The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is a widely used theory in the field of psychology that explains human behavior and decision-making processes. According to TPB, behavior is determined by three main constructs: attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. The theory suggests that people are more likely to engage in behaviors they have positive attitudes towards, those that are socially accepted, and those that they believe they can control. This essay concludes that the TPB is a valuable tool for enhancing participation in exercise and physical activity among older adults. Studies have shown that the various constructs of TPB completely explain the variance in intention for exercising among older adults, making it an effective theory for promoting healthy behaviors.
