Personal development refers through the process which has been undertaken by an individual for
their development of skills (Batih and Sorapipatana, 2016). It is essential for an individual to
involve in a process of their personal as well as professional skills development as it will help
them to achieve their goals and objectives for their career. In order to develop an individual it is
required that they've design a personal and professional development plan for them so that they
can identify the time period they will take to develop themselves. Development plan is a lengthy
process and required proper goal for an individual that they want to achieve in their life. In order
to set a goal it is essential for an individual to understand the value of three type of goals that are
short term goals long term goals and medium term goal. This report is going to explain about the
development of a personal and professional development plan and it’s important in the life of an
individual. In order to prepare this planet is required for an individual to develop their long-term
goal which will help them to bifurcate them in short term goals and medium term goals to
achieve their long-term goal in easy manner. This process will help them to achieve their career
goals and growth. This report also contains example of all these goals in order to achieve the
growth of personal and professional career of an individual.

The concept of personal and professional development
Personal development nonstop or constant process which requires an individual to analyze their
qualities and skills which are required for them to achieve their desired goals. On the basis of the
evaluation of skills required to achieve the goal the individual then required to analyze the skills
they are already expertise in so that taken for their work to develop their other skills required for
that goal so that they can personally develop themselves to achieve this goal. Whereas
professional development is a process which include achievement of professional skills so that
an individual can be able to give their best in their professional career. In order to identify the
difference between personal developments of professional development is that the personal
development is a continuous process and is carried by an individual for their only development.
But in case of professional development generally this process is carried out by organization for
their employees so that they can develop their professional skills and provide their best skills for
the productivity of the organization (Cooper, and Sommer, 2016). Development of professional

skills also helps an organization to motivate their employees as it helps the employees to fulfill
their self-actualization needs from an organization. No matter and individual wants to develop
their personal skills or professional skills they are required to prepare a proper and appropriate
plan which will help them to analyze the actions they need to take for their development. But
before developing a personal as well as professional development plan individual is required to
understand the concept of goals to be set by them. In order to set goals for life of an individual
they are required to formulate three types of goals that are short term goal and long term goal as
well as medium term goals. All the three goals have their own value and have their importance in
their development plan. The meaning and value of all these type of goals in development plan by
provided below:
Value of short-term goals identifying 3 personal short term goals
Short term goals are the goals which are fixed by an individual for a shorter period of time. This
type of goals are generally are formulated for a time period of three to five months. When an
individual decide their long-term goals it is essential for them to diversify them in a smaller parts
so that they can be achieved in successful manner. Short term goals are very essential for
individual to keep themselves motivated and confident for their life so that they can be ready to
face various challenges of life as well as workplace. When an individual achieve their short-term
goal then they are motivated to try another goal and became ready to accept another challenge of
their life. This is step by step process helps an individual to gain several skills and achieve
success and growth in their career (Sanghi, 2016). If short term goals of an individual are lacking
then it also develop lack of clear vision for them in order to achieve their long-term goals for
their career. Three examples of short term goals are given below:

Value of Medium-term goals identifying 3 personal Medium-term goals
Medium term goals are the bones which are formulated by an individual for longer than a short
term goal but shorter than a long term goal. This type of goals are generally formulated for a
