INTRODUCTION
Speaking in relation with the data analysis, it is one of the most crucial aspects because it
supports in analyzing the significant factors of the firm that possesses a lot of value in the
present market condition. the main aim of the current research report is to offer a detailed
examination of Shell, an international oil and gas company of UK with having expertise in
exploration, refining and marketing of oil, natural gas and chemicals. The report will focus on
the business processes of the company and will determine the key decisions being made in this
process. Further, it will also throw some light on the how the business process can be digital
transformed and will emphasize on the data management system. The final section will discuss
the opportunities for business intelligent tools and the manner in which they can support the
business.
TASK – 1 (THE COMPANY AND THE BUSINESS PROCESSES)
1.1 Business process map and flowchart
Shell specializes in the oil and gas sector and there are different activities being
performed by the company. However, for the current purpose the operations, servicing as well as
repair business processes is being taken into consideration. The company employs high level of
strategy in their operations and this has resulted in the growth of the UK’s oil and gas sector.
The company has a different department known as maintenance which conducts full variety of
containment vessel and water storage cleaning, maintenance and repair services (Mirvis, 2019).

There are different resources which are available to this department such as works
coping, general and dimension survey, project management, job pack preparation, procurement
planning, procurement of project materials, repair, cleaning and maintenance. The main aim of
this business process of the company is to offer higher value through leveraging the extensive
service and expertise abilities. The main mission of this department is making improvement,
extension and adding value to their services for the purpose of making sure continuous success
and evolution and at the same time fostering sustainability in the activities of the business by the
combination of social, health and safety and economic considerations (Glykas, 2013).
All these services are being offered by the department for making sure that the business
carries out its operations smoothly and effectively in the context of time and without any
damages and injuries. Other than this, the operations and the maintenance team also make sure
that the each and everything is in order and under power. Further, the department also makes
planning related to procurement and obtains materials from assortment of suppliers and firms
that specializes in manufacturing products being designed particularly for the oil and gas
industry operation and maintenance services (Liu and Heer, 2018).

1.2 Key business decision
There are variety of key decisions which are being taken in this process for the purpose
of maximizing the efficiency as well as usefulness of the firm such as tactical as well as strategic
decisions. Talking first in relation with the tactical decisions, they are generally short-term
decisions such as scheduling of maintenance activities, logistics planning, inventory planning
etc. On the other hand, strategic decisions have a longer-term influence on the operations and
growth of the company. Some of these decisions in the operation and maintenance business
process of Shell includes allocation of the capital, procurement of equipment related to cleaning,
repair and maintenance, maintaining the expenses in the maintenance budget, stocking of the
spare parts. Further, a strategic decision is being taken in relation with the health and safety of
the workers (Prat, 2019).
The operation and maintenance department of Shell focusses on the significance of the
healthy work practices and in this regard, they have developed certain established guidelines that
needs to be complied by each and every one on the basis of the situation. Further, the company
has also ban smoking in the premises of the company as it is related with the oil and gas sector,
further the walls of the offices are also piled up with pack papers. In addition to this, it has been

very competitive and dynamic in nature. However, two information systems such as sales and
human resource is being taken into consideration for running the business process that have been
analysed in task 1. Both sales along with human resource helps in adding value to the business
and also proves quite beneficial for augmenting and improving the total conditioning along with
positioning in the enduring time (Denić and et.al., 2015). Talking in relation with the sales
department, it is one of the most crucial factors as it supports in making improvement in the
performance of the company through augmenting the volume of output which the firm is
creating in the present sector. The management of the sales includes all the facets which are
closely connected with it such as quality, quantity of the merchandise and services which the
firm is creating in the marketing for maximizing the customer’s experience. This again supports
in augmenting the market value of the firm in the competitive working environment.
On the other hand, the human resource management system supports in getting a perfect
candidate for conducting the activities so that the capabilities and knowledge of that candidate

resource department supports the operations and maintenance business process of Shell by
providing right candidate and the right job, they can make use of Applicant tracking systems
(ATSs) which is a centralized database management system for managing all recruitment and
hiring efforts of the company (Chiu, Lin and Jou, 2019). In addition to this, for the purpose of
storing the information in regards with the sales and human resource, the company can also
make use of cloud computing which is being referred as the cloud database for data storage and
computing power.

data, analyzing it, etc. On the other, in my opinion there are certain limitations which is required
to be taken into the process which involves security issues and ethical considerations. In my
views a having application of these tools can hamper the security & privacy issue which include
poor access control for sensitive data, flaws with APIs, lack of the data source security, etc.
There is availability of the distinct business intelligence features which can impact the
functioning of firm which involves protecting data pipeline and setting up rules for controlling
information, etc. (Tavera Romero and et.al., 2021). It can be mentioned that shell as being the
one of the international organization can pay attention data masking, encrypting, AWS security,

required to be deal as in the policy, strategy and structure formulation on the basis of the

ability to coordinate with industrial rules and regulations. Business intelligence possesses the
significant features which ensure that effective cope up with requirement of organization by
ensuring favorable impact on the society can be implemented.

From the above report it can be concluded that data analysis is helpful in accomplishing
the organizational objective of higher profitability & stability by taking strategic decision. The
current study has given focus on having reliable key business decisions regarding allocation of
capital, procurement of equipment, etc. This study has given focus data management system
such as Applicant tracking systems, could computing, etc. that helps in taking the strategic
decision which support firm to have reliable procession. In addition to this, it has involved tools
of BI which comprises Microsoft power BI, looker, clear analytics, tableau, oracles, etc. that
