The quality of the infant and parent attachment act
as a powerful predictor of the child’s social and the
emotional outcome in the child.
A normally developing child will develop an
attachment relationship with the caregiver who
provides regular physical or emotional support
(Holmes, 2014).
A secure attachment is important in the development
of the child as it makes them feel safe and provides
them with a sense of confidence and security.
The attachment response starts at about 6 months
and peaks between 12-24 months and by 36 months
the intensity of the attachment gradually decreases
(Holmes, 2014).
4 in 10 infants lack strong attachment with their
parents.

Theory- Attachment theory by Sir Richard
Bowlby
Bowlby’s evolutionary theory of attachment
suggests that children come to the world
pre-programmed to form attachment with
the others (Holmes, 2014).
Theory- Ainsworth attachment theory- He
worked on one of the paradigms in the
attachment theory, that is the security of the
attachment of a baby to an individual
(Bowlby & Ainsworth, 2013).
