Social media is mainly defined as a collection of computer oriented technologies which
allows developing and sharing of data or promoting different ideas of career plans through
networks or its connecting devices (Perrin, 2015). The use of social network is increasing day by
day. The services provided by social networking can be accessed by all the users through
laptops, mobile phones or desktops. Social media which is used by the users for sharing
information or interaction with each other, can be accessed by the use of several websites like
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others. It is seen that there are several advantages and
disadvantages of using social media.
Social networking in education
Social networking is not only capable of assisting students but also in offering huge
opportunities for sharing information between the teachers and the administrators. With the help
of several websites teachers can improve the involvement of the students in education and
improvement in the technological ability. It also provides a great collaboration in the classroom
and also make good skills of communication. Social networking sites have a great impact for
growth of education for students in high school. Students can even learn about several important
skills like communication skills, technological skills and creativity. They can also be able to
share their creative work like poetries or films and even carry out the correct use of information
and technology. Due to the growth of the social networking sites, most of the educators are
seeing their potential for utilization in education as they may have the capability of endorsing
both collaboration as well as active learning.

There are other several advantages of the use of social media which involves connectivity
worldwide, sharing of common interest, real time sharing of information and advertising.
Social networking addiction
Social media addiction is basically a term which is used for referring to someone who is
seen to have been spending a lot of time on social media like Twitter, Facebook or some other
forms of social media. Hence, in this way it affects the daily life of a person to a great extent.
Though it is seen that there is no such official medical recognition on social networking
addiction as any disease, this inappropriate habit of using social media excessively has become a
topic of research as well as discussion. Social networking addiction leads to a number of
negative effects in which a person has an excessive utilization of social media. Some of the basic
symptoms of the addiction of social networking includes depression, anxiety and some
psychological disorders. Most of teenagers, students and even kids are getting into social media
to such a huge extent that they are being termed as addicted. This addiction is really a very bad
thing and can ruin the personal life any individual
There are several other disadvantages as well which involves cyberbullying, crimes against
children, risk of frauds, and wastage of time and ruin of reputation.
