Self-Reflection and Career Path: Understanding Personal Motivators_1

Self-reflection has a significant role to play in an individual’s life. This becomes even more
important while defining career paths. Through this course, I took several self-reflection
assessments that have helped me in gaining a deeper insight about my personality. I have also
understood my top three motivators. I am sure this knowledge would assist me in selecting an
appropriate career path.
My first motivator is being associated with a group. I agree with this analysis because I am
seldom enjoyed the solitude of loneliness. I really appreciate the presence of a group and the
support system that comes with it. Working in teams is a very important aspect of being in a
workplace (Fay et. al., 2015). I truly believe that working with other people will motivate me to
perform better. Working in teams also requires transparent communication (Russell & Reimer,
2016). I have always been an extrovert and prefer to talk upfront about any issues that I may be
facing. Therefore I would always try to build an environment of open communication within the
team.
My second motivator is knowing the future. I feel rather paranoid when I am unaware of what
the future might hold. I like to plan in advance and I prefer knowing what I might encounter.
However, I feel in the competitive workplace scenario that I will face, there are various factors
that impact the work life. In such circumstances it is impossible to know exactly what the future
will hold. Hence I need to work upon this quality and understand that uncertainty is a part of
workplace environment. Contingency planning is crucial for the success of any business. In order
to succeed in the workplace, employees must be prepared for any unforeseen situations.
My third motivator is making a real difference in life. I completely agree with this analysis and I
truly believe that I am largely motivated by efforts that make a difference in the society and
make the world the better place to live in. As a person I am not against profit focused
organizations but I believe that along with generating profits, organizations must also focus on
filling some need gaps in the society. Understanding consumer needs is important for the success
of any organization (Lemon & Verhoef, 2016). Therefore I will try to seek a career in the field
where I believe the society is becoming a better place.
