INTRODUCTION
Business environment reflects the process of doing business and its impact socially,
politically and economically on individuals, groups and even nations. It also covers productivity
and profitability in businesses. In the 21st century, the concept of doing business is evolved and
transformed. Modern businesses are focusing on diversity and collaborative approach which
allows people from different background come together and give their contribution in an
organisations. On the other hand, the issues which associated with modern business environment
is management crisis. ,management crisis is the result of poor management which do not cope
with the current changes happened in the world, with the rise of technology and other
developments have changed the natural cycle of ecology which has created chaos and disruption
in the contemporary world(Ackers2019). These changes have affected the business empires
across the world which caused management crisis within the organisations. To improve and cope
with the current management crisis the organisations needs to update and bring effective
leadership style which can help in the resolving the management crisis. This report will suggest
the leadership style which is famously known as Shackleton leadership style with the view to
control the management disruptions and bring effective leadership to achieve business
objectives.
TASK
Leadership is the collection of personality skills which comes with great wisdom and
knowledge. Leadership skills enables person to cope with complex situations. In every sector
leadership is required to meet the challenges. In the same way in the business world leadership
plays very imperative role in elevating the entire business and its performance. Current
businesses now days focusing more on improving their leadership traits in cope with the
management issues(Bratby 2018 ).
There is a famous leadership theory called Shackleton leadership style which provides
affirmative ways to lead the team of employees with the purpose to make them work effectively
by infusing motivation and confidence in them. A good leader cultivates the sense of soldiery
and responsibility among his team members which helps in establishing healthy coordination
between leader and team members. Shackleton leadership style is an inspiration to many peoples

and shows interest in his leadership style. Shackleton was a explorer and researcher who always
engaged in his works. He was on a mission on the remote ice land in Antarctica along with his
crew. Shackleton was the leader of expedition and carrying a ship which froze in Antarctica.
Shackleton during his mission had led its team with courage and determination. Shackleton was
the first who dared to proceed ahead and led his crew for the mission(Murphy and Bratton2020).
Shackleton took the responsibility of his entire crew members and guide them the way to go
ahead with the mission. The confidence and courage of Shackleton showed how dedicated and
motivated was he towards the mission, even after the vessel stuck in the ice he managed to go
ahead with the plan and convinced his crew to carry on with the mission with the view to
complete it on time. The mission was indeed challenging and tough because the place where the
mission was to be conducted was remote and dangerous and the resources were limited with the
crew. Shackleton was well aware about the situation and he needed his crew to finish the
mission. He therefore, has to manage his crew members and lead them with courage and infuse
the motivation to inspire and go ahead with the challenges. Shackleton talked to his crew
members and made things clear about the expected challenges they might face on mission(Moore
and Brannen2018). He even welcomed suggestions and opinions from his crew about the
mission. Shackleton was a pure leader which ah s all the qualities which are required to become a
great leader. The crew also relied in him and his idea to go ahead with the mission despite the
ship was stuck. They with very limited resources begin with the mission and Shackleton was the
first who walked across the Antarctica. He was a great leader with dynamic personality who
stood at front and decided to lead his crew in difficult situations. This act of Shackleton proves
how strong and dedicated he was and his these traits and skills made him best from others. The
mission was successfully accomplished with the collective efforts under the leadership of
Shackleton. To become a strong and compelling leader one must have essential qualities of
leadership such as, confidence, dedication, communication skills, wisdom,knowledge, scientific
temperament, celerity of vision etc. all these traits collectively makes a good leader(Chkanikova
and Sroufe2021). Another, most important essential of leadership is communication, a leader
must maintain communication with his team and give them liberty to put forward their opinion
and suggestions relevant to the task or subject matter. A healthy and professional communication
is must between leader and team members to resolve many internal disputes and maintain
coordination in a team. Communication also improve team relations and reduce internal issues.

In the same way, contemporary businesses communities in the 21st century along with other
communities and nations need to apply the leadership cope with the management crisis in the
business world(Hook 2019).
The prevailing contemporary management crisis in the business sector which affects the
business and brings serious damage to the business performance due to poor management. For
example, a UK based multinational oil company which formally named as Royal Dutch Shell Plc
is a public limited company founded in 1907 whose headquarter situate in London, England. The
Royal Dutch Shell Company has a rich background as it is one of the super major oil and gas
company which operates throughout the world(Xie2019). The company is facing some internal
management issues which has resulted into poor management and lacking in maintaining the
coordination between different departments. It has been identified from the performance review
of the Riyal Dutch Company that employees of it are not giving best in their performance and
these has caused company in profitability. The leaders and managers of a company are not
effective in managing the business environment and internal disturbance is rising. To counter
this issue the top level management of Royal Dutch Shell Company requires to adopt some
strategies and business plan which can reduce the heat management.
Recommendations
The recommendations and suggestion which could help the Royal Dutch Shell Company
and its internal management issues by adopting leadership style of Shackleton. Royal Dutch
Shell company needs to replace its traditional management plan with the Shackleton leadership
style with the view to reduce management crisis prevailing in an organisation. Royal Dutch Shell
company needs to adopt the relevant measures and modifications which comply with the
prevailing situations and help in coping up with the problems of the management issues. Skilled
leader and trained employees needs to be employed(Nuseir2020). A leader should follow its
responsibilities and obligations to towards the company and employees. A leader should have the
wisdom to control the employees and manage the coordination between teams by maintaining
healthy communication. A good leader always avoid the conflicts and bring reasonable solutions
by interacting with employees. The proper application of Shackleton leadership style will bring
affirmative changes in the business environment and eliminates all the internal disputes like
strikes. Employees should give an opportunities and liberty to share their grievances and
problems by removing communication gaps. Royal Dutch Shell Company should maintain

vitality in an organisation and provide its employees updated technical skills which enables them
to perform their tasks smoothly. Effective leadership will enable the employees to work freely
and without any burden, a leader is always there to assist their employees and helps in increasing
their efficiency and skills. Therefore, the Royal Dutch Shell Company should consider its
internal issues seriously and take reasonable steps and measures to to counter the management
crisis while applying the Scackleton leadership style.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that leadership is very imperative in an
organisation, leadership enables leaders to cope with the unfavourable situations like internal
management issues, workers strike, etc. management crisis does no limit to an organisation, it
extends to individual and other communities exiting in the world. To counter the management
crisis a leadership style is recommended in this report based on Shackleton leadership style
which is worldwide recognised leadership strategies. To support this report a UK based company
“Royal Dutch Shell Plc” is illustrated in this report in context of management crisis and to
counter the crisis Shackleton leadership is recommended to the Royal Dutch Shell. At last this
report has covered all the relevant extract on contemporary management crisis and its impact on
the business communities.
