Social Works with Groups
Introduction.
This group proposal is presented to the supervisor of the government funded services. The
proposed group would be part of the community awareness services organization and it
would seek to address the needs of individuals with disabilities and families that are
financially unstable who have become isolated and marginalised. The group would have to
see to it that these people are recognized in the community and that they receive full attention
and support from the government (Cohen & Avanzino, 2014). It would also make sure that
the members health services are at a maximum to reduce the health risks that they are
exposed to in their environments. Generally, the group’s main function would be to consider
the welfare of the financially unstable families create awareness on the sensitivity to the
needs of people who are physically and provide and better health care service and living
conditions for members (Dovidio, Pagotto & Hebl,2011).
Group mission Statement.
To cater for the general welfare of the physically disabled people and the financially unstable
families by seeking government support for them and providing better health care services
and awareness for this group of isolated people.
Group Vision statement.
To have members who are financially stable and can cater for the daily needs through
educating, seeking governmental and non- governmental support and to improve the social
status for the members (Hacikadiroglu & Canidemir, 2017).

Proposal.
Proposed name of the group: Nora Support Group
Proposed group type: Support group.
Purpose of the proposed group.
The main purpose of the proposed group would be upholding the needs of the people with
disability and financially unstable families (Van Brakel et al., 2012). This group of people
has become neglected and marginalised due to being very few in the society. However, they
have very sensitive needs that have gone unnoticed. This increases their sufferings. Among
the challenges they face is that of being insulted by fellow students in school. Besides, these
poor families are located in the drier parts of the region and therefore have to walk for longer
distances in search for water. The transport and general infrastructure in this area is very
poor, something that hinders most support services both from the governmental and non-
governmental organizations from reaching this place (Lurbe & Redon, 2016). Moreover,
there are very few health facilities located in the proximities of these people. This makes
them suffer in searching for better health services in distant places. Another problem is that
most of these people are not educated about their rights and therefore fail to profitably
socialise with the locals that is they are isolated. The above problems faced by the people
necessitates the formation of a support group that would make sure that at least some if not
all the challenges are addressed. The major role of the group would be creating awareness on
the sensitivity to the needs of people with disability. Other activities would involve educating
the registered members on proper health practices, carrying out merry go round exercises for
the benefit of the members, and constructing developmental projects that would address the
financial needs of the members. The leadership of the group would intervene on behalf of the

group to the government for various support services including food reliefs, construction of
clean water sources in the region and some more health facilities (Machielse, 2015).
Goals and expected outcomes
Short term goals,
Within one year after the formation of the proposed group, the group should have
accomplished the following.
Register more than 75% of the physically disabled people and the marginalised families as
members.
Mobilisation would start as soon as the group gets registered. This would be mainly done via
door to door invitations of individuals to join the group. Invitations would also be done
through placing several posters at strategic points urging the less privileged families to join
the group for their own benefit. Upon registration of the first few members, they would be
asked to act as ambassadors of the group and take the responsibility of bringing in other
members whom after joining would in turn be asked to also act as ambassadors and the cycle
continues. Availability of a large number of members would be beneficial to the group in
several ways. First with a large group, it would be easier to obtain support from eternal
sources such as from the government and non-governmental agencies (Oliver,Sapey, &
Thomas, 2012). With a large group, it also becomes easier to initiate several projects in the
region (Cohen & Avanzino, 2010). It would also make the merry go round activity very
successful due to the ability to raise huge sums of money from this large group (Mirza,
Tehseen & Kumar, 2012).
