Through the following script I have tried to shed light on one of the most common
family dispute among the Australia households. For many couples who have children, the
process of telling their children about their decision to get divorced becomes the time of
sadness and dread. In Australian society, children with divorced parents are increasingly
becoming a norm as near about half of the marriages in Australia end in divorce. However,
for children, divorce can be a very hard time and also for parents, who love their children a
lot and do not want to hurt them in any way. I have tried to highlight the same through the
role play. I have elaborated on how Max Milla (the father) is unable to sleep as all his good
old memories with his wife Alexa Milla keeps on haunting him. They both have already
planned to divorce each other but due to some circumstances, none of them has yet told their
children about this. Max decides to talk to his children the very next morning itself. Both
Alexa and Max tried to convince their children (Claire and Thomson). Thomson and Claire
were deeply hurt and they left the dining place. Both Max and Alexa too were sad. Max was
just thinking about his old memories with Alexa and was wishing if Alexa could have never
changed the way he thinks she has. Suddenly Alexa entered the room and said Max that she
just want her children to be happy and she guess that their happiness lies in their
togetherness. Hence, they planned to quit their decision of divorce. The main aim of my work
is to let the viewer know that divorce or separation is not the ultimate solution. Sometimes,
parents should also consider the happiness of their children, the happiness of their beloved
before taking such decision. Also, they should think twice before taking such sort of
decisions and try to fix the things at first. There might be even more glorious solution of it
instead of getting detached from each other for the whole life. The main challenge that I
faced in developing the work was that of solving the issue. I was unable to decide whether to
make the end of the play separating the couple or make a resolution in between the two.
Finally, I decided that the second option would give a better moral to the viewer.
