SECURITY MANAGEMENT IN KOREAN PENINSULA
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
In the eyes of Frank (2013), the term “security” refers to the measures that are
undertaken in order to protect something or someone. National security or securing a country
or a region is regarded as the prime duty of the government of that particular region or
country. After the end of cold war, there have been multiple ethical issues and security
dilemmas, which have occurred due to the geo-political factors and due to greater influence
over the nation. The external powers focus on understanding their own interests and
preferences rather than using military power and being diplomatic. It has been exercised for
responding to the nuclear breakout at DPRK and to maintain a stable environment for people
to live properly in the future at the Peninsula.
Various political and economic factors in Korea are considered for integrating the
cultural and ecological landscapes to form an effective culture and maintain an ecological
security in a conflicted zone. The nuclear insecurity has brought major forms of terror and
hindered the sustainable security of the place. The emergence of nuclear threats and military
clashes for the two Koreas resulted in Cold War practices and the relationships between
Korea and other nations deteriorated, which created a negative impact on the management of
security at Korea. He decision of North Korea is to dispatch a person to South Korea as a part
of delegation for the Winter Olympics.
There are macroeconomic issues as well such as the lower rate of inflation and higher
rate of unemployment, which resulted in huge decline of foreign direct investments during
the last few years. The bilateral trade issues, lack of labour flexibility and transparency
further contributed to the violence in labour disputes and lower productivity for many
companies in Korea. The solutions are formulated to manage the trade issues along with
enabling better coordination among the Government agencies and businesses to deal with the

political forces. This will manage the bilateral trade relations properly as well as stabilise the
relationship between Korea and United States.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Why is it an issue?
It is a major issue because North Korea and South Korea have started a war between
themselves, which has caused huge destruction and even harmed the lives of many people. It
not only created a negative impact on the management of trade relations between the two
nations, but also has created discrepancies and political conflicts at Korean Peninsula. The
delegation led by the individual from North Korea can bring issues because of the improper
security management between the two Koreas.
Why is it an issue now?
It is considered as a major issue now, because with the emergence of political conflicts, the
trade relations have been hindered and the security has deteriorated. There have been issues
related to foreign direct investments, lower inflation rate and higher unemployment, which
creates lower productivity for the businesses and affected the economic growth negatively.
