is all about the experience a team and managers earn from each completed projects. This is best for increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of future project teams and managers. Communicate clearly and provide appraisal to team members is one of the best lesson I have learnt from this Salisbury House project. Beside this, the another lesson I have learnt risk management is the key to success of any project (Mbunda and Kapinga, 2021). I have learnt that if I really wants to manage my whole project and make sure that it will be delivered to client on time. Then, I have to identify the risks which can affect my projects and what possible risk management responses I can take. This helps me in managing and improving the cost, quality, safety and operation of the project of Salisbury House.Thelessonlearntdocumenthelpstheprojectmanagerandteamtoimprove performance and productivity of project. Recommendation It is to be suggested to the project manager to select the best team members for the project who can easily manage the work and meet the defined aim of a project, Also, the project manager should consider best communication plan to the members so that each team member can generate a better outcome and also share the important communication to their members as well (Andrei and et.al., 2019). Further, it is also suggested that in future when the same project will be applied then different project management methodology will be used i.e. Prince2 methodology which help to meet the defined aim. Moreover, proper and effective tracking system needs to be used by the project manager so that effective outcome can be generated. In this, project manager can determine whether the team members are lack behind so that effective outcome can be generated.
Apart from this, it is also suggested to the project manager to improve the weakness as describe under the reflection section so that effective outcome can be generated in future when the same project will be conducted. This in turn assist to generate a better outcome and also meet the defined aim of a project in an effective manner. Also, it has been analysed that different advance technology needs to be used by the project manager in order to smoothen the project and meet the defined aim within a set goal. Along with this, it can be also stated that for tracking the performance of all team members, there is a need to use benchmarking tool so that it help to generate a better outcome. Effective risk management plan needs to be managed by the project manager which help to meet the defined aim and this in turn also causes positive impact over the result (Ajam, 2018). Reflective Report In this project which is known as Salisbury House project, there was an initiative took by The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) in which they acquire a new block of building which is located in the same location that is, Kennington Park where there main building is located. The purpose of such acquisition was to expand the current educational facility in order to fulfil the increasing number of students admissions and educational demand in this region. The project was managed by performing through the five stages of project management which begins with project initiation, then project planning, execution, monitoring and controlling and ends at project closer stage. In the beginning at initiation stage, the goals and objectives were set for which the educational expansion project has been undertaken, blue print has been developed to highlight how additional teaching facility will lead to better image of the university and improvement in offering education. Negotiation and conflict resolution skill: Project manager must be capable for helping team members in resolving their conflicts (Said and et.al., 2020). In this way, success probability can be enhanced. Interpersonal skills: These skills are necessary for communicating and building better relationships with team members which is also known as people skills. Communication skills: For project manager, effective communication skills are a key to success without which they unable to manage and complete any project in best manner and on time. Thus, I need to develop strong communication skills in myself with the help of which I can able to negotiate with the internal and external parties of the project. I am also able to motivate and encourage my team towards the project and how they can do their best in order to complete their assigned task on time. It is because during the SH project, I have found that I am unable
to understand my teams issue which make them uncomfortable to talk with me. In order to perform variety of role and responsibilities along with coordinating with the client, staffs and other members. The communication skills will also help me in managing and looking out that important goals and milestones of project can’t get missed (Karasheva, and et.al., 2021). Time management skills: Another skill which I have to develop in myself in order to became a successful project manager is time management skills. It is because being a project manager, I have to effectively plan and manage the work time of my as well as my team members. This skill helps me in scheduling the time required to complete each task of project and which task require much time or how I can manage it. The list of important and urgent task is need to be identified by me in order to schedule them with do first. Again, time management skills help me in identifying the tasks which are important but not urgent which we should do later. Now, with the not important but urgent activities I can delegate such tasks and last with not important and urgent tasks I can skip them. It means time management helps me in completing the projects on pre-defined time. Critical thinking skills: This is a skill which helps me in managing & completing each and every project on time and with the achievement of all aims and objectives. In this skills, what I need to do is first enhance my observation power. With the help of observation, I am able to keep myself aware of all the positive and negative thinks and communication going on between the teams. This skill also helps me in identifying and analysing the biasness if any going on within the business. Ultimately, the critical thinking also helps me in improving my problem solving skills which are always part of the projects (Warsah, Morganna and Uyun, 2021). Without problem, there is no project which can completed by the manager and team. So, thinking criticallyabout any situation not only helpsme in problem solving but also in risk management associated with the projects. CONCLUSION By summing up above report, it has been concluded that by complying all the project management planning stages, manager can meet the defined aim of a project.
