Executive Summary
The purpose of the report is to throw light on the theory of social innovation in relation
with the theory of community engagement. As a social innovation concept, the study has chosen
refugee cleaning service which will have its location in Brisbane. The concept is to form a
cleaning service that will be exclusively staffed and run by the Syrian and Iraq refugees. The
whole course of the study shed light on different aspects. For instance, the paper opens the
discussion elaborating on the two theories, namely, the social innovation and community
engagement. While conducting the discussion, the paper gave special attention on showing how
both the theories are interconnected to each other. The main portion of the discussion provides
the elaboration of the social innovation concept which has been proposed. The paper further
conducted SWOT and PESTLE analysis upon the social innovation concept. In addition, the
whole course of the discussion also gives an account on the identification of significant
challenges which might create obstacles in the success of the social innovation concept. After the
whole analysis, the study also summarizes the entire discussion in a concluding paragraph.
Discussion of social innovation and community engagement theory
Moulaert (2013) provided suggestion in terms of name that the term social innovation
alludes to ideas, concepts and strategies that are new which has aim to fulfill a social need. The
new ideas and strategies are developed in terms of innovation with an aim of elevating the civic
society. Several aspects are included in the concept of social innovation such as open source
techniques and methods that are popularly known as the social procedure of innovation.
According to Cajaiaba-Santana, (2014), the primary intention of social innovation alludes to the

aspect of innovation which has a social purpose to fulfill. For example, community engagement
is such topic. As per Moulaert, MacCallumc and Hillier (2013), the pioneers of social innovation
is inclusive of the name of Mohammed Yunus, whose name has secured a place in history for
his foundation of Grameen Bank and establishment of the concept of microcredit with the aim of
providing support to the person who are responsible for the social innovations of over than one
developing country like Africa, Asia and Latin America
As social innovation have an aim of fulfilling a social purpose, people often get confused
as to whether the social work and social innovation refer to the same meaning or not. Therefore,
it is required to be explained that what distinguishes the concept of social innovation from the
concept of social work. While the concept of social innovation refers to the theory of inventing
idea or concept and the process as to how something new or innovative take place, the concept of
social work refers to the notion of some activities which aim to elevate the social status of
unprivileged people of the society. As opined by Grimm wt al. (2013), the idea of social
innovation means the trendy way of communication that gives efforts to make a sustainable
society. The entire concept of social innovation is diffused through specific associations.
However, the theory of social innovation never aims to generate profit even if it is diffused
organization.
In the meantime, Phillips et al. (2015) suggests that the concept of social innovation is
exclusive socially oriented in accordance with the Bureau of European Policy Advisors. Thus,
the concept refers to the skill through which an individual addresses the social needs that were
not possible to be comprehend. Geneerally, there are two particular types of social innovations.
While one category is regarding a wide range of social innovations have a purpose to improve
the societal condition of a group of people, the other characterization deals with the willingness
