Social Sustainability in Supply Chain Management - A Case Study of Timothy & Thomas

The case study discusses the issues faced by Timothy & Thomas due to excessive use of child labour in their factories. It emphasizes the importance of ethical and sustainable supply chains in the current business environment and how US-based enterprises have been successful in fulfilling their social responsibilities. The presentation recommends the implementation of social sustainability by large organizations in developed countries and effective outsourcing of labour. The success of Timothy & Thomas will depend on how they implement social sustainability in their operations.

The case study is mainly based on
the organization named Timothy &
Thomas which had its operations
all over the world. The major
issues that were faced by the
company in the operations are
mainly related to excessive use of
child labour in different factories
(Martha 1993).

DISCUSSION BASED ON SOCIAL
SUSTAINABILITY The development of ethical and
sustainable supply chains has
become highly important in the
current business environment in
the developed countries. The
global supply chains thereby need
to be developed in an effective
manner. The US based enterprises
have been successful in fulfilling
their ethical and social
responsibilities in an effective
manner (Longoni and Raffaella
2015).

RECOMMENDATION
Social sustainability needs to be implemented by the large organizations
in the developed countries. This will help the companies to operate in a
sustainable and profitable in the industry. Outsourcing of labour needs to
be performed in an effective manner as well. The operations of Timothy
and Thomas will thereby depend totally depend on the ways by which
the company implements social sustainability in the operations in an
effective manner.
