Anger is defined as a powerful and strong emotion that originates due to feelings related
to frustration, disappointment and annoyance (Candelaria, Fedewa & Ahn, 2012). Hence, my
role as a facilitator would be to control the entire situation and implement silence as the most
effective strategy for his anger management.
My role as a facilitator requires me to help the members of the closed group to
understand that anger is an normal process of expressing emotions. I will work towards helping
Brian and the other members of the group recognize several triggers of anger and adopt definite
styles of handling anger. A certain incident made Brian annoyed contributed to certain actions
that made him regretful later on. I will help Brian understand the effectiveness of silence as an
anger management strategy and will also make him realize that it is best to walk out of a
particular place and spend some alone time. I will demonstrate a clear understanding of the need
to pause and reflect on the situation that occurred. This will facilitate gaining a deeper
understanding of the incident by reflecting on the events (Khan & Masud, 2017). My approach
would further help Brian and other group members identify the factors that made them angry. I
will focus on making them jot down all the factors that might result in eruption of anger. Anger
is often found to take a toll on the physical and mental health of individuals and compels all to
undertake unwanted actions (Taft, Creech & Kachadourian, 2012). Thus, I would demonstrate
effectiveness of silence as the major therapeutic intervention that will act as the mode of
communication without losing considerable energy in talking. Moreover, use of silence as an
effective therapeutic technique to manage anger and agitation would help in conveying empathy
and would facilitate reflection of incidents.
To conclude, as a facilitator I will focus on emphasizing on the use of silence, as a wise
choice to deal with frustration and distress. This will help Brian in gathering his thoughts and

gaining some objectivity. It will also challenge to become responsible, thereby assisting in
appropriate expression of feelings that does not lead to harm of any object of hurts other’s
emotions.
