This article explores the social and moral context of healthcare and how nurses can justify their actions using the four ethical principles in a given ethical dilemma. It analyzes a scenario where a nurse is faced with a dilemma of whether to disclose information about a poor prognosis to a patient or not. The four ethical principles of autonomy, justice, beneficence, and non-maleficence are discussed in relation to the scenario. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of adhering to the American Nurses Association code of ethics and the patients’ bill of rights when faced with ethical dilemmas.
