SOCIAL WORK SUPERVISION1
The aim of this paper is to conduct an exclusive study of the features of supervision
that a supervisor need to include in their supervision contact that a supervisor needs to flow in
order to execute their duty. As per the multicultural aspect of supervision is concerned it is
imperative to understand that multicultural aspect is intrinsic to every societal setup where
the supervision is implemented (Crockett & Hays, 2015). The features thus needs to be
discussed are as follows:
1. Supervisor should have a clear understanding of the multicultural aspect of the
domain where they are functioning. Sufficient awareness about multicultural
dimensions are aiding for them to execute their roles (Rousmaniere et al., 2017).
2. A person’s interpersonal identity, which includes racial, gender, sexual orientation,
cultural and ethnic identity should be safeguarded and respected by the supervisors
(Rousmaniere et al., 2017).
3. Socio political context of the person concerned should be taken care off as it forms an
understanding among the supervisors regarding the biases and prejudices faced by
their subjects in the socio political context (Rousmaniere et al., 2017).
4. It is important for the leaders to acknowledge the bias and the discrimination that
might be preceding their subjects in the socio cultural context. Prejudices needs to be
removed from the domain where the subjects are functioning in order to ensure a
removal of bias, at least from their area of functioning (Rousmaniere et al., 2017).
5. Cultural identity are intrinsically linked to the behavior of the person. Therefore, the
leader needs to consider these aspects with importance while dealing with their
subjects in order to ensure their competence in the environment (Rousmaniere et al.,
2017).
It is imperative for the supervisors to adhere to the above mentioned features in their domain
of functioning so that they can develop their competence to the multicultural environment.
