SEA LIFE CONSERVATIONThe main ethos of Sea Life Centre towards conservation of the marine life is Breed,Rescue and Protect. They have their own established breeding program with better understandingof their species. Two of their well-known breeding programs include blacktip reef sharks, turtles, rays and penguins. They also provide nursing campaigns for the sick and injured marinecreatures like seals, porpoises and turtles (Sea Life 2017).Some of their projects in global protection of marine life, under the banner of Breed,Rescue and Protect include: Rescue and rehabilitation of wild and injured seals and orphan sealsRescue and rehabilitation of turtles in aquarium which cannot be returned to marine lifeCyanide free sea projects in order to prevent illegal practice of fishing of cyanideArtificial insemination of sharks (Brownbanded Bamboo Sharks)Rescue of grey nurse shark(Source: Sea Life 2017)I would like to propose the technology of genomics to the conservation of marine life.Genomics will help accessing the marine health status. It will be an effective and cost-effectivesolution for monitoring the marine environment and subsequently conserving the same viaaccessing the health status. Genomic technology will help in ascertaining the detailed taxonomicclassification (Bourlat et al. 2013). This technology will work in favor of The United NationsConvention on the Law of the Sea. This technology will also help to get rid of the bottle neck inaccessing the health of the marine organism using the prevailing marine monitoring needs.Proper taxonomic classification on the basis of genomic differentiation will help in speciesdistribution, estimation of population size, habitat distribution and condition and thus providingthe complete coverage towards biological diversity of marine life (Bourlat et al. 2013).
