Innovation in Letter Box: SCAMPER Technique

This assignment describes the technique of SCAMPER in the innovation idea of developing letterboxes. It discusses the different techniques of SCAMPER and suggests ways to improve letterboxes using each technique. The assignment also explores the idea of combining letter boxes with digital locks and adapting them into security camera systems. It concludes with a recommendation to focus on modifying/minifying/magnifying the letter box to accommodate larger parcels.

Overview
The main aim of this assignment is to describe the technique of SCAMPER in the innovation
idea in order to develop design of letterboxes. With the help of latest technology, people use
various online sites for shopping for which it is essential to have huge space outside the home to
keep them safely (Hussain and Carignan, 2016). The discussion will be made on such points by
taking consideration of SCAMPER in which each letter of it will be used for this. This paper is
categorized into two sections in which first part will describe the technique of SCAMPER and
another part will choose one of these techniques with expanded plan.
Part A
SCAMPER was formulated to help in lighting the factor of creativity and handle the concerns
while brainstorming session. SCAMPER is a technique that consists 7 techniques that are
Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another usage, Eliminate and Reverse or Rearrange.
SCAMPER: Letterboxes
S- Substitute
The substitute for the letter box is mailing all the parcels and letters to the specific place and
informs their owners regarding this. The messages or parcels might include confidential
information, which should not be revealed to others. For this, the delivery person can ask the
owner either to deliver the parcel at their suitable time or asked to collect on their own. It is an
alternative way in which the delivery person takes permission from owner to keep their parcel at
their place according to their convenience (Chan, 2017). This substitute of the letter box is
entirely different which helps in keeping confidential data.
C – Combine
Combine is the process in which one can combine unrelated ideas to develop something new.
There can be combination of letter box with digital lock in which the owner of the parcel or letter
can set the password as per their suitability. It decreases the risk of losing confidential data to
other person (Surat, Faridayu, Kummin and Baharudin, 2018). With the adaption of the latest
technology, the combination of letter box with digital lock is helpful in increasing security in the
context of losing confidential data.
Or
It could also have the combination of different box in which first one could be for letters or other
one for parcel because the trend of online shopping is increased day by day. With the help of this
strategy, it would be helpful for the delivery person to categorize the letter and parcel
accordingly. There are so many things which is being ordered by the people to escape from

going anywhere but they want to keep them in secure manner (Sorensen, 2015). The combination
of Double section for keeping things will be helpful in storing right thing at right place from
which the owner can collect things as per categorization.
A – Adapt
Adapting the letter box into a security camera system as it is situated outside the house. For the
security purpose, there are many people around the world that prefer to set camera outside the
house so that they can capture the activity of delivery person for the security purpose. This will
be helpful in reducing the theft and corruption anymore. Tweaking and adopting them into a
single distinct will be useful and cover both aspect of keeping parcel safely and security purpose.
M - Modify/Minify/Magnify
In the current era, people go for online shopping instead of visiting grocery store or shopping
mall. It has become great requirement for every person to keep large space outside the home for
parcel that is ordered by them. The modification in the letter box by taking consideration of
larger space is necessary (Szepietowska and Zareba, 2016). Minifying a letter box and magnifying
the cupboard system to develop the large store for other purposes such as unused things,
gardening objects, food for birds and other things. The modification in the letter box can increase
the craze of people to keep letter box outside their house.
P - Put to another Use
True to be told, the letter box are phasing out with other kind of devices such as email and
messages, so that the information regarding delivery can reach up to exact time at the email
address of the owner. The messages must be recorded into verbal mode through which it become
easy for the delivery person to record the message outside the home. The information by the
delivery person can be conveyed to the owner through which they will get information regarding
what kind of delivery it is and from where it comes so that the owner collect on immediate basis
without missing.
E – Eliminate
Eliminate the lock in the letter box, because it is huge risk of losing the key which can lead the
owner into biggest risk to not get important information at right time. There can be biometric
system to open the letter box which would be helpful to get what they want at right time. It will
be helpful to secure the things in which one cannot take advantage of it by thieving the keys. It
can also be included with artificial intelligence where it will be smart enough to give preference.
R - Re-arrange
Restructure the sizes and rearrange the position of the letter box in a large manner and better
space with security, can be used in letter box in the context of keeping products and letter safely.

The door of the letter box is quite small which increase the demand of large space letter box with
digital lock. It can be put outside the home for the parcel that comes from online shopping sites.
The box should be fixed at their place so that one cannot move it or it can be hanged on the wall
so that the delivery person can put things in easy manner. With this strategy, the space for
keeping this box can be vacant at ground of the floor. With this, it will allow users to not stop
online shopping and get rid of fear of losing products and useful information due to lack of
security or space.
Part B
According to me, the technique of modifying/minifying/magnifying can be considered to bring
changes in the letter box as the demand of the large space for letter box is required due to online
shopping or large parcel. This can be brought out by focusing on making cupboard system with
different shelves in which the household things can be kept over there. As discussed in the
section of modifying technique that this cupboard can be used by house owner in different
purpose such as unused things, gardening objects, food for birds and other things. The structure
of the letter box can be made in an effective manner as it can be made with wood in which there
will be the system of slide through which the delivery person can insert the parcel and it will go
down in the letter box. As per my point of view, it is necessary for the owner to keep focus on
soft place inside the letter box, for which the soft form can be used so that the thing made up of
glass and sensitive thing cannot break down.
I feel that biometric system can also be included along with making large space for letter box for
the parcel. With the number of functions, it would be effective and useful compact letter box that
source of keeping parcel and letter in safe manner that develop an effective strategy to maintain
the letter box. The idea of making letter box by taking consideration of multiple draws as
cupboard is useful so that the owner uses it with different purpose. In my point of view, this
would be the most effective strategy with ever growing technology scene in our current country.
The letter box with large space can be useful for different purpose along with it is necessary for
the owner to keep focus on design as well as attractive with effective colour of paint will look
outstanding outside the home (del, de, Dunstan and Kaltner, 2017). There are so many people who
are looking forward to make their home good looking and letter or parcel box is also necessary
for the house in order to get letter safely at their place. The design of the letter box should be
effective as there can be sharp colour paint with name plate so that one can recognize the name
of the person for which the letter is being sent by sender. Along with effective design and paint
on the letter box can be categorized by painting different colour. As per my point of view, there
can be three sections in the letterbox which are separated from each other, one for letter, second
for big parcel and last for different purpose. The size of first box should be smaller in
comparison of second one through which the sender can put a big parcel on second section
effectively and the surface should be softer so that the thing cannot be broken out.

SCAMPER 5
Thus, one would have to develop the letter box to make it as an effective storage place. Hence,
the combination of biometric with large space of letter box can be more effective as it will be
helpful in keeping things safer and secured. The idea can be expanded by keeping camera above
the letter box as it would be helpful in getting information regarding who was the delivery person
so that the misuse of it cannot be occurred. With the help of this idea, the trend of letter box can
be increased among the people as it will be helpful for the delivery person to deliver things in an
appropriate manner. It happens so many times that the person for whom the parcel come is not
available. This brings issue for the delivery person to come again for delivering the thing. With
the help of such strategy, it would be helpful for them to provide the parcel at right place with
taking permission of the owner. The approval can be sent by the owner to the delivery person by
the message or mail so that the data of the delivery person can be maintained in their record.
