How Judaism provides adherents with a sense of belonging and identity
As per the article “Judaism: A Sense of Belonging” by Jackie Luffman, the characteristic as
specified and elaborated in this speech is Jewish people’s “belief and believers”1. The debate
below is concerning the belief system of the Jewish people and the way they perceive their
religion as well as how this belief assists with their sense of belonging and identity.
Judaism is a kind of covenant that was incorporated with the Children of Israel by God as per
their belief. It is surrounded with various kinds of texts, theological positions, various kinds
of organization as well as certain practices. These people have their own set of theories as
well as beliefs regarding god and religion. According to their belief, god is someone who
created the universe and each and every person following this religion has a way to connect
with god and have a personal as well as individual relationship with God. As per the belief
that Jewish people have, God works in its own way and they say that God has been a part of
the world and has been affecting and watching each and every individual.
Through this article one can conclude that the relationship that Jewish people have with god
is a kind of covenant relationship as in, the Jewish people have strong faith in the laws as
stated by God and they also tend to bring holiness in almost everything or every aspect they
talk about. As far as their teachings go, Jewish people are quite particular about the way they
behave in the world or the kind of ethical behaviour they display as it is their belief that they
have the duty as prescribed in their text or teachings that they need to present themselves as
humans with ethics inculcated in them. Jews in general have a very strong sense to be a part
of the community and also to keep everyone or every individual as a part of the community.
Even through their texts or holy literature and also the teachings one can easily figure out that
people who follow this religion talk about the whole community or a whole bunch of people

instead of just thinking or being selfish about everything. The above mentioned article also
states that, Jewish people bond with people easily and their life is all about family,
community and as such. These people have a characteristic according to which they have a
sense of belonging and they also preach the same to generations or at least they try to preach
the same thing.
In conclusion, it will not be wrong to state that the whole aspect that revolves around the
people who follow Judaism is of the warmth feeling people get around their people or being
good to individuals and regarding every one as their family or a part of their own community
this provides them the sense of belonging as well as identity. These people preach the value
of love and also help people or individuals surrounding them when in need2.
