Analysis
In consideration of the post-structuralism on language power and culture, Bill Leek
cartoon is applied to represent real-life situations. The cartoon drawn in the newspaper portrays
an important message and facts covering real-life situations. The cartoon may seem funny,
disrespectful, disgusting and hurtful but pass sensitive messages politically and in social settings.
There are some theories applied to support the cartoon concept in real life situations. Social
work theory is applicable in this concept simply because it represents the reality of what is
happening in today life. The theory is linked with the practice of representation of what is
happening within the real-life society. The elders are not happy with the Bill Leak cartoon is
because they do not literally understand the message passed across. They should be taught on the
importance of this cartoon in the newspaper as it represents what is going on within their social,
political and cultural setting. Majorly, the cartoon is aimed at dealing with the political aspects
and moral responsibilities of the parents to their children. The language used in the cartoon
portrays the interactive communication between the political aspects with social morals. On the
contrary, the cartoon has portrayed the negative aspects of society. The language used in the
cartoon is not as per the standards of the community center. This is one of the reasons why the
elders are not happy with the bill leak cartoon.
In the exploration of the power concept and how the minority voices are lacking in the
depiction of the cartoon, political power is illustrated well by the use of the little boy on hand of
the police. The cartoon seems to be funny but the message depicted is very strong. For instance,
the aboriginal man holding the bottle of beer shows how the community parents are
irresponsible. The man is unable to identify his son held by the police officer. This is a good
illustration of the police powers in their daily duties. The elders seem to be unhappy with the
