Introduction/purpose
Non-verbal communication including body language plays an integral part of providing
better health care along with conventional treatment procedures (Kourkouta and Papathanasiou,
2014). The health care professionals often face challenges in providing radiation even in adult
patients who have a proper knowledge of it. It is more difficult to treat a paediatric patient in this
scenario. Being a child , he/she is not at all attentive, very much anxious about getting the
treatment in a hospital set up as he/she is more familiar with their home environment. Moreover,
the child has mental illness.
Methodology
Considering the situation of the chid patient, it will be more useful to take the help of
non-verbal communication such as body language. The facial expression that will help to
convince the child to come out of his fear as it conveys emotions without saying a word. The
radiographer should maintain the eye contact and gestures to create a friendly behaviour with the
child that will provide comfort to him/her. The proximity is another factor that the radiographer
can maintain with the child so that the patient can feel relaxed with the new person (Lorié et al,
2017). Moreover another method can be applied that includes performing activities that is
supposed to be done by the child itself.
Results
The possible outcome was not significantly beneficial. However, the radiographer was
somewhat succesful in improving the situation. The child became friendly to some extent that
